I totally agree. He mentions “to catch a thief” which was shot in a very upscale style. (An added, very distinctive element, Almost a participating character and defines the other characters.)
At first I was turned off because it seemed the man was just reading from his notes. However as he continued I realized his reach is clearly not contained within the notes but his deep study and feeling of the film and it's many creators. A superb and worthy send-off to a brilliant picture. I wish more commentaries were of this quality.
Interesting to hear this. I don't like the psychiatrist scene, but looks like it was necessary. I was also disparaging about Simon Oakland's acting. But I now that I found that it was done in one take, I have a new found respect for his performance.
Thank you for all the information you gave us AND what the initial reactions were. I always wondered what it was like to go to see Psycho and have no idea. How did they react? I wish footage existed showing it.
