LIRR HD 60fps: 4 Hours of Main Line Action @ Mineola w/ M7s, DE30ACs, DM30ACs, C3s, & M3s (8/26/16)

All mainline action shot late morning / early afternoon from 8:45 am to 12:55 pm. Consists of a mixture of local and express trains, with all types of equipment (M7s, M3s, DE30ACs, DM30ACs, C3 Bilevels), including a pair of CP moves with EMD MP15ACs 168 & 160. Even a short GP38-2 + PR20B powered freight operated by New York & Atlantic Railway manages to sneak into the action. Plenty of great horn action can be heard thanks to the adjacent grade crossing on the east end of the station. In conclusion, I like this station better than New Hyde Park ( • Long Island Rail Road ... ). Enjoy the action =)

That's actually the grinded rail. Every train through the station makes that sound and will continue to do so until the rail wears down.

I really like the dm30ac when I used to live in ny and when I go back I always love riding that one because it has a really comfy orange ride and cushy seats also I like how it’s a double decker because sitting on top always gets you great views

That is a nice station. Those EMUs like at 5:50 sound rather like a German ICE3 when they're stopping & starting. If a bit slower, probably.

That EMU would be an M7, a common site all over Long Island. I've been on the ICE3 as well. I love the sounds that both of them make.

How come the Diesel engines don’t use the third rail when they’re on third rail territory? I thought they were able to switch from electric to diesel?

I believe it's because either they're limited to a certain speed when running under DC power or that they'd use too much electricity.

What's the difference between a de30ac and a dm30ac?

I believe the DM30AC can run on third rail as well as diesel, to allow it to use Penn Station.

DE30ACs are diesel only so they cant go in NY Penn station. DM30ACs are dual mode which means they can run in diesel and electric mode. They run on third rail when in NYP. How to know which is which is by looking at the numbers. Engines with 400 are DE30ACs, Engines with 500 are DM30ACs
