A lion prowled the streets of an Italian seaside town for several hours after escaping from a local circus, before being sedated and captured.

Alessandro Grando, the mayor of Ladispoli, near Rome, had told residents to stay at home on Saturday while police and circus staff sought to catch the animal. In a Facebook post at around 10.30pm local time (9.30pm GMT), more than five hours after his original message raising the alarm, Grando said the lion had been “sedated and captured”.

I dont blame the poor baby escaping the circus. Some are mean to these beautiful animals. Please help him, but release him to the wild or a rescue sanctuary.

I'm torn. He did nothing wrong. He wanted freedom to roam and be back in Africa. Instead, he's in a seaside town in Italy. He was probably super confused. I'm glad that he was able to be sedated and returned. But I pity that poor animal being locked up and gawked at, again, by thousands of people. I hate zoos for the same reason.

"Do not build a Prison for yourself with the opinion of others toward your life." The lion is a prime example of it, he escaped captivity and is mascot for motivation and resilience and this video proves it.

Aww, at least he had a brief taste of freedom. Didn't know what to do with it though. I wonder if he would have reacted in the same way if he had escaped into a more rural area or, at least, a public park. I would have just left him, but he probably can't fend for himself. It's a pity there are still circuses that are allowed to keep animals.

Hippos escaped in hutto Texas i think in the 1930s..anyway ...the town now embraces it with concret hippos everyplace...its crazy..from the school mascots to every store and most houses having a statue
