RHCSA 8 Soft Link vs Hard Link. Linking means reflecting to the original file, In case of copy command updating is not possible after copying the file from the source to destination. In link updating is possible for both the files.

hi , I can able to create a softlink in user login but , i can not able to read file . if we are giving the ( cat softlink filename ) error no such file or directory. I am trying to open over GUI as well , getting the link is broken move it to trash. Please help me with this. I will share my error snap to your mail id.

i think softlink is not created properly. check using ls -ltr command whether link is created or not.

Hello Sir, i have tried to find those file whose having inode number is 10 Command - find / -inum 10 Result: 10 -r--r--r--. 1 root root 0 Mar 1 19:06 /sys/fs/selinux/policyvers ----> this is our regular file 10 drwxr-xr-x. 53 root root 0 Mar 1 20:25 /sys/class ----> this is our directory. How come directory having inode number 10 and regular file as well inode number 10 ??

even though they are in same directory that means in same partition.

Can you explain which scenario is useful to use soft link I red somewhere which is useful over two Linux systems is it right or wrong please clarify my doubt

Soft Links are useful case study is below. I have directory under /webdata is has around 10GB in size. Same directory i would like to publish as web content then you no need to copy entire data just create an symbolic link to /var/www/html/ path so /webdata will be available. This way you can also increase security.

you can only make the softlink from dir --> dir or file --> file you can't make file --> dir vise versa

hai sir i have an one doubt,once you deleted a original softlink it will delete the softlinkfile also.in this video there is still showing an softlinkfile.how it its happening.can u pls explain me....

Softlink is just like a shortcut in windows, When original file is deleted shortcut wont work.
