Have you recently been diagnosed with high blood pressure? Do you have diabetic nephropathy or other kidney disease? Has your doctor recommended taking Lisinopril or other ace inhibitors as part of your treatment? Learn about the most common side effects as well as the more rare ones that you should watch out for. Starting a new medication can be scary so be informed.
Medication is not the only way that you should treat your high blood pressure. Many times through lifestyle changes like diet and exercise as well as managing your stress you can make a big impact on controlling it. For some simple steps you can start with in your diet watch my video on how to approach weight loss:
• How To Lose Weight: 6 ...
Monitoring your blood pressure at home is a critical element to keeping your blood pressure under control. When it's high you typically don't have symptoms and oftentimes when you come see me you get nervous and your blood pressure goes up. It's very helpful if you are taking it on a regular basis at home so we can tell if we need to make some adjustments. Here are a few options in blood pressure monitors that can help you with this:

Thank you for this straightforward video. I've recently been diagnosed with high bp and have been prescribed lisinopril. Your video helped calm some of my concerns. My doctor was good at explaining these same things, but I always prefer hearing from multiple professionals.

Great video and advice, and much easier that reading the fine print on the bottle or handout you get from the pharmacy! I was almost in the same scenario as your patient, except younger. I was 40 when I went to the dentist and they would not work on me because of my high BP. Over time, I made the lifestyle changes, and now I am 50 and much healthier and on the lowest dosage possible. I am still glad I went on Lisinopril because it prevented a lot of damage to my body while I was trying to implement the lifestyle changes. I should that I have a long family history of heart disease and heart attack, and my brother had a stroke at the age of 46. I have seen how heart disease can impact your life.

Lisinopril within 6 months started to make me fall. I was into the emergency office twice after falling in the shower. The doctor I talked to after the second fall told me only 1% of people fall from the medication but did not recommend that I get off of it. I still do not trust doctors.

Information given here by Dr. Richardson is immensely significant for hypertension (high blood pressure) patinets. However, listening to Dr. Richardson was something that those with high blood pressure get glued with the exception of totally unnecessary loud musical background that didn't do any good but distracted and distrubed the viewer. I know whoever produced this video tried to impress Dr. Richardson to milk him with more production cost. But in reality, it must be taken out in order for the information given here about Lisinopril! Thank you Dr. Richardson for the valuable and simple information. God bless!

I get plenty of exercise. Im up in age. I look at least twenty years younger and feel great so I was interested in hearing that another person was hesitant to take medication. What scares me the most is having a stroke so I am seeing my doctor next week. Im pretty sure I will have to take medication because I dont want all the other problems. starting a low dose tomorrow morning, some overweight, but not 300 pounds or anything. Lucky to get by this long as my dad's side has HBP and late life heart disease across the board. Dad's been on lisinopril for 20 years. He's not overweight more than 10 or 20 pounds and no side effects for him. I got atenolol years ago for migraine and it took me to a dark place in days and I was back off when it got critical, so I have some concerns (different class) like anyone might, but figured I"d mention my dad, because we often don't hear about the people who have taken something for decades with no side effects. People migrate to make comments when they're not feeling good, and those who don't comment anywhere.

I also learned that the reason you have to take it it the morning is that the dry cough (mine was minimal)and usually and mostly happen in the evening. I guess this is good because I don't like to cough during the day in public.😁. Have a co worker who is Taking this. Medication. He had a Heart attack the beginning of the year. He's only 48yo. Just checked his BP 4 days ago and he was 189/105. I made him leave work and head to a Dr.s office or Hospital. That's not to play around with. And he only way 151 lbs. I'm Guessing he has circulation issues. He also has 2 stints . Me myself, I was Diagnosed with HBP in 2019. I was prescribed metoprolol and losartan. My pressured hovered around 135/89. After a year, sometime during the Pandemic. My Heart started beating alot harder. It would pound in my chest. Palpitations. Usually when I awake in the morning and my heart rate was way to fast. Like 115 bpm. One morning it's was so bad and I was so scared, I thought I was having a Heart attack at 6am in the morning, my Girlfriend rushed me to the E..R. and my pressure was 175/99 and Heart rate 120 bpm. This was while on the medication. The Dr. Immediately started an IV and gave me medication to bring it my pressure down and metoprolol to slow my Heart Rate. ❤️ They then told me about Amplodipine. Said it relaxes hardened blood vessels and arteries allowing much better blood flow. The gave me 2 (5 ) MG tablets and a hour later, my Heart was no longer thumping in my chest. It was Beating softly and my BP pressure was down to 120/75 Heart rate 75. I was now in love with Amplodipine. I ve been on it well over a year now. Alongside metoprolol and losartan at 5 mg per tablet per 1 per day. Now my pressure is amazing my Dentist and Dr.s when I do check ups. 105/70. Someone I feel a little too low at 99/65 BUT , My Dr.s and Dentist say it's wonderful numbers and good job staying on the medication taking them regularly. Lately I've started skipping doses of the Amplodipine, which my Cardiologist said was a good idea and good thinking. When I check my BP before the medication and it's 108/69. I'm not taking the Amplodipine nor losartan. It would make no sense taking it at the point. I'm too low already. I only take metoprolol at that point for a nice steady Heart rate of 75 to 80 bpm.

