For some new eBay sellers, they may want to pack the item for shipping before listing so they have an accurate weight and measurement for the item, especially if they are choosing calculated shipping. While eBay's shipping discount may give sellers a little room, mistakes with calculated shipping could garner a sale which drastically diminishes their profit. Then they must decide to either take the $ hit or cancel an order which could ding their seller metrics.

When you are on a mobile device, it will want you to work from the app. I wish it didn't do that automatically because there's a few things you can't do on mobile. but I don't think you're doing anything wrong. I think the number 1 at the end of 5001 signifies a left-handed reel, as opposed to the right-handed reel which is the 5000. Also, the C stands for a ball-bearing spool on the reel, while the regular 5000 does not have ball bearings under the spool. Great, instructional video. Thanks!

Hi I have an issue on eBay and I really don't know who to turn to. Maybe someone will have an answer I can help me out. Okay so there's been four times where I have been in the message section of eBay and talking to somebody at either sent them my listing or created a listing to sell to them privately as an individual buyer, And it has worked and it's been cool. I had an $200 item that was not listed. I created a listing and sent it to the person in eBay messages. Within a 5-minute window somebody else picked it up and bought it. I decided to leave it as it is and send it to the one that bought it cuz they bought it fair and square but the other person's kind of upset. Is there a way to make a private listing that is particularly for one individual? I looked at a private listings but that's just for it hides the person who bought it and their information.

This is actually a great question. Here's what I do when I'm listing something specifically for someone. Let's say it's a $200 item. I will list it for $2000 and turn on best offer with no minimum required offer. That way, no one is likely to buy it full-price. And, I can take the offer for the price we've agreed upon. And, if someone does buy it full-price, they other buyer is just going to have to understand. LOL

This is such a GREAT help! Shipping calculations are always a question for me. My biggest issue is that I have lots of varying size boxes that have been given to me, so I'm never sure exactly which one is best to use for different items. I know boxes are an expense. But, for me, having several exact sizes of boxes just makes things easier for me. Plus, they are easier to store. I totally understand the benefits of recycling and reducing costs...but it doesn't work for me. I TRULY appreciate the encouraging comment. I know you can do this.

really check out pirate ship... you can change size of box and weight easily to see if it matters. the size of the box seems to make it cost more. so a box 10x10x4 @ 1lb to CO is 9.43 (Priority) and 14 oz. is $6.60 for ground advantage and 9.43 priority and if the box was 9x9x4 and 14 oz. was the exact same price. so just make the item fit in the box so its snug, cut it down to size if possible and learn as you go....

even if you list 1 item a day. no your not going to be rich... but its good to slowly get you out there. it least that is what I am doing. trying to list 5-10 items a day. and with all that I have to sell I could do that for the whole year and then I would be caught up

There may be some sellers that do that, but it doesn't work for us. We can't even get all of our own inventory listed. Our average sale price is over $60. So, if I got have of the profit, the minimum sake price would need to be week over $100. And I'd have no control over the inventory...almost like a dropshipping business model. It's just not viable for me.

I wouldn't be able to tell from here. If you have an account in good standing, have a proper bank account attached and aren't trying to list something that's prohibited, I would only be guessing.

Thank you for this video. If you watch the Ebay YT videos, they'll say you need to box up your product so you can supply the dimensions. I'm thinking that I would have a bunch of filled boxes of my inventory laying around taking up room. And.....I was worried that if my educated guess was slightly off and I didn't get the dimensions correct, that the Ebay police would be knocking at the door asking to confiscate my tape measure. I'd love to hear anyone's feedback. Oh, and Scot. If you want to save a small bit of time that will add up as you list, learn to use Control C to copy and Control V to paste. You'll be surprised at how quick it is.

Control V...now you sound like my son. 😀 I type like a drunken monkey...but I know I need to develop some muscle memory of the keystrokes. It would really help with editing videos. I would only use the boxes to get the correct weight and dimensions. Once you have those, store it in your inventory system unboxed. Keep a few standard boxes made to check and see what works best. Storing them packaged would be a nightmare for me.

