The Travis Etienne hype train never got the chance to get fully rolling in 2021 because of a pre-season Lisfranc injury, much to the disappointment of anyone who enjoys quality football.
What was this injury that made him miss a whole season though? A little break or sprain in a small part of his foot? Liz- who now?
In today's video, I'll be investigating why an injury to such a small area of the foot requires surgery, and why it takes so long to recover from. Let's dive into the unfortunate world of Lisfranc injuries!
Chapters:
0:00 - Intro
0:46 - What does Lisfranc even mean?
2:35 - Why does it matter?
3:35 - Lisfranc surgery
4:41 - Lisfranc rehab
6:51 - Thank you!
New videos go up on Mondays, so if you're new around here click the link to subscribe to the channel and turn on notifications so you don't miss anything new!

So why watch A Physio Named Jonah?
For free videos about the human body, injuries, rehabilitation, the world of Physiotherapy, and whatever other shenanigans comes along. Maybe you can learn something new and not feel like you're stuck in a classroom waiting for the bell to ring.
A Physio Named Jonah is a channel created by, well, exactly who you think. The channel features primarily Physiotherapy based topics, or things that it would make sense for a Physical Therapist to weigh in on. The goal is to make these often sterile topics interesting and easily accessible to anyone with a few laughs (or forced exhales from your nose if you're alone) along the way.
Jonah is a Canadian Physiotherapist who works with a primarily outpatient orthopaedic population at a clinic in Sudbury, Ontario. He completed his Master's of Physical Therapy at the University of Toronto, with his Bachelors of Sciences specialized in Human Kinetics coming from The University of Ottawa. He is also considered by his parents, girlfriend and dog to be a pretty cool guy.

Thanks Jonah. I'm 19 and a middle distance runner who just had surgery for a lisfranc rupture. This helps a lot, hope to get back

Hey Thomas, sorry to hear :( hope the recovery process goes nice and smoothly and you're back out there as soon as possible! Glad the video was able to help out in the meantime.

A lisfranc recovery is even worse when someone else was completely responsible for the accident and you're left to deal with all the consequences by yourself

Hey Liam, there a ton of factors that influence an injury beyond just the bones or tissues that are damaged. These can definitely make it a lot harder to work through. I hope that despite this, you can work with your healthcare team and the supports in your life to make it through your injury!

It's a really tough injury to deal with, sorry you had to go through that! The amount of swelling and bruising that can happen are really shocking, and they're even more noticeable because it's in a small part of the body like the foot.

Will an mri reveal a lisfranc injury?
@aphysionamedjonah

Good question! It definitely will. MRI is a really detailed form of diagnostic imaging that would show us if a lisfranc injury was present.

Oof, yeah never had it happen to me before, but I definitely wish it upon nobody. Really unfortunate recovery process and pain presentation!
