Sometimes I just need to come back here with Nanci.. this song broke my heart 30 years ago when I was loosing my Dad & my partner…. It has always stayed with me …. ‘I am just learning how to fly away again’… stunning 💔
I can’t believe 1994 was the 19th season of Austin City Limits! The songwriters’ special that year was phenomenal, with performances from some of the greatest artists of all time, including Willie Nelson, Rodney Crowell, and Lyle Lovett. The line-up was incredible, with Rosanne Cash, Carlene Carter, Bruce Hornsby, Joan Baez, and Suzanne Vega all gracing the stage. It was a night that showcased the very best of country, folk, and rock music. I didn't know about all the notable deaths that occurred in 1994. It's sad to think that so many talented people are no longer with us. This is a nice tribute to them. Plus, it's cool that Johnny Cash was able to win a Grammy that year. It's unbelievable how much happened in 1994. The Essence of Emeril premiered on the Food Network, ESPN changed their graphics and SportsCenter got a new set. Roy Brown and Marshall Brodein retired from Chicago television and The Bozo Show changed its name. Even musicians like Toby Keith, Tim McGraw, and Clay Walker were releasing albums.👍
I've seen her there at Wolftrap and many other venues in the area. Since we lived in the same neighborhood, I know that MCC orders grande skim lattes at Starbucks. She's definitely my favorite!
How old is this recording. Must be a while ago, ‘Cuz the late great John Jennings is present. Miss him. Saw him play piano (!) with John McCutcheon, and told him I could hear Jon Caroll’s influence, which I meant as a compliment.
this was one of my favorite season 17 epsiodes seeing all these songwritters was amazing i think this one and the salute to the cowboy were my two favorite epsiodes of the show on austin city limits do you have the salute to the cowboy epsiode of the show when they did it i would like to see that one the whole way through i have seen songs from it but i have never the whole epsiode in a while.keep putting these up any other ones you can find.i love this show i used to watch every saturday and sunday when it was on.
Nanci used the Indigo Girls to open her shows when they had their self produced cassette tape out - I know since I bought one at such a concert at Center Stage in Atlanta around 1984. I don’t have any doubt she was instrumental in making sure the world knew of the duo (for the good, clearly).
I be been a fan since 1989. L I love just about every single song. I just totally space out any time of the day listening to her. Ever saw her in concert but would love her to come to NH. Her voice is I credible.
Her music has been the soundtrack of my life as a gay man I had notice she one of the first to wear an AIDS ribbon at the CMAs at a time when my friends were dying every week. Her music was healing as I would purposely walk home with my Walkman for another celebration of life or funeral service.Still is on my playlists from records tapes CDs streaming services her music is part of who I am❤
That line "That good ol' Boy's gonna find a band of Gold on his Stereo... and My Mama'll Call and say "Where'd she go" He'll say "Down the Road with the Radio on!" Fantastic, what a songwriter, lol
Mary looks like a gal I was crazy about in school. The girl could sing ,but not play guitar. She could play me though, and after 6 months I found out we weren't exclusive, so that was kinda in line with this song
Obviously MCC and Nanci are awesome as always, but how bout a big shout out for lead guitarist, co-writer and producer on this cut John Jennings on stage with them. As important to her career as any label signing or show perfomance.
