I like how violence is framed in this trailer. Unlike trailers for previous NRS MKs where characters just beat each other and finishing it with a fatality, basically informing the viewer "yep, the world of Mortal Kombat is cool looking dudes mutilating each other" , they actually focus that this world of MK is utopia-like and the violence is what disrupts utopia or it is used to put an end to said disruption. That's how trailer gives more of a promise in terms having a good story, because they felt that it was actually worth focusing on
I hope we get some of this vibe at the start of the story. It might be nice to get a feel of what the main characters are fighting for The only other time we've seen what times of relative peace are like in the realms was Deception's konquest mode, and that's my favorite thing in the whole series
@Leo You're commentating on a video that is deep diving into the trailer references to past games and this is a relatively lore deep channel. Why are you even here?
I don't think Liu Kang will be the main villain, but rather a misguided protagonist trying to protect the new timeline by being more active. Instead of Outworld trying to invade Earthrealm, it's Liu Kang and Earthrealm who challenge Outworld in Mortal Kombat, with Liu Kang wanting to free the realms from villains like Shao Khan, but not realizing that he's becaming the invader. This could create many discussions between the characters about Liu Kang actions, some agreeing, others disagree and some are still in doubt, which could become a advantage for Shang Tsung to come in and start to turn the warriors against each other. In the end, Liu Kang could realize his mistake and defeat Shang Tsung but he still would have to deal with the consequences of his actions, with now other realms starting to form alliances to take down Earthrealm, seeing now as threat.
@@jarretthuffin never finished it though-we only saw Dark Raiden for a bit at the end of MKX only for him to reset to regular Raiden in the first part of MK11 due to time travel shenanigans. This sounds more like the player experiencing the downfall of Liu Kang as the story progresses, which would be a neat change of pace.
mk has an insane lore and amazing characters, thing is, they limit that potential thx to the stupid way they build the story mode. thanks to this "revolutionary fighting game storytelling" we get undeveloped characters forced to be part of a plot even if they need to be forced into, because roster is king. lets pray for a mk shaolin monks sequel now that we have scorpion and sub zero working together
Mileena is the royal one, Kitana is the bodyguard. Mileena is at the back of the carriage (where the royals sit) on a heightened seat (throne), while Kitana is the one sitting normally, looking outside the carriage for threats.
Just another observation that in scorpion/subzero scene they have modern day technology around them. You can see an electric fan or exhaust in one scene as well as electric lights. Hinting that the story setting might not be the past but will have some if not all elements to the modern era of MK universe.
That is definitely interesting and makes me wonder. One thought I had was we've never actually seen gkl era and this is fantasy so who's to say they didn't just have that level of technology around at the time but idk it was just a thought I don't necessarily think it's right tho
What electric fan do you see or exhaust. If it's the thing to the back side of scorpion at 1:11. if you zoom in on it. its either hanzi or Kanji and idk about the lights. because they still using the red string lanterns plus it's not even on so idk with that.
@@mothermushroom_ I mean I feel but it's def a fantasy world lol. At no point have we ever had fully functioning cyborgs decked out with weapons and shit on a mass producing scale.
I actually quite like the aestethic (i'm not sure how to spell it) they're using for the game, more realisatic without being a chore to look at like mk11, and i wonder how some humanoid characters like Goro, the Kahns and reptile could look like, though this could lead to a lot of brunch time for the devs
Keep in mind Edenian's age way slower than humans, hence Kitana and Mileena being around the same age during the great Kung Lao's area would make sense. While Raiden gaining his powers via Liu Kang as he was raised along side GKL would also line up with this new retelling of the very first tournament onward.
Scorpion, Sub-Zero, and Johnny Cage are also in the game though. It just wouldn't make since unless there was a time skip, which narratively doesn't fit.
@@TheRealFatsu scorpion and subzero are just code names. We definitely saw a shirairyu ninja with a spear but that doesn't mean it's Hanzo hasashi. He could just use similar techniques because the techniques aren't scorpion (Hanzo) specific, but shirairyu techniques. And both bi han and kuai Liang are descendents of cryomancers who may have also used the name sub zero, hence why they pass that name down. As far as Johnny clearly he didn't exist back then so he's the only real problem but with Liu creating this new timeline it's possible he brought Johnny with him or Johnny just hitched a ride from the present we knew some other way. Maybe Liu changed it so Johnny would be born earlier or something I wouldn't put that past the reason if possibility. At the end of the day Liu did create this timeline so there's really no telling in what different ways he could have affected to sort of make different things happen you know? These are are still speculations and stuff but it just goes to show you that it can make sense within the lore without necessarily needing a time skip. You'd be surprised how many mk characters could have actually been alive hundreds or even thousand of years before the time we actually know them from.
