Lucky you - you’ve just discovered the queen of communicating emotions through music… she always gives it her all… (continue to see that performance and you will see that she’s still ‘in character’ about 20 seconds after her last tone - even though the audience is wild) You can’t go wrong with any Lara song. Normally the most suggested will be ‘Adagio’, ‘Caruso’ and perhaps ‘Broken wow’ (in addition to her performance of ‘Je t’aime’ in Paris 2001). “Je suis Malade” was written by famous French singer & songwriter Serge Lama together with composer/singer Alice Dona in 1973. This is based on his own experience and he was the original performer, hence some lyrics are a bit male-oriented (eg my mother leaves me, whiskies, I pour my blood in your body, …). When Serge Lama had a dinner with Alice Dona and told her about his obsessive love that was leading to a road block, she came back home and compose the music in a couple of hours. The morning after, she presented him the music and he wrote the lyrics in … 20 minutes. Serge Lama was the original performer in 1973, but a few months after, Dalida covered it and brought it to fame. She was an absolute mega star in France, another emotional powerhouse, and this song resonated very much with her own feelings. Her success with this song transformed it into a french classic, and started to make it famous abroad. But it is Lara Fabian that really made this song a very popular song in many countries with her cover in the mid 90s. At that time Dalida had already passed away, but Serge Lama was (and is) still alive. Dalida and Serge were two inspirations for Lara, so she sent an audio copy to Serge of her version. She was unknown at that time in France but he was so impressed with her vocal skills and her emotions rendering that he invited her in France to sing it as a duet. They became good friends. Lara has made some subtle changes to the song that gave it even more power and Serge Lama adopted these in his later interpretations. This 1999 version ("From Lara with Love" Concert in Montreal) is legendary internationally and has attracted many artists to do a cover, even from non french-speaking countries. The most recent ones I am aware of are from italian singer Giulia Falcone, from the korean singer Choi Sung Hoon or from the korean band Forestella.

Lara Fabian seems to have been rediscovered and quite rightly so.This is due to her association with the incomparable Dimash Qudaibergen. More information on Lara Fabian: Lara is recognized as one of the best vocalist ever seen on earth and all professionals list her in the top vocalist tier with Barbra, Whitney, Mariah, Celine, Lisa Fischer, .... In my personal opinion, she is even the best. There are a few vocal characteristics that are her signature: her famous resonance for instance that allows her to sing acapella without mic in venues with 8,000 attendees. Her nickname in the singing world is "the ring" due to this. I would also list her amazing phrasing, breath management and her pleasant tone even when belting in her upper register. Yeah Lara Fabian is a beast when it comes to singing and sensations. I adore her. It has a completely different taste when you speak French you feel the sensations 10 fold. Basically all her other songs are worth listening to. If you'd like a combination of French and Arabic there's an outstanding performance from the voice France by Lebanese singer Hiba Tawaji. She has done Les Moulins de Mon Cœur in Arabic and mind blown the jury.

Lara Fabian in one of the big greats. She is such an amazing singer, its hard grasp it. If i can recomend something that will hit home hard about here. Check out her preformance "Lara Fabian - Je t'aime - Live in Paris, 2001 - HQ || Emotional Performance". She was in a hard time in her life when this was preformed, so her pianist and a fan arranged this moment, and the entire audience sang for her, changing the words to “On t’aime” which means “we love you”. Lara said during this moment, she realized the beauty of life, and that it’s really worth living it. This preformence gets me every single time... its one of the moments that changes something inside you seeing it.

There are other live versions of this, each with its own power. The version from En Tout Intimite is sublime. There’s also a “bootleg” video of her doing it in LA in 2000 on her 50th birthday tour where she sits in a chair and uses a king white cloth as a prop that dissolves me to a puddle of tears each time I see it.