You mentioned that your ad rates are normally 2%. I’ve seen the suggested Ad Rates at 11 and 12%. Do you recommend going by the eBay suggested Ad Rates?

I recommend experimenting with it. I think it really makes a difference depending on what you are selling. Since so many of my items are fairly unique, promoting doesn't help as much as it would if I were selling modern Levis. Make sense?

This shows the seller not using eBay's new International Shipping Program (which replaced the Global Shipping Program). According to eBay, all users who don't opt out will be onboarded to the new International Shipping Program by summer 2023 IIRC, which takes care of all of the customs paperwork, checking which items cannot be shipped to which countries, and managing the international returns. If you are a new eBay lister, you will probably want to opt into that program to limit your risk as you don't know how to do your own international shipping like this seller who knows how to limit to which countries they sell.

Question about shipping. I am selling an item in its original boxed packaging (9x6x3) with a weight of 1.46 lbs, putting it in a sealed plastic bag and them in a durable sealed mailer. Should I just put the dimensions of the box even though it's in the plastic mailer? What's the most accurate way to enter the shipping info so I can pass along the precise shipping cost to the buyer? Most dimensions used for shipping are nominal. So, I usually add an inch or so to each dimension and see if it doesn't impact the cost. In your situation, I probably put 10x7x4.

No worries! Asking is 100% fine with me. I use flat rate shipping. Meaning, I charge a specific amount. So, it might cost me a little more or a little less based on where the buyer is located. If you have enough room in your item's pricing to cover shipping, offering the buyer "free shipping" is an option. Just like my pricing structure, the seller still pays for shipping...it's just all included in the purchase price. Does that help?

Every account seems to start of limited. The amounts vary. Usually it's about 10 items and/or $500 total. As far as shipping guides, I've been doing a series on the different shipping methods...ie..First Class, Media Mail...etc. I haven't done priority yet. But, I'm working on shipping videos and hope to have several more up this summer. I really appreciate you watching!

Thanks for the comment! You have to make sure you are listing in "trading card singles" To create a variation listing you will need to use the most up-to-date listing tool while working from your computer. I don't believe it can be done from a phone. The new listing tool can be accessed through Seller Hub.

I don't know if this is a popular opinion or not, but I don't worry about the algorithm at all. Not one bit. One of my stores does almost NOTHING. The ChaChingKing store that has my merch in it sells a hand full of items a year. I don't drive traffic to the store and, more importantly, there aren't people searching for my merch. Whereas, my main store, it is still my primary income and I get sales everyday. I don't drive traffic to it, but the items are really sought after. If I'm not getting sales, it's almost always one of three things. My items aren't being looked for. I have them priced too high. The listing just isn't very good (ie..poor pictures, misspellings, shipping is way off...etc)

I'm just a very small flipper type seller. I plan to sell most things as "Buy It Now". I don't understand how a buyer pays for the item. Can I sell an item without accepting a buyer's credit card? How does eBay pay me? Do you have a video on how to get paid by a buyer and eBay?

As a seller, all of the buyer's payments to you go through eBay's managed payment system. So, for the most part, it won't have any impact on you how the buyer paid. In essence, the buyer pays eBay and eBay pays you. You link a bank account to your eBay account. When the funds clear eBay deposits them directly into your account. It has worked flawlessly for me.

HUGE photo mistake: People that "WHITE OUT" the background so that the items; CAST NO SHADOWS and look like they are FLOATING in a "white void". It makes the item look: FLAT. It makes the item look like a cut out photo glued to a white sheet of paper. It makes the item look ARTIFICIAL. It makes the item look hard to guess the size.

Why exclude alaska and hawaii. Never made any sense to me . Just charge more for shipping. I live in alaska it can be a pain to get stuff off ebay. Just think of all those potential buyers wanting to spend there money.

I almost never exclude Hawaii and Alaska. The only time I do is when it's something that I can't afford to ship there. If I charge enough to get it to those states, I exclude the other states because of the shipping costs. That said, calculated might be a better option if I needed to include places outside the contiguous US.

