Tracked this tornado from Overbrook KS to Lawrence KS and on in to Booner Springs KS. It was rain wrapped the entire time and extremely difficult to see.
I live in Lawrence. My mom was at work when it happened, but she just so happens to be the MIC (Meteorologist In Charge, or for plebs the boss) of the National Weather Service Topeka office, so we got a warning from her early. So I spread the news through our neighborhood. I walked down the street with a megaphone telling people this, and I quote what I said here: "An advanced warning from a parent who works at the NWS tells me a tornado will form south of town in roughly 10 minutes. All residents of the city are urged take shelter immediately. Gather all pets and family members and take shelter now, and if the worst is to come, gather food and water for the rescue operation." Ten minutes later the sirens went, and our neighbors from across our street didn't have a basement so they came into ours. I live in the central part of the city so it totally missed us, but still, actions had to be taken just in case the worst was going to come. That was an eventful evening and I'm glad things didn't take a turn for the worst.
