I'm a sad man tonight....been busy with life the last 2 weeks and did not realize on 13 August 2021, Miss Nanci had passed from this existence to the next! I will sorely miss her presence! I began my "Waltz At The 5 And Dime" with her in the mid-80's. I was in the United States Air Force and was just beginning a 4-yr tour of duty on the Island of Guam. Her songs and infectious spirit were an inspiration to me and my family who were far from home....strangers in a strange, extraordinary land! Miss Nanci genuinely talked the talk and walked the walk throughout her entire music career. She possessed an angelic voice....always sang from the heart....a real Texas jewel! Think I'll share some of her music with our grandson on Monday morning. RIP Miss Nanci Griffith, gone but not forgotten!
Unbelievably entertaining and energetic song! So much fun! I believe that is Mary Chapin Carpenter singing backup. Nanci had a crystalline voice - beautiful!
I saw her at the Manchester Nynex in 1990 I think, The sun the moon and stars tour, with her blue moon orchestra, Nanci Griffiths live was one, if not THE, musical highlight of my life. Phenomenal, in my story she lives on because of her timeless lyrics music and beautiful voice, ❤
I love the "spunk" of this song. Nanci Griffith always comes off as sweet and agreeable, and I like to imagine these lyrics as autobiographical ones as she found her independence and flew off into freedom. What a lovely soul she was. I still want to cry at her passing.
RIP Flyer. So many great songs and stories from this treasure of an artist. This song is a cherished memory forever. Peace down the road with the radio on Nanci.
at .58 Pete Kennedy makes his appearance, he came for what would be his last appearance with Mary Chapin Carpenter and he got offered a job with Nanci Griffith at the end of the show. oh and the guitar he's playing is Nanci's, when he had an issue with his she said here try this one, this was the first time they'd met. he also played with Kate Wolf so he was a natural fit when she decided to cover "Across the Great Divide" Kate's song for Other Voices Other Rooms.
Too much crying for me... I am so moved by such genuine, natural, honed and perfected talent - with such soul... RIP Nanci, you are always loved deeply.
Since the day you passed Nancy it's done nothing but rain you never miss the well till the water runs dry thank god you left such an astonishing music legacy behind but it's still raining

RIP Nanci. Get wet eyes when litening this brilliant performance...superb !! Love her music very very much since over 25 years... This 1991 Austin concert with Mary Chapin Carpenter was amazing !! (Thanks youtube to have this jewel on here!) Same brilliant live concert: "Winter Marquee" (DVD & CD)..a must have from her!!! Greetings to all Nanci Griffith-Fans, B.L.,Germany
Nanci is not just a good composer, singer and musician, but she is an extraordinary performer, she manages to transmit her feeling while her sings, I really love this sincerity. Thank you very kindly, Nanci.
Anybody remember the Austin Cuty Limits with the trio of Nanci Mary Chapin and Julie Gold?? She wrote From A Distance and gave it ONLY to Nanci Griffith. Where did Bette Midler Find It?? Such a music debacle see the Grammy award go in the dollar record bin
From an Ol Radio DJ this song means a lot to me and we who sometimes asked ourselves " Is ANYONE out there?" Yes you were. Thank you both for listening!
I worked for some bad radio stations in Mississippi and wondered that all the time. I had a lot of listeners in prison, a captive audience. But they couldn’t call in. The owner have his daughter (with a bad lisp ) a job as DJ. I could tell we had a lot of listeners, because when I went to a business to sell an ad they’d say, “Oh, the one with that girl!” 😹 That how he knew people were likening. She did most of our ad spots too. Did you hear her? 🙀
Was 15/16 when I discovered Nanci and 30 years later I don't mind and I am thankful for/still for the radio (streaming sites) for music that lights up the night and brightens my day and outlook 😊
That line "That good ol' Boy's gonna find a band of Gold on his Stereo... and My Mama'll Call and say "Where'd she go" He'll say "Down the Road with the Radio on!" Fantastic, what a songwriter, lol
This song inspired me to start playing guitar. My first one was a Martin D15, not 0018 like the song but I think of Nanci when I play it! RIP to a talented sweet soul.
Great show!! The Indigo Girls almost seemed a little out of their depth sharing the stage with such consummate professionals as MCC and Nanci Griffith - what phenomenal performers!!
