It all started in Florida in the 1980s, when exotic fish enthusiasts released their lionfish into the ocean. Within just ten years, these fish had spread at an alarming rate, becoming one of the planet's worst invasive species.
In its native waters, the lionfish is just another predator, but in the Atlantic, it has no rivals. It devours everything in its path-from young fish to shrimp and lobster larvae, even other predators before they grow large enough to defend themselves. Now, multiple research teams are racing to study and combat this deadly invader.