@@reggielacey2235 you can't say that definitively lol. Maybe it's not or maybe it is but I'm reality we don't know for sure cause they make either one make sense from what they've shown us and what's possible
I actually noticed the little insignia medallion on Sub-Zero and Scorpion, but couldn’t make out if Scorpion’s was the same as Sub-Zero’s. Also, Raiden (at least I assume that’s him) seems to have the “he must win” medallion on his belt.
Liu Kang being the villain due to being a god is actually quite on par with his and Shang Tsung’s arcade endings back in MK9. I wonder if this game will play on that.
well his behaviour of "you choose war on a god" may already hint at the fact that the position he now holds can have made him a "dark lui kang" so that he is in fact the bad guy. A bit lazy imho but heyho, we have four months to wait and confirm any suspicions
@@heiligmann that hints that there will be choices and more than one final boss. Go against him he's the final boss, fight for good and Onaga is the final boss.
I'd like to point out that Mileena and Kitana seem to have switched roles. The carriage is purple and her seat is more elaborate. What's more, during the ecplipse, Kitana is depicted outside the carriage while Mileena is peering out from within, generally a sign of hierarchy.
Definitely feel this is primarily set in the past. Shira Ryu ( scorp clan ) splintered off from the Lin Kuei (sub clan). Edenians/outworlders live for thousands of years, and shang tsung was a young earth realmer before becoming a trader
i think it’s best if Liu Kang just moved everyone back to the past which explains Johnny being involved. plus it also helps the issue of there being too much special forces and military and taking the franchise back to basics with mythical and nonfictional beings being more prioritized
Something to note in the trailer, Raiden is the only person not getting brutalized by Shang Tsung. Perhaps he's taking a smaller role in the back stage and focuses on nurturing Kung Lao? 🤔
@@Tribrid-zv3nq To be fair, I'm surprised not a lot of people talked about it more at the time. Well, now we know that there's a chance that Raiden is the student instead of the teacher, based on how Kenshi was teaching his lack of skills but still having that wise perspective in the gameplay trailer. Excited to see how they're going to play out his part in the story.
I like to imagine that rather than a villian, Liu's striking a balance between his and Raiden's previous outlooks on the world. "I will grant all warmth and peace, a world of kidness and prosperity.... But I swear on go- I mean, me, I will pull out the belt if you try some Kahn shit"
I agree.kinda weird people feel liu is evil Just cause he is shown less tolerant of evil.I mean raiden was pretty peaceful but wasn’t afraid to put a mofo down if they crossed the line
I think Liu Kang being a bit dark could be because this is a Liu Kang who just does not trust Shang Tsung in any manner therefore seeks to get rid of him as quickly as possible and perhaps as violently as possible to serve as a warning for others who will disrupt the peace
The vibe I’ve been getting from the character designs in this new MK has the ascetics of Middle Ages/feudal Japan look to them. Least Netherrealm is using unique designs set in different time periods.
I almost wonder if shang tsung shows up again and again to destroy liu kang's reality, forcing liu kang to kill him and reset the timeline each time, thats why the original teaser showed the hour glass running out of sand. Maybe liu kang is running out of power to reset the timeline every time shang tsung destroys it. Also, Raiden is the only character that shang tsung doesn't kill in this trailer, i wonder if that means something.
This video was well done and exceptionally detailed, the straw hat, I had noticed, but the Lin Kuei clan insignia, I have indeed missed on the other hand, in terms of design. I think the Sub-Zero is indeed Kuai Liang, but given the game is indeed based upon the events of Mortak Kombat 1, Bi-Han is indeed much more likely, even if there are instances of post-MK1 characters making a return, such as Kitana and Mileena. Just a minor thing, but albeit unlikely, I would like for Mileena to follow a redemption arc of any sort, similar to that of what you've done for her in your MK Khronicles. She's back, but her facial expression indicates she may bear a rivalry towards Kitana, but Liu Kang had still chosen to bring her back, likely she will turn against Kitana after playing allies with her for the duration of the game's story or something within those lines
@@Kdawg4859 no i don't think they would that, scorpion is obviously alwayd hanzo so it has to be either bihan or kuai liang, since they are no other scorpions or sub-zeros other than them, plus it wouldn't make sense, even if they are not them and are like descendents of the og ones or just different characters entirely, that would make no sense, plus this game is all about going back to the original which is mk 1992, and in that story it's hanzo and bihan, or maybe liu just brought back the one he knows more which is kuai liang, so it literally could be any of the 2 brothers atp lol.
