This has led to a decline of creative players. This means defenders today face less actual unpredictability than in Maradonas time. This means it's easier for a defender today to get bamboozled by a player like Messi, who is around Maradonas level. If Maradona were around today, at his peak, he too would have all the same stats if not better. He also would have had less injuries, better fitness and most certainly not in the 80's culture of cocaine partying, which was stamped out of sport. Without a doubt the greatest ever, there is no statistic you can quote that he cannot match or better, there have been some magnificent players who have matched him over a couple of years, but NO one has got close to his body of work. Anyone who has played football at any level if they are unbiased cannot seriously deny the facts, plus it is the sheer joy he gives everyone who loves the game when he does some of the unbelievable and magical things he has done or does.