Was going very good but life changed and I was blessed with a job that takes a lot of my time so I’m not currently listing on eBay. But I’m still actively selling through FB marketplace. I noticed that you did not mention in your sample items the use of video shots. I am clearing a doll collection that belonged to my wife and found that other than ongoing problems transferring the video files it was much easier to use a video showing a 360 degree view than a serieaof individual shots. In followup with Ebay I discovered that very few people are using video so far. What are your thoughts? Pro or Con.

If you use Instagram, start following lots of other resellers. On RU-vid, go to the LIVE shows and participate in the chats. On Facebook, there are also reseller groups, too. That is the community. The more they get to know you, the more you'll see just how helpful they can be. You won't be able to get one person to answer all your questions. Most of them, including myself, are still running our own businesses. But collectively, there's so much support. The key to that is to get involved.

There could be an insertion fee. Without seeing the listing and exactly what you were being charged for, it's hard for me to tell what it was. Usually, the first 250 listing are free until they actually sell.

I was thinking about things like VCR's and heavier stereos...etc. I shipped an entire vintage computer to Alaska once and even with calculated shipping, it ate me alive. It wasn't clear in the video. I wasn't thinking specifically about anything electrical.

Thanks for the great info. I was holding off on getting started, but due to life changing events, I get to start sooner but not with my own space. I am very limited on that. I did purchase a rollo - even though I have not set up anything yet, just wanted to have one. Happy New Year! Thank you so much for commenting. For reference, I've sold two sets of stickers and two t-shirts. I've given away HUNDREDS. :-) I don't really try to sell them. I 100% understand wanting things to be in order. A couple of quick notes. You can change the name of your eBay store. Mine was originally Old School Woodworks. Back in the 90's I sold mostly lumber off my mill. We changed the name of that store once we moved to vintage stuff. The ChaChingKing name...that was just dumb luck. LOL I don't know anything about marketing. It just rhymed and was available. So, maybe, don't press yourself too hard to do everything perfect. My advice is to do the best you can and then work hard enough to make everyone think that it was easy for you. YOU'VE GOT THIS!

Thanks! You have to use a shipping method that has tracking. I know eBay has some less expensive method for cards and other flat items. I am redoing all of my shipping videos to match up better with the changes. I'll try to make sure I cover this as well.

Buy-It-Now renews automatically every 30 days. But, they will stay listed until they sell or you take them down. As far as the price of the lamps...I love them. So, maybe I wasn't trying too hard to actually sell them. 🙂

I don't have an immediate solution for you. Even when you are on Google on your cell phone, when you log into the eBay website it takes you back to the app. I've tricked it into letting me stay on the web version by clicking a link at the bottom that allows me to stay there...but it isn't always available. It always wants to take you back to the app. I hate that because I can't see the feedback buyer's leave on the app.

I've never shipped from Canada, so my knowledge is limited. That said, eBay REALLY frowns on untracked packages from anywhere. If you shipped it untracked, a buyer could simply say they didn't get it and they would win the dispute every time.

For me, it's always been one day and not same day. My post office closes at 11:00 a.m. on weekdays and at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. LOL So, same day shipping hasn't ever really been an option for me. Couple the early post office closure and the fact you need to wait an hour in case the buyer cancels the sale and same day shipping isn't very doable. Finally, I've never noticed a difference in the sale through rate on the rare occasions I've tried same day shipping.

OldSchoolWear is the account I've had since 99. I don't hide it. But I don't advertise it because I don't want viewers to feel like I'm trying to get them to buy stuff. If that makes sense. I have a ChaChingKing one, but it has almost nothing on it. I created it with the intention of keeping it basic so it would look like a new account. Otherwise, I was having trouble knowing if new accounts might differ from my old account.

Why is it that most sellers don't make a counter-offer or decline your offer if they don't want to accept your offer? They just let the time run out on your offer. i have noticed this for years.

