Lucky you! I’ve been IF and low carb for 1 year ( I do treat myself from time to time e.g. cake with my coffee once a week if I’m out, or a piece of damper with my homemade soup if I’ve made soup - maybe every 3-4 weeks, but it’s not the majority at all) and my blood pressure, numbers like yours over this past 15 months, and nothing changed. I don’t have much weight to lose (on cusp of normal/overweight), my trigs and HDL Are normal and in perfect ratio, my LDL is high. So my Dr desperately wants me on statins, I’m refusing, and after 15 months of trying and resisting I’ve started on Irbesartan lowest dose for my blood pressure 4 weeks ago. Had ECG, clean as a whistle, tested positive for SDHB gene fault which symptoms can be tumour growth messing with the endocrine system causing high blood pressure amongst more serious nasties, but an ultrasound showed clear and I expect my MRI will too ( it’s been over two weeks and no one has called me in a flurry of panic). I’ve taken my blood pressure twice so far, once it hadn’t changed at all and the second time it had dropped half way to your new numbers. This was upon waking too, so I was super relaxed. My Dr did explain all the areas of medication and why she prescribed what she did. I’m watching and waiting ….oh and I’ve taken a Dr prescribed best bio available pott and mag powder supplement and D3/K2 for the past 18 months.

I'm on carvedilol and losartan. Went from 270lb to 195 doing Keto for a year. BP at the four months ago was 180/127 with a pulse in the high 80's. Cardiovascular Primary Care Doctor didn't like that I was doing Keto, but liked that I was losing weight. Had my follow up today and I lost 21lbs from the last visit. I think she gets in a rut with most patients not doing anything to help the situation they are in. She was ecstatic and smiled the entire time talking to me about my progress. It was a 100% change in her attitude from when I first started working with her. I've only been on the meds 4 months. The conversation was keep doing what I'm doing and we can talk about getting off/reducing the HBP meds. I keep a journal and my BP has been under 120/80 with a pulse around 60 for 2 months now.

@The Midnight Hour with Carolyn Yours is a valid point also. Perhaps there is a balance between the two. The theory for my mum is that she has smoked all of her life and a poor diet will have contributed to calcium deposits in the heart and arteries. Apparently, K2 removes the calcium and redistributes it into the bones and teeth. Maybe the solution is to just take K2? We live in the northern hemisphere and as my mum doesn't go out much, I'm confident that she will have required some level of vitamin D supplementation.

About 5 years ago, my blood pressure was at a point where my Dr wanted me on medication. 155/90. Dr prescribed a calcium channel blocker, Amlodipine. Caused headaches initially and increased heart rate. Within three weeks, BP was 185/100. He took me off it but not before I ended up in hospital, on stroke watch with a BP of 220/110. I lost18 lbs in that time for no reason. It took 2 months to get my BP down to safe levels. Eventually a specialist put me on an ARB and within a week I was perfect. Had to lower the dose twice, to the lowest and BP stays steady around 115/70. Amlodipine is toxic to some people, like me, and the body has to purge it which, caused the weight loss. It is cheap and gets prescribed quite a bit. Beware.

Ken, I just wanted to say thank you for this vid. I've known I had high BP for a couple decades. Started out a little high and continued to climb to where I'm at today. Went to the ER for a pain I had and they went through the whole thing. Two blood draws, 6 hrs on the EKG, 2 chest xrays. Turns out all the blood work came out good, xrays fine, EKG fine but blood pressure was way high. An injection brought it down part way but the Dr. wanted it lower so he gave me a small pill. After monitoring me he sent me home. I had an appointment today with my new Primary Care Dr. (didn't have a Dr. for the last 10 years). He did his work and prescribed me LOSARTAN. Prior to leaving the house I watched this vid and wrote down all of the medications and your ranking. The instant the Dr. said what he was going to prescribe I pulled out my list and saw that it was favorable for someone in my situation. That brought comfort to me so, thank you for that.

I've been taking Losartan for several years without any side effects that I can detect. My cardiologist prescribed it. So many other medications he has prescribed for my CAD have strong side effects. Statins, beta blockers and anti-coagulants in particular. I refuse to take them. But Losartan works and does not have life-ruining side effects.

Thanks! This has been helpful as I take Losartan. I am 74, T2 diabetic, and I rarely exercise. My doctor says that I am 30 pounds overweight, so I started a Keto diet 30 days ago. I have not lost a pound but my blood sugar is becoming stable at between 87 and 110 depending on when I test it, after eating or later. I was worried about the side effects of Losartan so this video has relieved me of unnecessary anxiety! Thanks, that should also help to lower my blood pressure!