Hiya Doctor, I hope you see this! I've been on lisinopril for a long time, along with indampide and bisoprolol for my blood pressure. (No diagnosis given yet, just resistant hypertension) Recently, my dosage has been increased to 40mg and then to 80mg due to it being harder to control. Since this change, i've been excessively sweating, you'd think I'd have hyperhydrosis with how bad it currently is! I've even had to carry around a small towel when I just go for small walks (say the length of a field) and you'd think i've just gotten out of the shower. Do you think there is a connection between the sweating and the dosage change of lisinopril? Should I contact my GP? Many thanks!

No such thing as "essential hypertension." It's also an effect with a cause. Underlying issues need to be explored. There is always a reason. "Heavy cardio" causes hypertension due to the high cortisol level and sympathetic nervous system. The ACE inhibitors also "help" covid get into the blood vessels. Be careful....

@@Jennifer-gr7hn Jennifer, I am not a physician. I am a retired Registered Nurse with 32 years of critical care and operating room experience. My PCP, who uses the term "essential hypertension" very specifically with me, has been my doctor for 14 years. Along with a mountain of international clinical experience, he is a superb diagnostician who I personally picked after several disappointing physicians before him. He spent almost two hours with me on my initial office visit asking me very specific medical questions. May I also tell you that besides his medical doctorate, he holds another Ph.D. in nutrition & pathophysiology along with his masters in public health. I have had no issues with the competency of his care as he constantly attends various professional lectures on advanced cardiology. I see the term "essential hypertension" used everywhere on various academic medical sites. I'm not going to argue with you here but there's no way I'm changing physicians. My medical knowledge is limited but after working with physicians, surgeons, and medical specialists every day for well over three decades, I will make my own decisions about which doctor I see. Your information is appreciated; however, we must agree to disagree. Good luck with your future endeavors.

I am 5'9 168 so not horrible, but having a hard time getting down to 152-154 where my bp will come down, so with a having my dear mother pass die of a massive heart attack at the age of 63 and two brothers under the age of 55 dying also of a heart attack my Dr. wants to me to start Lisinopril in a couple of months if it doesn't come down then through diet and exercise. I will take it but I am worried I have already done damage..now I am obsessing this(probably causing even more high BP:( My last eye exam was good in Sept. I know that if damage has already started it can be seen in the eyes right? And I have had good C Reactive values. Anyway, I better start on the Lisinopril..I don't want to tempting fate too much!

@eltooyo2
@eltooyo2 3 года назад
@@gloriamaryhaywood2217 The fact that the Metoprolol I'm taking now is time-release is key. I'd been on regular Metoprolol previously and it wasn't anywhere near as effective. The dose I'm currently on is 200 mg, which seems to be my sweet spot. I no longer remember the dosage of Lisinoprel I took as it was several years ago and I only took it very briefly, due to the complications. Sorry. Hope that helps.
@gloriamaryhaywood2217
@gloriamaryhaywood2217 3 года назад
@@eltooyo2 Thanks. I take the time-released version also. But I am only on 25 mgs.To be honest I didn't even like it at first, as it lowered my heart-rate too much and had me feeling very tired and dragging thru even simplest chores. So I reduced it to half of a tablet. Now I am taking the full 25 mgs as my blood pressure started creeping up! But my body has adjusted to it and it no longer has the 'slughish' effect on me. Knock Wood! I really wouldn't take metoprolol at all if I hadn't developed Afib about 2 years ago. But it's a necessary evil now. I am going to try and ween myself off the Lisinoprel. Since I only take 5 mgs I'm hoping it won't radically change my blood pressure. Coz I sure don't want to have to increase the metoprolol!! Thanks again for taking the time to answer!😉
