Oh I love Nala! I thought she was a great character and rival for Simba as well as best friend. I can't quite agree with what they did with her in Lion King 2, though. Especially her eye color. She had like seafoam green in the first movie and then they changed it to like dark blue in the second one. Your models are expressive and creative. I'll never get over my love of this movie. 👍
It's really nice to see something like this come to light. Doesn't Disney have a huge vault full of archived animation like this? I can't even imagine the amount of scrapped/alternate animated shots they have there that have never been brought to the surface.
Damn Disney, I'd rather prefer them to re-release the classic animated back into the theater and I'll rewatch them everyday instead of remaking them into soulless CG cash grab.
@@metaknight1410 Osamu tezuka did too. his daughter or other family member found a bunch of furry transformation sketches in his desk. Like nowadays, they didn't want any onboard artists to have their 'illicit' art attached to sully their name and not look good at least until their job was done. so they took them and kept them hidden away only for those in the know... to know.
@Lady Wander I call bullcrap + it's still no excuse to shit on their own 2D past by making these horrible live action adoptations Animation allready has gotten so little respect and with this crap they only make it worse.
@@toongrowner1 horrible? Did you actually see the movies? They were really good. Aladdin tops them all imo. Ofcourse the originals were great but todays youth deserves something new from this era
thing is: it's supposed to be expressive! it's meant to be fun and fluid and get the character's personality across in a short span of time. meanwhile it seems like the full focus of the remake is to Look Super Realistic, not expressive.
Nicolle *lots and lots of studying Not everyone takes “years and years”, and also, the years or “practice” don’t matter much. You need to properly study. Drawing what you think a lion looks like without ever studying real lions (from photos, videos, other artists, etc.) you won’t get much closer, and yes, it WILL take “years and years” if you just “practice”. But studying a lot, will get you there both faster, and better.
Alina Nechiporenko split the difference and make it both? Since studying can only take you so far without applying what you learn. And speed in particular is something you gain with experience. So my final verdict is years of guided practice then! (also thanks!)
I like the way her ears moved as her head moved up and down. When I was in college I got to tour the Glendale studio during the production of Aladdin. They took us to a big room where there were hundreds of storyboards for the Lion King hanging on the walls.
Seeing this was beautiful. Fantastic piece of animation and i like how it had Nala try and speak sense into Simba. Making her just slightly more mature and sensible about dangers.
That is a amazing gift for your daughter 💙✨✨ Very precious and that is one of the first steps to creating a character for one of the most famous Disney movies in history 💙 That is definitely a piece of history
The fact that someone, not the original artist, took care of this for almost 30 years, only to return it to a relative of the original artist is simply amazing. I see the world still has some good people in it. I don't even take that good of care with my own old work. :(
That's so beautiful, I teared up. She has always been one of my favourite characters of all time; The Lion King (the real, better, original) came out when I was just two and I grew up with her character having the whole movie memorized before my teens. Thank you so very much for all your work. It is so sweet that you based her on your daughter!!!
I miss this way of making animation. Today I received the Andymation's Flipbook Kit and I cannot wait to make my own stories, and see the magic. A bunch of drawings put together and seeing the characters come to life. It's just amazing.
I just want to say how thankful I am that your sharing your beautifull artwork to us. Your work reminds me why I fell in love with animation in the first place, and keeps me hanging on to the dream of becoming an artist. Your art is filled with so much soul and humanity that it reminds me that such things still exist. Thank you.
This something that's an absolute gem and I'm happy that your daughter received as a gift. I do like this design of Nala. It gives her a more teenage look in design like a transition from cub to lioness. I love this and your work in The Lion King which inspires me to become an animator.
Dear God I can't imagine how awesome it must feel to have taken part in creating a character for one of the best Disney movies out there! I bet your daughter feels awesome too to be the inspiration for a real Disney character. 😭 Honestly everything about this is just so cool. Your an incredible animator man! ♥️
I watched The Lion King so much as a kid that I knew the movie word for word. It's pretty cool seeing original sketches like this still in that good of shape after all these years. Pretty neat that they found their way back to you and your daughter after all these years as well.
This is so amazing and nostalgic! 😭 The Lion King was my ultimate favorite disney movie and it still is. I have grown up appreciating animation and it’s crazy to see something like this even at 27 years old. You have inspired me to create and dive into animation.
After seeing the live action version of the movie you can see how great these drawings really are. The character comes through so much more in these drawings than the whole of the remake.
I am going to dedicate my whole life to animation and drawing. this video just makes me so hyped up for the future :D one day, I would be animating films for you all
I wish disney would draw at least one of the new movies by hand again. The facial expressions of a hand drawn creature, is way much deeper and full of heart and soul. Any chance this will happen in the near future? Ps.: You did a great job! I love your animation of Nala.
Thank you so much for sharing this! I absolutely love seeing old concepts and animations for the lionking! Someone should do a proper animation of this because it looks great, it would be lovely to see in colors as a polished animation.
The Lion LìKing was my favourite movie for A LOT of time! I'm so happy to discover this precious little (not so little!) thing. Thank you to share with us this piace of Disney's movies history! :)
Omg 😮 That is super cool 😎 you’re such a legend what are your thoughts Aaron of the new Live action movie starring Beyoncé as Nala? Especially since the character was based off of your daughter?
Hey Aaron, I was at your stream today, I’m the fellow who asked you about your charcoals. But little did I know my mother was gonna surprise me with tickets to the new lion king movie! It was great and super cool to see the original!
It's amazing to have found your youtube account! It was because of artists like you that I wanted to go work for Disney when I grew up. Unfortunately I was dissuaded from pursuing animation because I believed 3D animation would replace hand drawn animation before I could graduate and my parents were super skittish about the whole idea. It's definitely a life choice I regret- even though I was right (to a point, I still could have become a story artist). I went back to school a few years ago for an architectural degree, but I still doodle in my spare time. I even do little animations here and there but I've never really developed my skill to a professional level. But hey! I still have time on this Earth, and I don't think anything could convince me to stop drawing so maybe one day I'll get to that level!
John Lasseter destroyed it. But we got good news, Jennifer Lee has taken over Walt Disney animation studios to bring Hand drawn animation back for future projects. Xxx
I'm a beginner for drawing. But i tried drawing Simba from Lion King. I don't know if people will like it or not, i just put on my channel. Nala is kind of unique too. I want to draw Nala next. 😍
I honestly really REALLY miss this style of animation. I mean, not that CGI is bad at all, it's pretty cool as well! I just know that I personally really enjoyed this style of Disney animation because of how much time was put into each frame to get it right... I've always enjoyed the classics most.
Out of curiosity did you know a guy called phil young? He was one of the animators for Mufasa ( I think even a lead? ). I took some of his classes in Oregon.
