imo there really needs to be a way in the future to set these gestures to use 3 fingers instead of 4. not just because 3 finger gestures are more universal than 4 finger ones, but also because of accessibility concerns (e.g. if someone is missing a finger, using all their remaining fingers for a gesture may be uncomfortable)
@Ryan-ct3rv
@Ryan-ct3rv Год назад
Even as a fully abled (is that a word?) person I find 4 fingers uncomfortable, especially if you don't have a massive touchpad since you need to bunch your fingers together

Totally agree, I have all fingers but still find it hard for my pinky finger to reach the touchpad

An option would be nice because I absolutely hate three-finger gestures and prefer to use four fingers any day.

3-finger swipe to change workspaces has been my absolute STAPLE. 3-finger swipe up to bring up the overview(GNOME) was also really cool. Holy cow. I might never use KDE because I like my GNOME configuration a lot these days, but would really appreciate 1-to-1 gestures done right(or completely customizable)

For me the most important is the ability to use 3 fingers left/right for window switching (like Windows 10/11), 3 fingers up for maximize and 3 fingers down for minimize or unmaximize.

Just 1.5 year ago, I was desperately waiting for 1 to 1 gestures, and I can't believe that even though not configurable, we have gestures on GNOME and KDE, and hence I finally made the switch.

I really like the 1-to-1 gestures from KDE but there are some things missing. I haven't seen a gesture to switch applications. In windows or pop os, it is possible to do it with a three-finger swipe. I hope that KDE adds it one day. I would like to customize the gestures and layout of KDE as follows: - Three fingers swipe horizontally to bring up the application switcher and scroll on it. If you have windows for the same application grouped together you can swipe up or down to see the windows switcher for that application after the application switcher is open. You can still swipe left or right to go back to the application switcher and change the active application. If the windows for the applications are grouped together you should not group together the active window and the other windows for the active application. So that if you have evince with three open windows and on the background firefox you can change to the second window of evince by swiping just left and if you need the third window top or bottom . Otherwise, you would have to swipe right to switch to firefox, left to switch again to evince to open the second window, and then top or bottom to open the third. I tried to draw a graph of the swipes in the two options. The layout of the application or window switcher can be any and is independent of the swiping graph. | e3 | |e1 | e2 | f1 | instead of: | e3 | | e2 | | e1 | f1 | - Four fingers gestures to switch desktop. Four sides since KDE supports having multiple rows of desktops. - (View 1) Three fingers down to show all the open windows on the current desktop and search for open windows in all desktops like the four-finger pinch-in. - Three fingers up to open the desktop grid. There could be a small icon of a magnifier glass that you can press to switch to (View 1). If you write on your keyboard you also switch to (View 1) and search. - Remove the four-finger pinch-in gesture since it's not necessary or use it for something else. - Right now if you start four fingers swipe up or down and then swipe in the opposite direction you see the animation for the gesture going in the opposite direction. If you have completed the gesture and scroll in the opposite direction you expect the gesture to go in the opposite direction but nothing happens. You have to do the gesture in the original direction to see the animation in the opposite direction. It is confusing to explain and also to use. I would like to have it like when you have not completed the gesture. The gesture for the desktop switcher already does it. By doing it this way it would be more intuitive for me but it might not be for other users. There could be reasons to not have it this way or simply a lack of developers. I am honestly interested in your opinion of what problems could arise.

To me, KDE's touchpad support seems clunkier than Gnome's support. Like swiping up 3 (or 4? cmiiw) fingers to bring up overview and also swipe up to close the overview? Really? It feels awkward to pull such move. Also, you may want to consolidate the overview and virtual desktop switching into a single function just like Gnome. Because most of the time, people run apps and organize them in different virtual desktops at the same time. Right after that, people will start their productivity.

@MistaSmith

Every gesture should work on almost every app. Why doesn't it? You gesture, it sends an event, and apps implement the event handlers. For the app it doesn't matter if you executed the gesture with a key combination, some kind of mouse magic, a joystick, or a touchpad gesture.

I'm using kde and just installed touched and touche for gestures and it is working amazingly, you might want to give it a try. I was using screen edges/corners and annoying myself with accidental activation. Yes touche uses a GTK graphical user interface but I only need to use it to set up gestures and then not again so it doesn't bother me.

So... I've been having this stupid and annoying issue with my Plasma panel. There's a couple layers to this, so first of all I have to mention that I have a custom shell script that changes my wallpaper and Plasma shell theme for night and day... called Dynamic Theme. I also have two custom launchers on my panel, for Krunner and Overview, respectively. And last of all, I have modified versions of Breeze and Breeze-dark. The settings are all the same, save for accent color on window decorations. Icons are set to Breeze and Breeze-dark respectively, for themes Breeze Colorful and Breeze Colorful Dark. When my Dynamic Theme script sets the night theme, all icons everywhere are their correct variants. But, when Dynamic Theme sets the day theme, all icons, except the Overview get set correctly. For some reason it gets stuck in the light icon. I have the icon (in both light and dark folders) in breeze/actions/symbolic and symlinked the svg to all the different sizes, like the rest of the icons. I have no idea what's causing this issue, but it's been bothering me since 5.20! (which is when I added the custom launchers)

I was using libinput-gestures, but I was only partially happy with it. There were many issues with libinput gestures so I stopped it from loading and startup and installed touchegg and touche. It seems to be more reliable.
@Deinorius

What issues did you have? I'm using it right now and even though I didn't configure it myself it's working fine so far. I even have scrolling with inertia!
@michadybczak4862
@michadybczak4862 Год назад
@@Deinorius Scrolling is a different function, and inertia is built in and customizable nowadays. My main issue was that I installed touchegg and didn't have UI to configure it. I know I could edit conf file, but I wanted UI. Only later I noticed that there is also touche to install which adds UI. Since the names are so similar, initially when the documentation was saying touche I was reading touchegg and was frustrated that it doesn't work for me as supposed to. As far I can tell, it works way better than libinput-gestures, which was unreliable and gestures detection was very spotty. Touchegg just works as intended and that's great. Also, the ability to customize gestures in chosen apps is awesome! The only issue I noticed is that sometimes detection of amount of fingers stop working, so swipes also stop working (swipes become normal scrolling). I had the same issue on libinput-gestures, so this is a hardware issue. However, as long I don't do gestures one after another quickly (like during testing), this issue happens rarely.
@Deinorius
@Deinorius Год назад
@@michadybczak4862 Good to know. I only knew about libinput-gestures and because I just recently switched to wayland (again) I didn't have most gestures at all. I was confused that Nicco didn't even mention libinput-gestures (or I missed it). Guess I will change a few things.

I appreciate all the hard work that went into touchpad gestures, but I personally never used gestures: most of the time I work with the laptop either docked (so the laptop touchpad isn't very accessible anyway), gaming with a mouse (gaming with a touchpad is terrible), or reading/coding (for which 2 finger scrolling is all the touchpad gestures I need). The whole concept of using your keyboard, and then lifting your hand to rest it on the touchpad to do some gestures is so weird to me: if your fingers are already on the keys, then whatever you want to do, a keyboard shortcut is easier and faster.