@@samurai_ionian both of em meaning just the sub zeros. Not saying i want them to go that route but its a possibility. They can do anything now pretty much.
I don't think Liu Kang will be the villain, but I would like to see something among the lines "it's hard to create a world" trope. Like, it took him however many tries to get to this still not perfect one. Perhaps, there are some constatnts, like Shang Tsung needs to be there for some reason, or everything breaks apart. Or no matter how many variants he tries, story always plays somewhat similar in the end.
That would be great. Right now I theorise that the trailer is essentially the prologue of the story, being one of Liu Kangs attempts at making a peaceful timeline where everyone chooses to live in harmony, but like many other previous attempts someone shows up, starts conflict and kills people, which might lead to Liu Kang coming to the conclusion that in order for everyone to remain at peace, he must remove their free will which will make him the villain. And if not that, then a misguided hero.
I think it will be more along the lines of no matter how much he tries to change their relationships and backstories, you can't change their personalities and fate will always pan out the same way. The same choices will be made, the same betrayals, just in a different time and way.
i feel like another reason they may have gotten rid of Liu Kang's electric powers is to avoid visual redundancy between him and Raiden both having lightning and lightning with fire sub-zero and scorpion working under the same clan sounds interesting, and it could lead into something interesting when/if they do anything regarding the cyber initiative, also noob saibot if they address that kitana and mileena (seemingly) being on good terms sounds interesting, and i wonder how jade will fit into the equation also i know he's not in the trailer but istg if they fuck up Johnny i will be upset
I honestly don't think this is the same Scorpion & Sub-Zero if this is the timeline of the great Kung Lao - then those are the ancestors. So that must be Bi-Han & Kuai Liang's Forefather. As for Scorpion: that could be an ancestor from the Hasashi bloodline. This game is gonna rock! 👊🐉
Mortal Kombat Conquest also had a young Shang Tsung who was even conflicted which side he wanted to be on. I liked that version of him. They at least tried to flash out his character with a backstory to show how and why he joined Shao Kahn and became his right hand, even if it’s not canon of course. That series should be a blue print for Netherrealm Studious of how to write Shao Kahn or main villians because clearly they have no idea as seen in the last years.
A Shang Tsung that is ideologically vulnerable instead of the cunning and backstabbing bastard formed by Cary Tagawa's portrayal would be a fresh look.
I feel it odd that nobody is discussing that it's Shang Tsung who fatalities everybody else until Lui kills him. I highly doubt this is the case but I think it would be interesting if that meant the fatality is dependant on who is getting killed rather than who is doing the killing.
If there are n characters in the game, they will have to make n(n-1) fatalities. Which means the devs would spend less time on characters and more time on fatalities. That could be a good or bad thing.
Something else I’ve noticed: the carriage Kitana’s sitting in has a big baldachin on top with Sindels mk11 color theme in it. It’s clearly from Sindels royal court. Not a farfetched idea since the ride seems to be taking place in Edenia and Sindel was its last monarch until the merger after the King was killed by Shao in the original timeline and she became Outworlds empress by (forced) marriage. Does this mean Sindel is still around and has made peace with both her ‘daughters’? Hence convinced them to rule Edenia together, which could be why they’re sitting together in the first place? Or was Sindel given power over Edenia once it unmerged bc that’s how it’s always been up until the merger? But then is Kitana still kahn of outworld? Did Sindel just invite both her daughters over for a state visit maybe, sending her own carriage to pick them up to reintroduce them to the Edenian realm and its people while also adressing both of them to end their rivalry?
Yesterday, I suggested to someone that Scorpion could actually be Bi Han in this timeline. In this timeline, maybe Hanzo never became consumed by vengeance while Bi Han became Scorpion instead of Noob Saibot.
