I remember hearing "The dog, The Dog he's at it again"... on the Friday Rock show, 45 years ago, but missed him saying who it was and what it was called. Took me 15 years to find it and still love it to this day.

I too am familiar with Land of Grey and Pink. Which I thoroughly enjoy. So this is new to me and loving it just as much. Thanks for choosing Caravan.

I was drinking with Pye Hastings in our local micro pub in Herne Bay (name dropper) the other week. This lp is one of his favourites. I think Pye and John Perry’s voices sound great together, and the songs are that rare thing, a combination of Prog and hummability. This and Grey & Pink are my fave Caravan lps 👍

Not surprisingly given the form and sound of the music both bassist Richard Sinclair and his cousin Dave Sinclair (keys)ended up in the only slightly more well known progressive band Camel. Both bands produced brilliant brilliant music which deserves to be better known so thank you Jim for helping to spread the word.

A great album! With the sinister melodies meeting "English whimsy" I could imagine it being how syd barrett playing with 70s Floyd would sound.

I always feel that there's a warmth to 60's/70's recordings, whereas later stuff it ,more sterile. Adding to that, slight imperfections create perfection (as opposed to, for example, autotune).

The addition of Geoffrey Richardson (from Penguin Cafe Orchestra) changed the dynamic of the band from using just keyboards as a principal soloing instrument. Pye and Geoffrey are still intermittently touring with a selection of other musicians that have drifted in over the years!

That upbeat start first track just brought back all those lazy art student mornings ....one of my wake up it's 11am songs... And yeah I stayed for the whole album too often. Will always be a top 20 all time album for me. Those lovely swings and the sound quality....simply brilliant. Thanks Jim needed this reminder.👍

Most underrated band of all time in my view. Especially their early albums. Richard Coughlan has always been one of my favourite drummers. His fills during transitions are fantastic.

You are screwing me up so bad I just listened with you the second side of girls go plump I thought after Waterloo Lily that was the end but that was the most beautiful gorgeous and Complicated music I've ever heard and it's blowing my mind I just I can't say enough about this band I just love them the end of it sounds like the end of blow by blow diamond dust where Jeff Beck just blows off into the wind

Somehow I missed out on Caravan during my youth, but I’m glad to have found them finally a decade ago. I believe this was their highest charting and selling album. There is something welcoming about the band and the sound.

Hey Jim it's 2024 believe it or not I've gotten into most of the earlier Caravan albums now I'm starting to drift into this one not thinking it could be as good as the rest but as you see it is starting to I hope it will keep up it's rather nice, my favorite band with SM

Hi Jim, so glad you have found the music of my halcyon days :) When it comes to the C'thlu thlu track, may I suggest that you read H P Lovecraft. They are of his creation. ALSO may I suggest that you add Camel : Music Inspired By The Snow Goose to your collection (and ears) :)

Memory Lain, Hugh/Headloss was their standard gig opener for years and I think you can understand why. The band could do no wrong at this point and are still gigging away happily, consistently and successfully. I don't know how often you get out and see bands, Jim, but do catch Caravan at the next opportunity. btw - you'll be aware of Metallica's The Call of Ktulu. Well, same monster/demigod/inspiration as Caravan's C'Thlu Thlu.

Hi again Jim, I have a few albums by Caravan and I really like them. This album is unknown to me. The land of grey and pink is my favorite album by them so far. I’m with you Jim, I immediately like this music.

I remember liking this album back in 70’s. But nowadays when I take a trip down memory lane and listen to Caravan I usually listen to the live album Caravan and the New Symphonia. I particularly Iike the songs The Love In Your Eye and For Richard. Check it out if you get the chance.

You get the impression that the band really enjoyed laying down these tracks. Maybe that's part of the reason I keep coming back to the album, which sounds as fresh and as full of life as it did half a century ago. (In case anyone doesn't know, cthlu thlu is a reference to the work of horror writer H P Lovecraft.)

When you live in Canterbury this should be the first record you buy there....like I did!! Yet another thing we have in common Jim. Blasted this beautiful album all through student days. Saying that Cunning Stunts became my new fave since you played it.

In the 70s my older brother had one LP by Caravan and I didn't like it at all back then 😔 The music was too soft, there were no instruments standing out and I didn't like the singer's voice.... fast forward ... about 10 years ago I wanted to extend my record collection and eclipsed had some kind of list of 70s bands, which you should know. I knew them all, but of some I didn't have a record. So I bought for example Camel, Van der Graaf Generator and Caravan's In the land of grey and pink. I like Camel and Caravan now, but didn't find my way into VdGG 🤔 So I also liked your reaction to Stunning Cunts. For Girls ... is really good and I think due to remastering the sound is 10 times better than the 70s LP sound. You can clearly hear each single instrument and there was also some great drumming. Maybe the reason why they never had the huge success that other bands of this era had is, that it is a bit too "english" ... maybe ... but no matter where it comes from, good music is good music 🤘

On that basis, I am fluent in German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Dutch, Greek, Japanese and Gaelic (Scots and Irish) Slàinte Mhath!

Although I am very familiar with "In the Land of Grey and Pink" I think I "progressed" after that towards Deep Purple, Yes & Genesis, ie whatever was the band of the moment at school (or who had a record player).
