Since you asked, discarding one card to try to make a pair with a card in hand, versus discarding and drawing two to hopefully get a pair, is not the same odds. Which is better depends on what's in your hand and in your draw pile. To illustrate, let's look at an extreme situation. Consider a deck where you have 8 aces as well as one of each number 1-8 (16 cards total). You are trying to make a single pair. The odds of a pair vary greatly depending on what you have in your hand. If you are holding two number cards (necessarily different), what's the odds of having a pair if you discard one of them and draw another card? None of the number cards has a match in your deck, so it's impossible that whatever card you draw next will match whatever you kept in hand, so you always want to discard it and draw two cards. Assuming the rest of your deck contains the 8 aces and 6 other number cards, the chance of drawing a pair is the chance of drawing two aces, (8/14)*(7/13), which is roughly 30%. If you are holding an ace and a single number card, the odds are different. If you keep the ace and discard the number card, the odds of drawing a matching ace are (7/14), exactly 50%. If you instead discard both cards and draw two new ones, the chances of drawing two aces are (7/14)*(6/13) which is roughly 23%. You can roughly think of it as, if you discard two, you need to get lucky on both of your next two draws. If you were already lucky enough to have half of the pair, you only need to be lucky one more time. But if you were unlucky enough to have something that can't pair, you have no choice but to get lucky twice from here on. So the choice of discarding one or both depends on whether the card you would keep in hand is more likely to pair with something in your deck, or if the next card you randomly draw is more likely to pair with whatever is then left in your deck. If the distribution of cards in your deck is relatively even, then the difference isn't significant. But if there's a heavy bias in how many of a number there is, then you want to discard any cards that have a low chance of matching any remaining cards. Calculating this break even point between whether to hold or discard with a more typical deck is a lot of computation that's impractical to do at a moment's notice, so unless the answer is obvious, I wouldn't worry about it too much. Maybe this makes me a type A chatter, but I'm not telling you what to do, just answering your question. :)

nl has absolutely no idea how to play anything but a flush build and i'm here for it has a Strength card and a Death card, can get +2 aces, chooses to get a wildcard 8 and convert a king into an 8 of hearts for no apparent reason ( he is trying to go for a full house build )

What is he doing? Creates extra diamond face cards, destroys off-suit low cards, buffs 4 of a kind over straight FLUSH, then buys a joker that buffs even cards. He's going for EVERY strat now! I don't think I need to ask how this one plays out.