Great video. I do not take a pill without studying it. We are now fortunate to have WebMD, Mayo Clinic and others to see what a drug is, what they do, interactions, or side effects. My pituitary decided to malfunction around age 65, and I take a cocktail of drugs that took nearly a year to perfect that would not mess with potassium, cause protein in my urine, or mess with other hormones. I take Metoprolol to keep my heart from racing, but my Lisinopril was recently changed to Losartan. I take amlodipine and adjust my dose when my ankles start swelling, and a minimum dose of amiloride to keep my potassium up, but have to start every day with a Thermotab to keep my sodium near or at low normal. I have other issues but at age 75, I have not let any of them keep me from traveling, camping, kayaking, or flying my drone. Life is a fatal disease, and I don't really care what label they put on whatever gets me! 😎 👍

GREAT video Dr Berry👍 I had a 99% blockage in my ADL and after having a double stent put in, flatlined twice on the Cath Lab table, I was put on two blood pressure medicines. Over the course of two years, I started off with the worst type medication, went to the middle then ended up on the low scale that you mentioned. I went on keto and after eight months, I went off of all blood pressure medicine. My blood pressure is lower now without any medication then it was Amazon the medication. I now average 115/65 which isn’t bad for 66 years old. KETO for life.

@milstringfellow6283
@milstringfellow6283 2 года назад
@@mrcalderoneful I wouldn’t say turmeric is high in oxalates but it does have oxalates in it. Just don’t take high amounts of turmeric. Kidney stones and disorders run in my family, (two generations that I know of). I’ve been taking 1500 mg of turmeric for 5+ years every day with no kidney stones or problems. If I stop taking it, I definitely feel the inflammation come back, especially my joints. Also, turmeric is a blood thinner, so I stopped taking it about 10 days before any medical procedure. But since I have a heart stent, turmeric is great along with ginkgo biloba to keep my blood flowing. My cardiologist even said that it was a good option then prescribed blood thinners. The key is, don’t overdue turmeric. 😊

I have a question or two if I may. What do you think caused such blockage, in your ADL? Were you smoker, sedentary etc.. I am just trying to analyze my own lifestyle and risk assessments etc.. Of course, I see a dr for annuals. But I am curious about your situation. What made you go checked out in which they found the blockage etc.. ?

It’s interesting that many responded with improving their BP by changing their diet. I too changed my diet and went from 20mg of LISINOPRIL to 10mg. Unfortunately, many doctors will not discuss nutrition as a way to get BP down.

Thank you Dr.Berry for this clarification I stopped taking my meds (Valsartan Hctz) and tried to go natural by diet and exercise but unfortunately I am cursed by my genetics and I just cant control it despite my efforts, so you blessing the ARB's makes me feel good to take them knowing I'm not killing myself long term, I feel a lot better also thank you again.

I finally gave into my wife and doctor and started bp medicine, and this information really eases my mind about it. My keto diet has helped, but didn't quite get it down low enough. Thanks so much. 8 more pounds to go, and I'm watching it daily. I hope to be able to get off of them eventually.

Just took myself off HCTZ because it was messing with my blood sugar and I was having potassium issues. So far it's been a week and my blood sugar is much better. I still take Bystolic and Olmesartan and my BP has been fine so far. I've been low carb for about a year or so so I think that helps. Hoping to drop Olmesartan too

I am currently on Lisinopril and Carvedilol. I had lumbar surgery and prior to the surgery I was instructed to stop Lisinopril because of dangerous reactions to the anesthetic. I have been on a low carb diet for a few years now, because of that diet my blood pressure has been more manageable. I am going to take your recommendation from one if your videos on how to determine my actual blood pressure using the seven day method, checking my pressure twice a day after relaxing for a 15 minute period. I recently left my provider of 31 years due to disagreements in the way they were treating me. I personally do not believe I need to be on both and am working with my new provider to hopefully reduce my dependency to pharma. Thank you, you have definitely improved my health via your videos.

My friend had been on ace-inhibitor plus thiazide diuretics for blood pressure. I asked her to do a PTH hormone test to see whether the diuretic had an effect on electrolytes and turns out PTH was above max with calcium normal. Her parathyroid was working overtime to keep the calcium levels steady. This was confirmed after she quit the diuretic only, her PTH went back to normal levels within a month. They don't always work as advertised.

Dr. Berry, thank you for this important information. A 68yo female with no other health conditions has been on Hydrochlorothiazide and Metoprolol for 10 years and started Keto 5 years ago. Unlike her spouse, she has been unable to achieve any weight loss or other noticeable metabolic improvements. Could the increased blood sugar side effects be aggravating and maintaining her insulin resistance?

5'10, 128 lbs, F, 42 yrs old, athletic. I've suffered from HBP since my 20s. I didn't take it seriously until 3 yrs ago and was put on propanolol and clondine (also for ADD). It changed my life! I had excessive sweating since age 15, now it's 90% cured. I also suffered from chronic tension migraines since adolescence and that problem is completely gone. BP meds have improved my life so drastically that I would never not take them. To each their own.

Wanted to share my experience with hydrochlorothiazide. I took it for a decade and one day I broke out in a rash on my arms that spread over my whole body. After 9 months and 3 doctors and a skin biopsy I found out I had developed an allergy to that med. It started to clear about a week after I after I quit taking it. None of my doctors thought that my rash had anything to do with my meds. I had to do a lot of my own sleuthing to figure it out.

I will, however, be immediately checking it against Dr. Berrys list and hopefully it is one of the (relatively) safe ones.
