I have watched this film so many times I can just listen to this commentary without the film and see it in my head. That is how obsessive and oddly hypnotic a rabbit-hole this film is. This is catnip to people who, like Fincher and Graysmith, tend to be just a tad obsessive.
I became ObSESSED with the Zodiac killer after watching this movie. I've wasted soo many hours just reading through forums, theories after theories, and interesting facts about the case lol. Kudos to Fincher and Graysmith for keeping the Zodiac well awake in the mind of the public.
No films today need a comic crime fighting raccoon or green hulk . Yes. Zodiac is a true to life thriller mystery. and is kind of tame , next to recent big ending crime dramas Its a reality check for you
I think so too...the suspense the director creates is worthy of Hitchcock. And it builds again as Graysmith goes down the wrong path with Marshall. Though I've sern it at least 6 times, I can't help but watch it when it comes on Simply the best treatment of any competing broadcast on any given evening. Brilliant is the word.
I agree, and yet when I saw it in the theater, the 2 girls that came with me griped half the time... Then as the credits popped up they said in unison "that's it?! , then seperately-Ugh who was the killer?... What a waste of time..." Idiots. I had enjoyed it completely. They had both wanted to see the new Tim Allen/John Travolta vehicle, which was the only highlight from them that day. The one girl said "I wanna see Wild Hogs" the other replied "Look in the fuckin mirror" :D
Yes but there have been a few gems that have gone a little under the radar. Both Panos Cosmatos films are amazing. Beyond the Black Rainbow and Mandy. Drive and Neon Demon by Nicolas Winding Refn. Hereditary by Ari Aster. The Color Out of Space and The Void are both fantastic and of course Gone Girl has become one of my favorite Fincher films. There have been plenty of masterpieces this century but as far as suspense/thriller genre type stuff forget about movies altogether. True Detective season 1 takes the cake.
THIS is God's Work. you, sir, deserve a medal for this. David Fincher is one of the best movie directors of all time - his stories and insights concerning the methods of his art are PRICELESS for nerds like me.
My best friend from high school was the hand double for Jake they had to had to digitally de-hair the knuckles on lol....didn't know that was done all this time til recently hearing this. Fantastic artist, does indeed have hairy hands lmao classic hearing Fincher mentioned that!!! Lol
Discussion about how the movie made me feel and I say this movie touches a part of people that no other film I’ve seen has. I get here and I had no idea that it is so admired ! Fruitful work this film and incredibly mind tingling drove more than the headline.
I'm the guy that only likes to watch a movie from the beginning till end. Whether I've watched it a hundred times or twice. There are only 4 films that I will watch no matter where I jump in... And they are The Exorcist, Carrie, The Silence of the Lambs, and Zodiac... Mic dropped..
Is this commentary from the Director's Cut? There is audio from a scene between Graysmith and Avery just before Sherwood Morrill disregards Arhur Leigh Allen's ambidextrous handwriting samples that did not show on teh version I watched.
This New Year's tale between Arthur Leigh Allen and Donald Cheney can just as easily be interpreted the other way around: What if Arthur Leigh Allen suspects Donald Cheney of committing the first two murders? If such a meeting took place on New Year's Day and Arthur Leigh Allen melodramatically provoked Donald Cheney with innuendos, I would seriously consider that something must have happened between these two men that propelled this unfortunate story forward. Enjoy the film!

If I'm still sitting in the front seat and the Zodiac went back to his car to reload, I would start the car and drive out of there. Obviously the guy jumped into the back seat on the Zodiac's first attack. That's the only way this makes sense. The guy probably couldn't remember clearly because it was all reflexive reactions. I'm going to guess that if he could think quickly enough to jump in the back seat, he could think quickly enough to drive or run off while the Zodiac was reloading. Jumping into the back seat makes more sense when there's less time to react.
In the Zodiac Killer’s letters he said that Mike leaped toward the back seat before he could even start shooting, that’s what made him miss the headshot and then as he tried to shoot Darlene he ended up accidentally shooting Mike in the knee because Mike was kicking around so much trying to get to the back seat.
Troy Carpenter I would guess he planned to kill Mike instantly like he did David Faraday, when it didn’t work out that way he focused on shooting Darlene anyway, he came back because he’s thinking “Oh yeah, I didn’t kill that guy yet.” Like Mike was an afterthought.
@@samuelisaac5345 Yes you're right, he did tend to attack the males first, even in the Lake Berryessa attack. He would attack the females more, but he saved them for last.
If anyone didn't know already, the killer almost certainly wasn't Arthur Leigh Allen. Every single piece of DNA evidence that's been tested hasn't matched Allen's DNA profile. His finger prints and handwriting didn't match either, as mentioned in the book/film. It's much more likely that it was either Ross Sullivan or Rich Gaikowski. My personal theory is that there were multiple zodiac killers as there were a fair amount of errors about the facts of the crime in those letters. But that's just my theory.
[obviously] Fincher can’t get rid of the idea that everything is a TV-commercial. Apart from that, the film has two super-stupid [structuring concepts] [rude mistakes] . . .
No it is not dude, it is a very intriguing film. It is possibly my favorite David Fincher film ever. The Whodunit mystery in it is very intriguing to explore in the film, even when we know that the real-life Zodiac Killer case has never been solved.
