Well you guys are all entitled to your opions and likes and dislikes. As for this old man I had the pleasure of spending time with these guys back in the 70s. I was traveling with a band and we played several venues with these guys and it was just unreal. Lowell is gone and no one can replace him, but I don't think he would want the music to die and I would like to think he is lookin down with a smile. We all die and life goes on, but the music never dies, it's forever!

I worked along side these guys for many years back in the 70's and 80's. Alley Studios, North Hollywood, Ca. A great band and exceptionally great musicians as well. Paul was fantastic on the guitar. Lowell, genius with song. I miss being with them. Lowell...rest in peace, my friend. May God continue to hold you in the hollow of His loving hands...

What Lowell and Richie and the boys created way back when was fantastic but it in no way takes away from the Feat of today. I have seen them in many incarnations and they are always great. Basically, they are one of the origional JAM bands and continue the tradition now. For those who are offended by the girl I have three names for you - Linda, Bonnie and (of course) Emmilou. All sang with Feat and only ADDED dot the music.

Paul has done a great job of stepping in as front man since Lowell's been gone. The guys have stuck together to play THEIR music. Shawn was a nice addition and then she moved on. No matter what, they have created some of the most awesome music of the last 40 years and they still grind it out, day in and day out. Still a live show worth seeing and still creating music worth listening to. I've met countless fathers at shows, with their sons and daughters, just to show them what a real band can do

Lowell George did a radio interview in 1979 that is here. He spoke of going on a "solo" tour, and as for whether the band was together or not, he had a laissez-faire attitude....Bill Payne was out playing on tour with Nicolette Larson. There was a lot of talent in LA at that time. To keep the band together, Lowell has signed a contract in 1975 to produce a solo album (I assume it was "Thanks, I'll eat it here." Little Feat was very eclectic, and fortunate that a major label took them. Lowell was playing the same small clubs that Little Feat started with. He seemed to accept it, some things work out, some don't, quoting Socrates. However, the "new" Little Feat just does not, in my opinion, have the same energy as the 1970s band. I recently bough a re-release of 5 albums on CD, and they didn't remaster it, so the vinyl albums sound better, with a few clicks and pops. I read an "authoritative" music commentator who said this was the best Rock and Roll band in America in the 1970s. I tend to agree, although the machinations of the Byrds was interesting and they made one of my favorite albums in 1968, "Sweetheart of the Rodeo". Lowell was a great songwriter, and in this radio interview with slide guitar he sings a solo song. He ad it all together, in my opinion. I would love to have talked with him, and tried to get him over the hump by which we lost him. But, he was 34, not one of those 27 year olds who OD'd in the 60s and 70s. Art Bell was born just 3 months after him, in 1945--just after the surrender of Germany. I recall testing speakers and amplifiers with Little Feat albums frequently in the 70s, and if they didn't sound good--well, the speakers didn't make it. I was in Germany in 1971 for 6 months. I really do understand why the Germans liked Little Feat--something very ephemeral....I saw a video where Lowell compared his style of slide guitar to Ry Cooder--he knew what he was doing and it was new and masterful. He was a great influence on my playing and performing.

Lowell George - you have it backwards. No he was not the band, he was only the lead singer, songwriter, lead guitar player and front man. But the whole band was tight. Still, the halcyon days are always the best. Case in point; Monty Python. I still wish we could stretch those days out; they never last long enough, ever. I agree with you on Duane Allman. Another one is Chris Howe from Yes. But like Little Feat, Yes without the original singer is not quite right even though he sounds same
@journey46
@journey46 11 лет назад
Yes, his name was Lowell George. I'm dyslexic and prone to juxtapose. Too bad George's spirit of love and peace, politeness and the benefit of the doubt did not get through to some of his fans. I'm glad Little Feat remembered it, though, and carried that light on. Shame on you Heather. To everyone else, my apologies.

@boied01 I have to agree with your, albeit callous, sentiments. It's like all those people who always whine about "The Founding Fathers" of the U.S.A. A lot of amazing things have happened since then, the U.S.A. has weathered the storm and some of the people who have guided the U.S.A. since then have done some awesome things that leave me smiling. The Founding Fathers are dead - get over it.

I remember the brilliance of Little Feat. What seems to remain are incredibly talented artists vainly trying to please a crowd. I might have sung along and continued to listen...until they interrupted the performance to tell me to sing. Shameless flogging of expectant memories like carney hawkers with the appearance of a band, but lacking heart. In retrospect, I'd guess the nosebleed seats turned out to be OK.
@DavidSmith-ss1cg
@DavidSmith-ss1cg 7 лет назад
The promoters - the Music Industry types - can sell tickets to these dog and pony shows, and as long as people are willing to turn off their brains, shell out their money, and go out and pretend to be 22 again, they'll make money from it. I can remember the ugly drama that made Lowell George bail from Little Feat. The band was never the same without him. That spark of madness he had(Quaaludes and Twinkies, anyone?) created legendary swampy grooves and legions of deliriously happy fans. That's what the "sing-along" bit was about. I refuse to let greedy opportunists(and the band, which abets them) ruin my memories. I just won't go, and I don't feel bad at all.Those fans can spend their money any way they want.The band are mostly good guys and were always terrific musicians, but that spark is missing, and they probably miss Lowell George the most.

Tehachapi to Tonopah.... I don't know what words I've used to sing along to that but it ain't been them two. 🤦🤷 I think I sang something like "you had to be the tone of ark" which meant absolutely friggin nothing to me and I always wondered wtf are they singing...only been about 40-50 years. 🤦 wait I think somebody told me what the words were way the freak back in like 1970 -71 or something. Standing in a driveway as somebody sang it. Can't quite remember but anyway. You ever notice if a cover sings a song they pronounce the words. But the originator slurs the hell out of it.

re a woman's sound being wrong for the band, tell linda ronstadt, who sang with lowell, at least, a LOT, on little feat tunes (like this one). or listen to the backup singers on fat man in the bathtub with the blues. feats has ALWAYS had female singers! as for lowell, shunning the longtime remaining band won't bring him back. listening, however, may afford some pleasure. if it doesn't, for some, so be it, but the rest of us are glad they're still around. g

@SHAKEDOWN72 Look at it this way... it's the same as if Mick Jagger and Keith Richards left the Stones. Would it still be the Stones ? HELL NO !!! Once the members who the fans identify with because they MADE the sound of the band, the MOJO of the band, etc.... the band is NO LONGER the band. May be their songs, and some original members.. but it is NOT the same band and NEVER will be.