I can only answer for myself. I usually counter. I don't counter when a buyer sends me an offer that's half price or less. That rarely works out and those buyers are often the pickiest. So, I just decline those. I don't think I've ever just let one expire. So, I couldn't guess. I would bother me just leaving something undone. LOL

It's really just referring to the process. Often, I take pictures of one item at a time and just upload those pictures to that one listing. "Bulk" would just mean that maybe you photograph 20 items at once time and upload all of those to the computer so that you could list 20 items in one sitting.

Very rarely do I offer free shipping. Most of my items are the only one, so I'm not competing with others. Free shipping limits my ability to consider offers and running sales. The lamps are beyond cool. Just beyond cool. If I go to the trouble of rewiring them, I'll just keep them and not feel bad about it.

It is absolutely not a dumb question at all. I'll try to help, but I'm limited because I know almost nothing about shipping from any other country than the US. What I would do as far as cost is, at least until you're comfortable knowing what to charge, is use calculated shipping. Make sure you know the weight and dimensions of your item packed and ready to ship. If you enter those accurately, eBay will automatically charge the buyer enough to cover your shipping costs.

Unless eBay has an image in their catalog that is free to use, I don't believe you are supposed to use someone else's photos. That said, I've never dropshipped anything.

Bit of a late comment, but when I look at my listings, it claims that I do not accept returns. I create a business policy for a return, yet the listing does not change. Is there a way to add the "I accept returns" assurance for buyers to an existing(active) listing?

You have to revise the listing and select the new policy. I kept messing this up until I renamed my new policies to things that made sense. If I had to guess, the listing is still showing the original policy.

You can list digital products on ebay. You just need to make sure you own the digital rights to what you're selling. For example, you couldn't sell digital copies of a book that I own the rights to. Ebay has a lot more information about this than I do as I don't sell digital products. Just search for "selling digital goods" and read the information eBay has on the topic.

Some things, like the SKU, are always there, but not always in the same place. I really enjoyed your video. I used to sell on ebay up until about 10 years ago and had to stop because of all the scammers. Ebay were also a big part of the problem. Once I sold an item to someone in Alaska and shipped via first class mail. Ebay made me give the buyer a refund because they said Alaska is a foreign country, the buyer actually received the item and mailed me a check to pay for it so I dodged a bullet. Another time, ebay sent me a message to say my item had sold and to SHIP NOW. But on Paypal it said no not ship due to the method the buyer used to pay . I marked the item as shipped ot see what would happen. The buyer immediately withdrew the funds.. Then ebay tried to force me to ask the scammer buyer to cancel the sale. Am I supposed to ask a scammer to cancel the sale? who’s side are they on? I also sold a camera and shipped to a PO Box in Florida, a few weeks later, the buyer contacted me, he was in Columbia and had received the item damaged, he had to pay $50 to fix it and wanted me to reimburse him. I refused, ebay ordered me to pay him. In the end I offered to take back the item but he would have to pay shipping back to USA. I never heard from him again. Interesting about shipping globally, I would certainly try that. I also think that I sold some stuff to cheap. After watching your video, maybe things are better and I might try again.

But now I'm more confused than ever! Why, since I've already chosen my shipping policy, does ebay ask for my shipping policy on every single item?? Since you can have more than one policy, and that can vary from one item to the next, it will always ask. And, even if you charge a flat rate, what you pay will vary depending on the weight and dimensions. So, it still has to ask.

As a former Ebay seller, I don't agree with your advice about the description. Make the description *Thorough AND CLEAR, and say everything right v. wrong about the item!* (mostly used items) I don't sell on Ebay any more, but I still look around and always, always read the description. I have found tons of discrepancies between the list of 'specs' right after the photos, and the description. If I wanted to buy the item, I would then contact the seller to clear things up. 99% of sellers were happy to be notified that something didn't match up.

I have gone back and forth on it myself. If you follow me on Instagram, I've written some very, very detailed description. I have no doubt that some of my descriptions have sold my items for me. But, the descriptions no longer contribute to your listing being found in the algorithm, and most buyers don't read them. Certainly, some do. But by and large, they go unread. If someone felt like they make a difference, they should absolutely include one that suits their needs.