That wouldn't make sense because the Shirai Ryu is a Japanese Ninja Clan, while the Lin Kuei is a Chinese Clan. It doesn't make sense for Bi Han who is CHINESE to be part of a JAPANESE Clan. But eh, i'm all in for a new take/portrayal of the characters, considering that this after all a new and rebooted timeline.
I'm surprised you didn't mention how the the flames FG Liu Kang use are yellow and blue, which also represents the Shirai Ryu and Lin Kuei colors. I think them being his peace keeping forces/inter realm enforcers is probably likely, and the rivalry between the two clans that will eventually happen, comes from both of them striving to be the dominant/favored clan
I don’t think this is the great Kung Lao, I think we’ll get a backstory telling of what happened, but the time frame they’re in is the same as the original MK1. It would make absolutely no sense to have Johnny Cage, Hanzo, or Bi Han/Kuai Liang in the past. I think we’ll see that The Great King Lao won the original 10, and kept the peace up until now. That or they’re changing the lore entirely, placing all these characters in the past as if they’ve always been there hence the “reimagining” description. Guess we’ll see
@@jermainenowels9511 bcoz not everyone else is from the same time period. Hanzo, Bi Han, Kuai Liang and JC are from the modern timeframe not from 500 years ago where it was focusing on the fights against Outworld and earthrealm
@@OctopusH2O I’m just curious to how you have a Johnny cage character 500 years prior to the original. His change would be radical. His entire personality character is based off of being a pretentious movie star
One thing I find funny/odd about Scorpion and Sub-Zero: They damn near look like they could be brothers. Unless they made Kuai Liang Scorpion for some bizarre reason, Scorpion and Sub-Zero looking so similar kind of makes no sense. Scorpion is Japanese and Bi Han and Kuai Liang are Chinese and White. They wouldn't look anything like one another lol.
I also thought this might be Kuai Liang as Scorpion. Especially when Snake mentioned that in this timeline the Shirai Ryu might have never been established, so that would imply Hanzo Hasashi never joined the clan. Also the phrasing of Liu Kang's narration in this moment: "as sworn enemies... Or united as *brothers* ." EDIT: I'm changing my theory, it's actually Bi Han as Scorpion because that's even crazier.
@@Duchu26 It's a pretty solid theory. In both the Midway and NRS timelines, Bi-Han and Kuai Liang have never been united. I'm also under the impression that Bi-Han is now Scorpion, as that gives him room to become Noob Saibot later. Bi-Han is iconic as Sub-Zero, but so is Kuai Liang. However Bi-Han is the only one who can be Noob Saibot. I can't imagine they would leave out such a popular character, even if things are better in this timeline.
*When Fire God Liu Kang went back in time to train the Great Kung Lao, he was able to defeat Goro this time around and win the original MK Tournament. This changed history forever. This canonical MK11 Aftermath ending is the start of a new soft reboot.*
You know, Snake, I'm conflicted here. On one side I want this game to be good in both gameplay and story, something this series haven't got in a long time. On the other side I kinda wish will be worse than 11 to see you making another 4+h Kritique. ❤️
All I want is a Konquest Mode based on Shaolin Monks with some elements of Deception and Armageddon's. I don't want a Shaolin Monks Remake. Let me dream! 😢
Something weird as well is we actually see Shang kill them with himself and not control or make anyone else do it. Maybe this Shang has no one to control or doesn’t have those powers yet or something cause all his fatalities in MK11 are him getting others to kill them. MK9 was similar in the case he never actually killed them himself he just used his powers for everything so he doesn’t have to do much effort.
originally, I kinda lost my shit 'cause I thought Raiden had Shinnok's amulet on his belt. but then people pointed out that Raiden, in fact, had his own medallion, just like previously. I completely forgot about that:D
Liu Kang will probably still be getting used to all the power he has gotten, and will go over-board a few times here and there...I believe Raiden will talk some sense into him once more, and might get his lightning again from Kang or something of the sorts.
I really hope they go somewhere new with the MK series instead of “let’s do 1-2 again but with a few character swaps” though there’s a good chance that it’ll actually be different.
Ditch the dogshit system they have for the story, either give the writers some writing lessons or replace them with much better writers and if you ignore nrs track record recently i think this new timeline has a potential to be very unique and interesting. I hope they deliver
I think that's Takeda and an older Sub-Zero ancestor. I also think that there could be a Pyromancer race to go with the Cryomaners that Sub-Zero descended from. It will explain how Scorpion keeps his hell fire.
