Zappa was just a lover of sound, loud, cacophonous from any source: human, bicycle, radio, tub. That's why he was a big fan of Varese. And his variety of compositions was second to none. Genius is an under-statement.

To quote Frank “ those who get my music, really get it. Those who dont , were’nt meant to🤔😁

There are 2 types of music lover, one who recognizes & appreciates the genius of Frank Zappa, and then there are those who don't. I don't typically like

Gumbo variations is one of my favorite Zappa tunes. There is a different version on the cd format that I grew up on, so this was cool.

Information is not knowledge. Knowledge is not wisdom. Wisdom is not truth. Truth is not beauty. Beauty is not love. Love is not music. Music is the best FZ

"From the very beginning when I used to hear those solos on those old records I used to say: now here is an instrument that is capable of spewing forth true obscenity, you know? If ever there's an obscene noise to be made on an instrument, it's going to come out of a guitar. On a saxophone you can play sleaze. On a bass you can play balls. But on a guitar you can be truly obscene ... Let's be realistic about this, the guitar can be the single most blasphemous device on the face of the earth. That's why I like it .... The disgusting stink of a too-loud electric guitar: now that's my idea of a good time."

I love this album. Took me a few years to realize that 😆. This is one of a kind, perfect in its own weird way.

Damn, I really relate to that story. I feel like I must have suffered a rejection like that in a past life. I've always been self-conscious about my taste in music and keep it private. This channel, and others like it are a great place for sharing this stuff with people who understand it because there's none of the pressure if they don't like it and on the other side of that, when listening to other peoples requests, there's no pressure on me to tell them I don't like it without hurting their feelings. It's like a partial parasocial relationship.

Listened to FZ for 50 years and still com back to him. Gumbo variations is probably my favourite. This vinyl is the best. So jazzy and all this solos with tight backing. Change of rhythm is wonderful. Pointy and Sugarcane Harris is awesome. It’s so much more, so you have a nice long travel to go. Good luck!

That was a very interesting 'response' video. I'm a massive Frank Zappa fan and the vast majority of 'response' vids in which Zappa is heard are, in general, either people that have never heard of him, or people that have and either love or hate him. The response from people that have never heard of him(hard core American hip-hop doods for example) is often very positive - given that most people who genuinely love music(of any genre) can recognise in Zappas music a level of seriousness albeit at times leaning toward the wierd/odd/jazz/lewd/innappropriate etc - so it's it's always nice for me to see people that would generally not come across Zappa's music - the othet folk that tend to comment are often die-hard fans, in which apprasials can often times seem like a competition to see who's seen him live the most or who 'really' understands his music, but to be fair most fans simply rejoice in everything ZAPPA and we congratulate each other on the fact that we rate the guy.

thanx for all the hard work you did on this! I saw you first as a very surprised Zappa-Newby, enjoying it. Next: A whole zappa-record! Great. Next step of this operation will be freaking out at one of dweezils shows jumping around like a moronic teenager....... as I did two years ago. very refreshing. Conceptual Continuity shall be forever! Please stay healthy.

I would go other way around, Zappa did everything he could that nobody could enjoy, all of everything he did, and that amused him😂

What a great album to start your vinyl listening with! I bought this album the year after it came out and have been a Zappa fan ever since. The Gumbo Variations is one of my all time favourite tracks. That nasty sax, manic violin and Zappa tying it all up over one of the funkiest rhythm sections ever just leaves my head in shreds every time!!
