You have to have lived through this era to know how much of a breakthrough this was. In the first place, this was the introduction of any flavor of Listerine besides the almost extinct original yellow type. And perhaps more importantly, this was probably the fist time that realistic computer graphics were used in a commercial (and it was even new in movies). This was 1992, Jurassic Park came a year later, and Toy Story three years later...and Terminator 2 (T-1000, from 1991) was probably the only other instance of great computer graphics being used. I was completely shocked and blown away at how realistic this commercial looked. It stuck with me. Although now, CG is commonplace, back then it was a completely new technology to behold...and a fantastic marvel!

I remember being blown away by this commercial as a kid. The voice-over and music were spot on, but what really took it to the next level was the CGI. Never saw anything like it before.
The song is actually from the 80s by an Italian group known as Baltimora(Irish born frontman Jimmy McShane). Reportedly sung by Maurizo Bassi and co written by Naimy Hackett. Never heard it during the 80s but anybody that had a TV knew the commercial.
I heard Tarzan Boy on the radio a couple of days ago on my way home from work and suddenly remembered this commercial. I was telling my girlfriend about the commercial from when I was a kid. She had no idea what I was talking about. Thank goodness for RU-vid. Who would have thought that I'd get so nostalgic over a commercial.
lol that's literally how I found out about the song was from this commercial, and I didn't know it was called Tarzan boy until I was in my 30's lol so I had to go for decades with this song only being in my memories.

By far the best Listerine commercial from my childhood. It is the exact one I saw in the early 90s. I never knew PIXAR did this animation. They had some cool animations way before Crossing into Disney.
This is one of those things, like "what were they smoking" someone is like "ok we have to advertise Listerine.... how do we do it.... ok GOT IT. We will have the Listerine bottle swinging from vines with Tarzan Boy playing." It sounds insane but... I remember the commercial, and likely will until the day I die.

Even absolutly despising commercials _ this is one exeption. Not just disliking' but a true "hate" for corporate b.s. this is one of vefy few' that i found funny, as soon as i saw it, & still find humorous..😅
I remember as a kid I saw this commercial and it was the first time I heard Tarzan Boy and I had no idea what that dang song was and I was always asking what was that OOoOAoaoAOAOoOOAO song and nobody knew. And I didn't find out about it till I was like in my 30's. lol. Still a certified banger.
I will add that this commercial is OLDER than I am I’m watching a commercial, voluntarily, year after year, that was made BEFORE I WAS BORN I don’t know who made this. But if you ever see this comment : you have every reason to feel proud

This song was funny when I was a kid and this commercial came on. Then it appeared in TMNT 3 and I heard the rest of it, then the lyrics made me realize it was 2 mans loving each other. 😂😂😂 Woke vs. Tomi Lahren.
So was listerine in round glass bottles back then? I was 11 so I didn't notice - but I've always thought of listerine as being in more oblong plastic bottles.
