THIS WONDERFUL POST WW2 MOVIE IS CROSBY'S BEST PERFORMANCE. IT IS MOSTLY ACTING WITH VERY FEW SONGS. ALTHOUGH THIS IS A TEAR JERKER AT TIMES, IT HAS A VERY HAPPY AND HEART WARMING ENDING. IT IS A MUST SEE. === WAYNE WARD

Many people only think of the song, White Christmas, or the comic films with Bob Hope, when they hear the name Bing Crosby. What they forget, or perhaps do not realise, is that he was also a fine serious actor.

I love this movie. Not only does it capture what wartime was like, it is deeply moving. Great movie best Bing Crosby ever.

Began watching black and White movies at the age of 7 yrs old when my Aunt sat me down to watch WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO BABY JANE… that was many years ago now but it remains one of my favs and I never looked back on the amazing acting, decors, fashions, musical scores and how time is captured from a bygone eras, old films have it all for me. 🎬 🍿 🎥 Thank you Auntie O for introducing me to world other people don't appreciate 😍

I saw this film when I was maybe 10 and made me cry, rewatching it at 58 it still made me cry. Bing Crosby was unusually gifted actor in addition to being one of the most influential singers of the 20th century. Judy Garland the only other performer I could think of who had this kind of range.

I saw this movie over 40 years ago, and I remembered that last scene with Binky so vividly. It’s funny how some movies have moments that stay with you, no matter how long ago you’ve seen them. This was one of those scenes that always stayed with me.

I adore this film. I found the book in a display at JCPenney’s years ago and asked if I could possibly buy it. Instead, the manager gave me the book. I treasure both the book and the film. Never forgot Binky!

+Gregory McGuire When he was filming this movie Crosby's first wife was diagnosed with cancer. He took a break from filming to be with her. She did not live long and he returned to finish the movie right after she died, still mourning. So I would surmise a lot of the emotion we see in him here is real.

What a wonderful movie. This is what cinema should be about, bringing out the humanity in humans. I just pray I never come across the two people who disliked this movie, I shudder at the thought of what they must be like.

I am afraid that it is three that does not like this. The only reason that I can come up with is that they are some of the odd balls that likes the weird and unreal and ridiculous movies that comes out now days. They have no idea what a realistic and good movie is now days. That is sad. Only people like me and you and everyone else knows what a very good, touching, moving, realistic and classic movie really is. Of the 18,000+ people that has seen this movie, I would not worry about the puny three. ==== Wayne

This movie is based on the 1949 book Little Boy Lost by Marghanita Laski. I read the book first and loved it. I then discovered the movie starring Bing Crosby and loved it as well. The ending followed that in the book, so I was really happy about that. Terrific book and wonderful movie.

This was THE ONLY TIME that this movie was shown. I figured that I wasn't the only person that loved this movie. That is why I put this movie on here. I am glad that so many has has watched it and enjoyed it as much as I have.

+Wayne Ward Thank you so much for posing this! I saw it years ago; but had never been able to find it. A bittersweet story-- haunting in some ways. That little boy was especially wonderful, There is another post WW!! film with the similar theme of searching, actually called "THE SEARCH" that is equally affecting. An early Montgomery Clift film with another remarkable child actor..recommend it.

+Wayne Ward I love this movie too and was hoping there was some way we could get as many people as possible to request that it be released on DVD. Where to go to do that, I don't know. Maybe TCM or the studio the originally released it? If you could tell me how to do so and then the others that come see this movie and like it can do so as well.

Been looking for this film ever since I saw it at school as a six-year-old 1957. I only remembered a man looking for his long lost son in orphanages with French nuns. And when he found him the lad was singing '...with my banjo on my knee'. I didn't think Bing Crosby was the father and the final scene left no impression on me at all. Only by downloading an email app did these scraps of memory lead me to it here, at last.

Marghanita Laski, who wrote the original novel, sold the rights intending that John Mills play the hero. She was appalled to find that they had been traded to Perlberg-Seaton as a vehicle for Bing Crosby, with the character altered to an American. But when she saw the result, she was satisfied. This was one of the three late entries in Bing's filmography that established his credentials as a dramatic actor; the others were 'The Country Girl' (also Perlberg-Seaton) and 'Man on Fire'. What an all-round talent the guy was.

This is a must see. Although it is not about Christmas, this is a wonderful movie to see during the holiday season. This wonderful movie is about the lost and found and believing that the man is our father, by faith. Just like the child in the movie, we think that God has forgotten about us and that we are a mistake and unwanted. But in the end, we realize that we have been and always will be welcomed in his opened arms, sheltered and protected with his love. God never forgets about us which he has brought into this world. God loves and cares about me and you.

It is all about money. Everyone connected with the money has to agree on money. That is what keeps so many gems like this from being released. The movie companies also may think that no one would buy. That is not the case with this movie. It took decades before White Christmas was finally put on video, because of money. When it finally was, the stores could not keep enough. I think that would happen if this movie finally came out on DVD, as well as many others, which I have on video as well.

I guess Bing Crosby 's behavior in the book made more sense since he was British & couldn't remain in France - but the film version - Crosby is a US citizen so he could've remained in France after the Germans invaded since the USA was neutral until Pearl Harbor It also seems odd/selfish that Crosby 's movie wife didn't make an attempt to send her son to safety out of the country especially since she was working for the underground & knew she was putting his life in danger

strange that Crosby's character learns that he should care for the child regardless of its' parentage, yet, at the end of the film he discovers the child is his anyway, so the lesson instilled in Crosby appears irrelevant.

wonderful film, just beware, if you are a modern facebook type, you will see in this film they are very intolerant of the Germans and their politics during the early 1940s. I expect today you couldn't get away with being intolerant of anyone, no matter how bad we used to say they were. It's that way for minority ethnic groups, deviant sex preferences, etc, so why not for wwii Germans? We have to now pretend that they were just doing what they felt was right, and we have to be tolerant of them right, because everyone has the right to do what they feel is right, no matter if it's dressing strangely, removing their kid's sex organs because they don't feel right, or removing a race from the earth? If we are not tolerant of these folks, we will get cancelled from our jobs and careers, right? ( correct me if I am wrong, I am just trying to keep up with the trend so I don't get cancelled myself, and I must warn viewers here of the intolerance because if I fail to do so, I will be complicit in the intolerance). I hope I am wrong about all this but I must make sure to follow the trends that my devices inform me about.