3:24 I guess Raiden still has his little MK9 amulet, huh? I wonder if NRS is actually trying to be consistent with their designs for once, or if it'll actually factor into the story again as the "unbalanced furies" alert system.
I honestly would not be surprised if Scorpion having a Lin Kuei symbol on his uniform is a result of someone at Netherrealm making Sub-Zero first, editing his model, and then just not noticing and forgetting to remove it. But we'll see.
3:01 Maybe the blue version of his powers might be thunder powers, but could be wrong since there was an intro in mk11 where liu kang had red and blue fire powers
I think Scorpion and Sub-Zero might be literal brothers rather than metaphorically as people interpreted in the trailer. It supports why Scorpion has a Lin kuei insignia and explains why their hair and facial features are so similar.
I like that Scorpion is actually a full blown good guy now from what it seems. So in this reboot/new timeline...the Shirai Ryu don't exist? What does this mean for Kenshi amd Takeda?
It very well could still exist, perhaps brought back in to the fold by Liu Kang who is well aware of the history the 2 clans shared. As Bi-Han and Hanzo are the best known for the rivalry, it would make sense for them to be the ones making peace. Hell, would be cool if they 180 and it's Hanzo who kills Bi-Han, and he comes back as the Wraith of Vengeance Noob Saibot.
@@MellowDarkflower It makes more sense for kuai Liang and Hanzo to continue the peace. Kuai isn’t like his brother who is ruthless and wanted to continue conflict.
I just like how Shang Tsung seemed to be the only one totally deleted from the timestream in Aftermath and he's the one being made a pre-order bonus. I had little doubt they weren't actually gonna delete the character, but it seems he's not even changed. Seemingly still the bad guy sucking out soul and all. At least could've made it so Liu Kang remade him as a good guy on his side, accidentally or not. But nah. I've already felt next to no stakes after 11's ending (not Aftermath) since we can just rewind time whenever, but now it seems even dying outside of time doesn't have any significance. I know the MK guys said the whole "no one really dies in MK" back in one of character videos of Armageddon or something, but this is just getting boring.
I saw someone on reddit suggest that Bi Han could be the grandmaster of the Lin Kuei now, with the Sub Zero in the trailer still being Kuai Liang. I think that would make sense, especially if they're planning to recast Steve Blum for Sub Zero.
I'm more interested in that big eclipse that everyone is looking at...a reference to the big villain in the game? It cannot be just Shang Tsung causing that.
Something else about the tea house, in the background we can see a "Mate (mah-tee) Tea" , a popular infusion in latinamerica, in a possible reference to a popular meme of a cosplayer dressed as scorpion and drinking mate.
Konsidering Liu Kang created and governs this new timeline. He could have a more neutral persona but plays the role that Raiden had, which is why he fought violently for peace. I mean, he didn't make the new timeline a Utopia, allowing evil since without evil, there can't be good.
Remember that trailer is always deceiving. Everything is out of order. Notice that the circle that appears in the sky is similar to the one in kung lao's ending from mk11. A bigger threat will arise in Liu Kang's new era.
I wasn't Expecting some of them have their Mortal Kombat Movie outfits. That's pretty cool. I would love to see more once the game is out on September 2023.
I can't decide what to think so far. I was always drawn to the series by it's characters and world so the rampant retcons within the past three games have made me more cautious of the series. I also wish they didn't go with the realism route. I'm sure I'm in the minority on that one, but the problem with realism in games is that at some point, all games start to look the same. I also liked the goofy aspects of the series that it seems they're trying to put behind them.
Regarding the thumbnail of Scorpion wearing the Lin Kuei Sigil. It is a known fact that The Shirai Ryu were a Migrant sect of defectors (one of the founders TAKEDA) from the Lin Kuei Order who realized they could no longer align themselves with their principles. The Lin Kuei order feared this would cause a rift and branded the Shirai Ryu as a traitor sect hence the unending wars between the two clans. It is good to see that The Lin Kuei never broke with Bi-Han and Hanzo being friends just like the MK Legacy Web Series.
I think it’d be interesting if that no matter how Liu Kang forms his new era, the characters are always going to go down the same basic path (even with his own alternations)
You completely missed the fact that "Scorpion matero" is now canon... In this new Liu Kang's era, Scorpion is from Peronia, a living hell for everyone, ruled by Fernandez Khan.
