colors can all be verified through the RR archives, there were formulas used , and yes they really know what those colors are, Also remember the prototypes were not painted in flat paint. period enamel paint is gloss,
Thank you for posting this, and as I have read below, I too have not purchased anything from Lionel since the great NYC E8 color debacle of 2017. What really gets me upset is we offered to help and ensure that the colors would be accurate for that set, and were dismissed. Thank you for being another voice in the fight for accuracy.
611 stripe issue was an example as well. Reviewers who don’t recognize the issues enable the problem. Too much money for something that’s not close to being correct.
You what’s also the problem is? The other RU-vidr’s with a lot of subscribers are giving Lionel as pass for screwing us. They know who they are. I preordered the VL Triplex hoping that they match the MTH color of the Triplex and not the Erie camelback and the Russian Decapod because I will return it like I did with the camelback. And yes I am truly afraid. The so called RU-vidr’s mention the color disparity but also gives Lionel a pass in their videos. Thank you for calling Lionel out.
Thanks for this video. This is exactly why I don't buy Lionel anymore. The D&RGW engines look toy- like! The flat black has the same effect, looks fake.
We give way to much tolerance to Lionel and its continued use of whatever's left in a can of Krylon. What are these overpriced shells but a foundation for paint. All we can do is never pre-order and see if the end result is palatable. Oh... and no need for any of us to kiss the mother-ships ass; this would be inexcusable in any other product, let alone one fetching four-figures.
Appreciate your thoughts and courage. I’ve now purchased my last Lionel, between the paint, lack of parts if 2-3 years old and the prices! MPC was hammered for putting different colored paint on the same pig now we recycle the same models every 3-5 years or so and the paint is just wrong usually flat. Let’s have s look at that Chinese factory, maybe a tour like LCCA of last year. Really, these products would cost 5M and greater to be made in the USA? It’s all so outrageous! Anyway enjoyed your examples and the many others provided in the comments. Sooner or later the Lionel faithful will somehow defend these issues and Lionel’s misrepresentations of their products.
I think you went easy on Lionel You think for the price they charge they could do better I was talking to a you tuber at a train show and he said Lionel has really fallen off in quality since 2015
First thing comes to mind...their Pennsy L1. Despite the gearbox problems(what a headache. There's a "fix" available from Norm's Trains because Lionel apparently doesn't know or understand how to fix their own mechanical problems). The green is way too green. Almost army green. They did fix the problem with the I1 decapod thankfully. It's definitely more accurate. But why?? Don't they send the factory paint samples to match? Are they using different factories than what they used to? Stick with a certain color and make it the standard for all other Pennsy locomotives.
@williamkolina3988 yep. He also had some 3D printer shim documents he uploaded to the O Gauge Forum. I sent them to a guy who has a 3D printer and got several sets made. Installed a shim on the motor mount, and it seemed to fix the problem. I then got an I1 Decapod later, and all the issues seem to be resolved on those units.
