Title : Franz Liszt , Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2 Orchestra
From Wikipedia
Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2, S.244/2, is the second in a set of 19 Hungarian Rhapsodies by composer Franz Liszt, and is by far the most famous of the set. Few other piano solos have achieved such widespread popularity, offering the pianist the opportunity to reveal exceptional skill as a virtuoso, while providing the listener with an immediate and irresistible musical appeal.
In both the original piano solo form and in the orchestrated version this composition has enjoyed widespread use in animated cartoons. Its themes have also served as the basis of several popular songsThe Hungarian-born composer and pianist Franz Liszt was strongly influenced by the music heard in his youth, particularly Hungarian gypsy music, with its unique gypsy scale, rhythmic spontaneity and direct, seductive expression. These elements would eventually play a significant role in Liszt's compositions. Although this prolific composer's works are highly varied in style, a relatively large part of his output is nationalistic in character, the Hungarian Rhapsodies being an ideal example.
Composed in 1847 and dedicated to Count Laszlo Teleky, Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2 was first published as a piano solo in 1851 by Senff and Ricordi. Its immediate success and popularity on the concert stage soon led to an orchestrated version, arranged by the composer in collaboration with Franz Doppler, and published by Schuberth. In addition to the orchestral version, the composer arranged a piano duet version in 1874, published by Schuberth the following year.
By the late 19th century and early 20th century, the excruciating technical challenges of the piano solo version led to its acceptance as the "unofficial standard" by which every notable pianist would "prove his salt", usually as a smashing finale. It had become an expected staple of virtually every performance of the greatest pianists of the time. Offering an outstanding contrast to the serious and dramatic lassan, the following friska holds enormous appeal for audiences, with its simple alternating tonic and dominant harmonization, its energetic, toe-tapping rhythms, and breath-taking "pianistics".
Most unusual in this composition is the composer's invitation for the performer to improvise an original Cadenza, although most pianists choose to decline the invitation. A noteworthy example of such a cadenza is heard in the performance of Marc-André Hamelin. Other pianists have arranged their own versions of the Rhapsody with changes beyond that of simply adding a cadenza, most notably Vladimir Horowitz in 1953.
Eventually the piano solo version of Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2 had run its course with audiences. However, it retains the dubious honor of being perhaps the most over-played composition in the entire piano concert repertoire. Nonetheless, the original piano solo remains an exciting musical experience for pianist and audience alike. The piece consists of two distinct sections.

As I listen to this I am reminded of how much the time I spent listening to classical music as an undergraduate enhanced my learning experience. My degree is in mathematics and I can so clearly remember doing my abstract algebra assignments with this particular piece of music in the background. I think that this piece and others helped me in many ways get through my formal mathematical training.

Drama, power, heavy tones, light tones...slow, somber...quick, energizing... This has EVERYTHING (including, as I'm obligated by RU-vid law to mention--TOM AND JERRY!) ;)

I do appreciate how many of you musicians can talk about the music notes on here and understand if it's in C or C#M. I'm learning how to play piano on my own using tutorials from RU-vid, but I'll never be able to read the notes. Lol. Kudos to you all who learned the proper way and learned how to read notes.

This just captures my eye on Feudal Japan. Reminds me of such nights, walking through some snowy walkway surrounded by colorleaf`d trees, as a child. Not knowing what was lurking within the forest-set. Veering off into the woods, only armed with childhood knowlege, I would take off, and dance.

Love the arrangement but i wish the fast part was fast-ER! It has little energy played slow, no offense. I LOVE this song though. Find the other version and compare it to this one. My favorite part though would be the beginning with the French Horns

Awe inspiring!!! It is "easy listening", for me, but I guess for most it's just strange, beautiful and difficult to like. Glad 'we' like it. All can enjoy with pictures! Otherwise, it is too proud I think (only for proud people). Maybe I can copy one day with a rck band, as I have more experience with this. However, in a traditional setting, it is appreciative of some of Hungary's past! And some of Europes...too

***** stupid cat. OH AND ANYWAYS. I KNOW... sometimes games or movies introduce you to new songs... that's how you discover new stuff -_- and I knew about Classical music before, but SINCE IT'S MUSIC... you KNOW music has a lot of songs, it's not like everyone knows EVERY song... so, so what if I found this from a game, it's a good song and they showed me it, so I'm not complaining... and it's probably my problem for being mostly a Trance listener (if you ask me anything about trance, I might know it... have heard it...) ...and classical is kinda off to the side (meaning I know select songs... not like everyone's song), EVEN THO those two genres are my favorite...

@brutusmuerto The song was also used on Animaniacs, for the Series-ending movie, Wakko's Wish. After the movie, the Warner siblings (Yakko, Wakko and Dot) were remembered, but they're has-beens, doomed to lack of fame, as well as a lack of Animaniacs Volume 4. Sad, really.

Cat Concerto vs Rhapsody Rabbit Both MGM and Warner Bros. accused each other of plagiarism, after both films were shown during the 1947 Academy Awards ceremony. Technicolor was accused of sending a print of either cartoon to the competing studio, who then allegedly plagiarized their rival's work. This controversy was the subject of an episode on the Cartoon Network documentary show.