Well, they say Takeda is part of the season pass, with Ermac, Omni Man, Peacekeepers, Homelander, and Quan Chi. Takeda being here must be time travel related, because pretty sure he shouldn't have been born yet. Roster is still questionable if it is true. Some say Cole Young would exist.
Sektor was never rivals with Cyrax. He was rivals with Kuai Liang, over control of the Lin Kuei. Cyrax was off working for the OWIA / Special Forces and had nothing to do with the LK or Sektor.
I'm personally not a fan of another "Good guy is on par with the bad guy cause power corrupts" style of thing here, because at this point, I feel bad for Liu Kang. People keep complaining that he was too bland or too main character a lot back then, but the thing is, he essentially represented "Hope." As in, within MK's bleak at times universe, he was reliably the most moral character, a la Captain America or even Superman. Him being untainted should've been his thing! And for anyone thinking that it might be too bland of a writing, then focus on him understanding his position and feeling pressure to live up to it, and finding ways to help those around him, maybe even imply that the reason he could keep himself so together, was because of the support that he had from his friends. I'm just not a fan of "Liu Kang evil" thing that NRS keeps trying to experiment with.
If they do make Liu Kang into a villain, probably not main villain but still a threat to some characters, perhaps it would be a good idea to not follow the same path as Dark Raiden ? What I mean is that, Dark Raiden is straight up "you mess with us, I'll beat you up" kind of evil while Liu Kang could be just some misguided God who doesn't know how to handle the role of a God that was passed down onto him by Raiden. And while in that confusion, Shang Tsung or some other villain, who knows maybe Enenra or even Onaga might appear xD, took over the role of main villain while Liu Kang figures out how to solve the consequences of his actions to all the realms. Side note : I really hope, even just a tiny bit of hints, of what Order Realm would look like. Have we actually seen it ? I kinda forgot most of MK 9 and before that, all that was shown and played. I completely lost memory of it all xD
I hope it is Edenia Kitana needs to be in her own realm where she's from wonder if she'll know in a past life she was Kahn of Outworld if the realm of Edenia is back wonder if she's queen.
I do appreciate how the video is actually informative despite the joke thumbnail. I'm still expecting NRS to squander the potential of a(nother) reboot though, especially if they skipped back to the time of the very first tournament. Sigh. At least maybe we'll get Sindel's *real* personality back if she shows up this time. [/tries not to hope]
0:18 I don't know anything about Kung Lao, but just from reading this entry it doesn't really give off the idea that he was always peace loving. It seems he became more pacifistic after the fight with Shao Kahn. We just never see that from him in the new timeline because he actually dies
Could be that the game is set in 1400-1500 which explains Shang Tsung's younger design and Kung Lao's outfit is just a homage to the future Kung Lao. So far we haven't seen anything remotely modern day looking.
@@frostyjack6973 to not have him back in this game would be a big slap in the face from NRS, knowing people have been asking for Onaga to return for years now.
It seems to give off a prequel vibe to the 1st actual mortal kombat, as shang tsung is young, scorpion is mortal and allied wirh subzero.. Kitana and mileena seem to be on the same side as shao Kahn's daughters. And It seems like it's the great kung lao before his death at the hands of goro..
Well Im surprised nobody have seen the Satellite dish and AC untits in the trailer. Just when Scorpion and Sub-Zero are looking threw the window you can see a Satellite dish on the roof (left side middle roof).
Few things I thought was interesting. Not only does Scorpion have a blue badge on his chest, but Subzero also appears to have a yellow badge on his. Possibly suggesting that there are 2 seperate clans but the leaders consider each other friends? Also the fact that Mileena exists suggests that Shao Khan was around to clone her, but maybe her being in the carrige with Kitana could suggest that the 2 realms were able to find peace in this timeline like the video was sayin. I also wonder if Liu Kang having that 2nd blue fire instead of just his normal fire would suggest some new fire abilities of character change or if it's just a change to look cool. Maybe he starts becomming more intense and hostile like Raiden did and his fire starts reflecting that like Raiden's lightning did? That might be looking too far into it tho, but sounds plausible enough
Personally I dont think its shades of dark Raiden in LK I think his voice deepens because he is simply pissed because he defeated Shang yet here he is killing everyone. Im not buying this villian LK talk for one second. We just got FGLK I dont see them making him evil certainly not already. Its gonna be Onaga most likely. Has nobody seen the video that Onaga was leaked?
