Brilliant album but the last side is something else and the closer 'Gigantium' is immense. Their best since Blood Mountain. Thoroughly enjoying these full album play throughs Jim.

Hey Jim, been listening to Mastodon for years so glad you get to experience them now. Mastodon and Gojira are great friends and have toured together before. They even had to share stage equipment before in Australia due to one band’s being lost. Cheers.

I have caught those shows in Australia. As well as one with Mastodon, Gojira and Baroness together from memory. Those were great shows.

Forget my more loveable Dream Theater comment Jim. Mastadon are for sure a different class entirely. I won't say it's their best til I've really absorbed the 3 previously most celebrated albums. I do think a few listens evens out my perspective....but this for sure has a very high class starting point....👍

When you listen to 'Had it All', hear the guitar solo and then just wish so much that Chris Cornell sang the rest of the song from there.

I still think Crack the Skye is the peak, this is like second peak, so close, maybe nostalgia is pulling me , but I can't ever say that The Czar or The Last Baron isn't better than any song on this one. But man, o man, is that Peace and Tranquility one marathon song worthy of The Czar vibe...

So weird to hear a bona fide ballad from them. I was half-expecting Brann to still blast his way through it at some point. The song before that with the asian instrument (Daggers, I believe) is just chef's kiss.

Just learned that the guitar solo on Had It All was from the band's good friend Kim Thayil from Soundgarden. Great song. Also of note is the guitar solo on The Beast is from blues guy Marcus King (great stuff out there). This album will soon be in my collection.

Oh records of the year!....I have about 5 contenders before this album....will give this more time but my top ones are fab....and I have a longer list of about 15 or so I really love....actually been a decent year overall! Will reveal when you do!😅

I’ve got tea and peperkoek (pepper cake) which is a Dutch form of gingerbread without pepper but with cinnamon and other spices. I like the first song; almost a ballad. I still prefer the other singer with the clearer voice but musically everything is very ok. Second song is brilliant. Third song: another great ballad. Fourth song: doesn’t really fit in with the other three songs and again, I don’t really like the fourth song.

Here's the only less exiting thing on this album, the intro of the first song. I don't get it. I guess it's fun to play or something. On the other hand, many beautiful women have beauty spots. 🤔
