So this is really impressive on a technical level, and the people who do all the cinematic elements deserve praise for it. The writers on the other hand…
@@Deathmare235 Totally, story was amazing until the scene Liu brought the Titan Kitana. Then, it's downhill story-wise even though I loved their reunion.
@@mk_jdilla the crazy part is realistically the reunion shouldn’t be a thing. Given what mk11 established for the canon. Liu should be the only remnant and last survivor of the 2nd timeline and not anyone else but they decided to have more multiversal bs and make the entire titan status even more pathetic (if everyone can somehow beat kronika and have that be canon, which basically makes the god pantheon and above even more of a joke).
My fun fact i know about Fusion fighters is that the reason they explode when losing in Invasions is probably because they didnt want to make unique limb models for every single one of them, which is why i doubt a lot of them will be playable, and the Callbacks ones (Cyber smoke, Ninja mime, ETC) Will probably get limb models for the expansion so we can get skins for them
I can't wait for The4thSnake to critique this game. I love the allusions to Mortal Kombat Armageddon. In that game Reptile's alt was the one from MKDA.
Me too, I remeber waiting post-release for it. Until I realized we'd have to wait for around a year because of invasions and other dlc's the game will release.
Thanks for delving into this. Despite this chapter making the overall story such a mess unfortunately and defeating the point of this being (another) _MK_ reboot, I can still appreciate techniques used.
@@MusicoftheDamned ironic part is for mk1, people are also now dogging for the presentation aspects of how the story mode is shown (I.e. graphics and shit) and saying mk11 is better lmao
@@nabilahmed579 Lol. Revisionist "historians" are going to revision I guess. Not that _M1K_ doesn't have some presentation issues, especially since it clearly got rushed out and screwed over by _Kill the Justice League_ (which predictabky still bombed), but I have to wonder how the _MK11_ story mode is supposedly better overall. In graphics they seem about the same, and even as someone who thinks going "infinite multiverse!" with this franchise was even more of mistake than everything _MK11_ did somehow, the _M1K_ story mode before that point is overall rather decent while the story of _MK11_ is dumb all around
@@MusicoftheDamned honestly bro, I think it’s kinda like you said with the ‘historian’ part but more so with rose tinted glasses, lots of people forget how shit the predecessor when we are focusing on mk1. Mk1 is a shit product that was rushed out by WB to make money but to say mk11 is better is pretty much diabolical when you factor in that most of the complaints that we see from mk1 are literally what people was complaining in mk11 how - game balance (in terms of what characters are mostly seen) (mk1 - it’s JC, peacemaker, kenshi) and we only saw a few characters (e.g. in mk11, we are not gonna pretend that most times we mostly players use cetrion, liu and likes of jacqui), game balance in terms of functions and mechanics(e.g. mk1 - whoever can function without kameo is top tier, mk11 - whatever characters had more clutch options with stupid kbs, flawless blocks, additional areas such as fb benefits like JC and joker, multiple wake up options, how the game originally set out to be footsies ended up being a watered down version of mkx) - greed - there was some aspects of it being heavily criticised by mk11 as well when they managed to announce the ultimate editions of the games and how NRS was tryna rip off the lore loyal fans of mk11 off lmao. Where as mk1 has this in the online store - grinding - both games were just as criticised in terms of how shit the grind was in both games lmao - guest characters - as far as Ian concerned the only guest characters and mk characters that were genuinely requested were rain, fujin, spawn and potentially Shang and nightwolf. Everyone else was either not requested but got through due to story reasons, movie promos or straight up death threats in mk11, whereas mk1 no one wanted super heroes (but comp fine mk characters I could probs list a lot more but I am gonna say mk community is very weird at times when it comes to criticism and not exactly the smartest bunch when it comes to discussion considering most of them are pure casuals. All I know is that most of ‘mortal Kombat’ started really getting go downhill when mk11 came out and it’s just not for the story only (only knew mk11’s existence bcoz I kept getting spammed random terminator gameplay trailer ads when watching RU-vid)
I like seeing you talking a little more about technique and coding stuff. I don't know if there's stuff to discuss in this manner for past titles, but it could be fun. Tho I have to say, I hate fighting games taking giant disk space for a linear story mode with no replayability. Let us at least uninstall it once we're done. Some games allow it but not all of them.
I recently went through the Armageddon scenes with several characters, the new 60fps option makes the switches a bit more obvious. Watching it over and over I realised in the Cage scene, Johnny and Janet both audibly scream, white Ninja Mime of course just mimes screaming.
I remember when they explicitly pointed out in a patch note that Ninja Mime no longer grunts in gameplay. I wonder if the cutscene was always like that or if it was also changed.
