Continuing to look at the current and future capabilities of Lithuania’s armed forces, today i thought it would be interesting to look at the country’s order for 4 UH-60M Black Hawk helicopters and related equipment. The choppers are supposed to begin arriving this year and I’m sure it will keep Lithuania’s air force busy.

Yeah, i still remember the golden spoons and utensils we bought. This stinks, absolutely stinks. Cost of the Army's UH-60L Black Hawk is $5.9 million Why are we paying 186 million for 4?

Another Lithuanian here. Sveiki. ,, ..between $5.9 million and $10.2 million A Blackhawk helicopter costs between $5.9 million and $10.2 million, depending on the model and customization. These prices vary with specific needs. The Blackhawk helicopter is an iconic aircraft known for its versatility and reliability '' And exactly, again why we pay 180 >?

Probably the best choice to buy the UH-60. I can't wait for them to be delivered. It's a shame they've been delayed again.

Since Latvia and Denmark already have them in the Baltic region, it’ll be interesting to see Estonia ends up acquiring some at some point as well.

This is a vey good start, with a reliable platform and robust service infrastructure. I suspect 4 is not sufficient and if demands escalate you're going to need more like 12. Currently I'd be prioritising patriot and long range precision munitions platforms.
@adishoogendorp4194
@adishoogendorp4194 3 месяца назад
Lithuania cannot afford patriot... it's like 1.3bil $ and LT has more pressing needs. Also, all Baltic states are small 4 maybe not fully enough for Lithuania, but it's still a significant number. P.S This machines cannot be compared to air defense or long range rocket artillery. These BH are not attack helicopters. Helicopters will mainly be used for humanitarian needs. Delivering patients to hospitals, search and rescue, extinguishing forest fires etc. And ofc some military, likely SF training.

@Sentimo-ni8zp your 2024 net budget is €2.1bn, no I’m not making the case you spend 66% of it on 1 missile battery but as a member of NATO you can make requests of the wider system. Your air defence battalion has 3 NASAM and is getting more. And you’ve signed a $495m deal with the US for HIMARS, including ATACMs. With Leopard on the way and vilkas in place you’ve got a lot of bang for your buck. And wider expert opinion is 🇱🇹 procurement and organisation has been better than many others. Lithuania is an advanced and high-income economy as defined by the OECD, the last year of confirmed economic growth saw a 4.9% rise in gdp. Lithuania should not and does not feel sorry for itself or defensive about its size, it has no grounds to.

Short of escalating into a total nuclear war, Russia stepping into the Baltics would see all of its fleets annihilated by the U.S. within a day. The rest of its forces would be gone within a week.

I wonder why they reduced it from 6 to 4 helicopters. Is it due to inflation, or maybe because the U.S. government is assisting with the purchase only to a certain price point, which allows Lithuania to only purchase what the U.S. supports them to purchase? I have many questions but I’m happy Lithuania will have this. I hope more pilots are repairpeople are trained in the future too! Also I love the new vlog channel! All your content has been great. May I request you to create a video on Vilnius Pride / Baltic Pride (two different events)? I was intending to attend Vilnius Pride this past week however I had to stay in Italy and couldn’t make it. All my friends said it was amazing. LGBTQIA+ life in Lithuania is rarely reported on except for horrible circumstances. It would be nice to see a video discussing the positives and also how some people oppose it as this is another topic of importance. Thank you again for all your videos! Lots of sunshine to your family from Italy!

The Baltic states are better served by focusing their resources on things like armored vehicles and artillery and working with allies to provide air support.

@@cm275I have said it before, but it would seem like a good idea to establish a common or mutually reinforcing layered air defense system for the Baltic countries if they have a need to have their own finger on the trigger, so to speak, when it comes to responding to violations of their airspace or defending against air threats against their countries during wartime. It would help each of these these small countries stand a little more firmly on their own feet if it ever comes to the worst and their sovereignty becomes contested. Their biggest weakness, the geographical smallness of the Baltic countries makes ground based long range air defence systems relatively more cost-effective compared to fleets of combat aircraft, since a relatively few number of batteries could be able to cover the entire airspace.

In addition to parts and support, it could depend on the specific variant. And like any deal, the more you buy, the more of a discount is offered per aircraft. For the US Army to get black hawks for $19 million each, they bought 120 ($2.3 billion)

It's actually even cheaper. cost of the Army's UH-60L Black Hawk is $5.9 million. So something is absolutely off. Also i've never heard of "support platforms" for the helicopter costing more than the f*cking helicopter itself.

@@gae_wead_dad_6914why are you speculating without even knowing the details of the contract? Latvia spent 200M+ for 4 pcs of UH-60, so just go and analyse that contract.
