Best video on literature I have ever found, very clear and easy to understand. What would have taken hours to find out only took about 20 minutes :) Thanks Bryson
I have just started studying for the MTEL English (for certification in teaching English in the state of Massachusetts) and this video was incredibly helpful. Thank you so much for taking the time to break this down in such a thoughtful and well-organized way!
Hi Cynthia, I am not sure I understand your question. Do you mean from different cultures and countries? Or in different eras? Can you explain a bit further?
Great video! I'm thinking that a new general term for the next literary period after Post-Modernism could just be called "Globalism" or something nearly related. We have had a huge expansion of literature over the past 20 years that's available to more people than ever before globally. But in the near future we might be moving towards a more decentralised/nationalist or perhaps "Neo-nationalist" literary period. Thoughts? :)
In my opinon, I am not sure Globalism is quite accurate - yes we have a more invloved Global community with greater proliferation of Western Literature, but I still do not think we give literature form all parts of the world the same treatment. There is still a strong preferential treatment of Western literature. But I appreciate your attempt to label it.
We are entering an era marked by Left & Right Extremism (the last epoch of the post modern falling apart of society) and we will try to move through this wasteland to the new 'Green Era'. If we can avoid a major war (maybe we could use a dash of Romanticism chucked in there).
Thank you. This class is helpfull for me. But i couldn't get clear text of seminal text of post modernism. Will you please mention them in the comment. Expecting from you
Hi Raisa, I am not sure I follow your question. Other resources about literary periods? I cannot think of one of the top of my mind. What kind were you hoping for?
@@raisamartinez9016 I am afraid I am still not clear on what you are asking. Which licensing test? Is it for a national agency or some form of international certification? What sorts of resources are you requiring? I doubt that I have any to offer.
I have one question. I think that history of literature can help me understand how life has changed over period of 4000 years. Do you think it ( literature history) can help us understand the existence of creator (God)? And what is your view-point on it ? ( I am sorry if the question is a bit naive, but just would like to get a view-point)
You're question is really wonderful. I love your vulnerability. I think literature, philosophy, art, science, in all aspects has had that essential question in mind. In all my study, the Bible has such profound wisdom which transcends all literary and historical eras. Despite it's ancient antiquity, it's relevance to all eras, especially our post-post-modern era is quite remarkable. I highly recommend beginning your study on the existence of God through the literature of this inclusio work written by multiple authors over multiple millennia, who have an overwhelmingly unified theme. Then, as you read literature through the rest of the ages, you will see how it is continually weaving is themes through to present day. And if that is happening, and has been happening, the existence of God becomes apparent, remarkable, and even relatable.
I agree; this video was made to support a very Anglo-Centric literature course and several of the comments below are valid in terms of issues of post-colonial and post-modern thought are omitted. I apologize if the description is misleading.
This is great, but you could have gone into the Transcendentalists a bit more. Also, Harlem Renaissance was/is a vital part of American culture in terms of music, literature, poetry.