@@MazeDaGr8 mk11 still has the most people hating its story mode when you take everything into consideration. At least, with m1k, the story was only taking a nosedive in the last few chapters compared to mk11 (dlc included) being a fucking trainwreck through most of the story chapters entirely
@@nabilahmed579I'm actually one of the people who considers M1K's story not good even before the third act...tho quality did nosedive regardless at the final chapters anyway.
Thanks for the technical breakdown! Looking forward to hearing what you'll have to say regarding M1K as whole! ...in 2-3 years when everything will be released.
I totally agree, they honestly should have just kept switch with mk 11 and waited to port mk 1 to switch 2, the mk 11 port is a lot better and doesn't have nearly as much problems as the mk 1 port
Netherrealm really made a new timeline with new characters and ruined it by rushing straight to Armageddon. It's like watching the first Avengers film, and it jumps straight to infinity war.
You can delete the cutscenes and it won’t crash story mode it’ll just skip them instead and go immediately to real time scenes. I believe you can’t delete the trial mode and influencer build files alongside the credits or else the game will crash if you try to load online
Great breakdown! Cheers for the video snake. I think it’s becoming increasingly clear as time goes by that the original roster included Ermac and Quan Chi in some capacity - my thinking is that Quan Chi was our requisite “hype returning character pre-order” and the 25th character. I’d be interested in seeing a world where MK1 had its desired development cycle and we got a fully realised product.
10:26 I wouldn't be surprised is they redub the game Mortal Kombat 12 with the expansion. Since it kind of seems like M1K was just a way to hide the Shang Tsung twist.
BRB gonna find a way to replace all the Chapter 15 pre-renders with clips from Nadia and the Secret of Blue Water and Tales of Zestiria The X to make the ultimate surreal experience, the ultimate showcase of how this Titan brouhaha could fuck up the multiverse. Thanks, Shang Tsung! Also replacing the Teahouse TV clip with the entire movie I Love You Phillip Morris
On the one hand I get why they'd want to keep the file size down, on the other I kinda wanna see what happens if NR decides to go all Call of Duty and have near a terabyte of game lol
Now although I still love the MK1 story mode. I must admit that the final chapter while amazing on a cinematic level is messy on a story level. My personal issue for me is that while I love the idea of choosing your final character for the story, it kinda sucks how it’s not the same one you’ve been following throughout the story and instead is just another one from a different timeline. Where the heck were the others?! Fighting the dragon army?! I refuse to believe that the dragon army is that strong to the point where they can hold their own against the Champion of Earthrealm, both Princesses of Outworld, and the Deadly Alliance. There’s just no way that’s happening. A good way to fix this is to keep the characters we’ve been following and get rid of the characters who aren’t with the good guys, like General Shao and Sub-Zero. My second issue is something I’m genuinely confused on… What’s the difference between an alternate timeline & an alternate universe. Because this game makes these two terms really hard to follow. I thought an alternate timeline took place in the same universe but had different events and outcomes. Meanwhile an alternate universe is something entirely new that follows its own rules and such. Either I’m confused or NRS just doesn’t know the difference either. TL;DR: The final chapter was cinematically awesome, but messy. I don’t know the difference between an alternate timeline and alternate universe.
Honestly I always thought everything was rendered in game, and that the pre-render was only for the Switch lol. Nice video and excellent explanation. Can't wait to see what this game has in store for us next!
While talking about visual presentation, what would you say about cel shaded mortal kombat games? Maybe even older ones getting remakes this way, like special forces and shaolin monks!
Going multiversal is Wasted Potential...especially considering how they ruined the possibility of a "What if Shang Tsung won in Aftermath?" spin-off game. PLEASE do a Wasted Potential video on that.
I wish I had played the 3D era of Mortal kombat I was a kid during that time but I didn’t really play video games that much and the first Mortal Kombat game I played was MK vs dc
Still looks visually indistinguishable from most current games, slow, clunky and cluttered with unnecessary details. Would some personality graphicswise simply killed game developers?
@@Greg501-. What i'm saying is, that if their on a tight schedule then that's more reason for cel shading! Because you can get good result for half the price. Have you seen Storm Hawks? Not to mention the Many games that use this style to great effect like okami! You're trying to twist my words now?
@@TheCaptainhowdy11Even if this was true, then it would still be damned by faint praise just like how calling it the best story mode NRS has done would be, unfortunately. _M1K_ had a story that was overall going to be rather decent, maybe even good, until NRS decided to make its story _MK11: Part 2(.5): After-Aftermath_ and then added the infinite multiverse trend chasing on top of that. After needlessly rebooting their reboot only three games in, why should we care anymore? The "funniest" thing about the squandered potential of the _M1K_ story and it technically (not) being a r reboot is how the Great Kao Lung was teased at the end of _MK11: Aftermath_ only for him to be completely irrelevant...again. Of all the _MK_ stories to continue, _MK11_ is literally the last one that anyone wanted, especially after _Aftermath_ was the cleanest breakaway NRS was going to get.
