Ahh, Victor French. One of my favorite actors when I was a kid and now. All my uncle's died so I never got the fun of one, so Mr. Edwards was the Uncle I always wanted/want. Minus the cooking😂
Melissa was probably my first crush. Mom made all of us watch Little House. I didn't really get the show for awhile. But there was that little blue eyed girl. Next thing ya know, i was one of the first to check the TV Guide. She only became more beautiful as time carried on. At 53 years old, I still get a little smile looking at her beautiful blue eyes.
I am 53 and still see the complete show for the 3rd time. Mary was 100% my favorite. After all these years she is still a really pretty woman with the same smile and eyes.
I Loved her as an actress, she was absolutely terrific. Her personality is so Bubbly and upbeat, and there's no point about talking about her beauty, STUNNING. Wish I was 100 years younger.
Zooumberg i still LHOtP Mary is still the Pretty Girl i Was Always watching from Day 1 and now 2019 l still wAtch The ones of when where the Ingalls Girl's Are still My favoritet.
I read Alison Angram's bio book she mention that MSA kept somewhat to herself, her mother was very controlling. I could add more, but just read AA's book, very humorous, but also sadness. Sounds like all three girls used the shows production as an escape from life at home.
When of the things that I admire about the kids from this "show" is the fact that none of them got messed up like so many child stars over the years. Michael Landon should be given "props" for that because although he was strict, he was fair and when the kids weren't on the show, they had to study because school to him was very important.
It's April 2019. I named my first daughter after this character, Melissa. I decided to spell it differently. Melyssa. My two girls were raised on this show and the books.
She was not pathetic and whiney. She went blind and was angry about it. She hated being in the blind school at first. The blind students are blind and did a great job at conveying that.
Missy Anderson is so sweet in her acting and seems to be in real life. I really liked her a lot as I did M Gilbert. Since the show ended I like MG a lot less and MA a lot more
I'll never forget the episode about Christmas...where Mr. Edwards about dies to bring the girls some little sweet for Christmas. Nowadays kids eat way too much junk.
Melissa was one of my first tv crushes...i was 13 or so when i started watching and Melissa Gilbert was to young for me to be interested in and Ma was, well, Ma...Anderson was just the sweetest, most charming young lady with the sweet smile, beautiful plain but innocence about her...whats not to fall in love with as a 13 yr old boy...she was and still is very beautiful inside and out.
Very nice interview. I sort of remember that Melissa Gilbert had said in her book what an ice queen Melissa Anderson is, and I don't see that at all. She is much more natural and down to earth in this interview than MG is in any of hers.
Per my understanding, at the time, Missy Sue and her real-life mom were more like Nellie and Mrs. Olson, and were not very polite to anyone, including Michael Landon and also Linwood Boomer later on. Starting in Season Five, she didn’t want to appear in any episodes where Mary, with or without Adam, are just off-to-the-side, unless she actually has a major part. She was against creating another Nellie character after Alison Arngrim left the series, which is part of the reason Mary and Adam are never seen again after A Christmas They will never Forget. Thank goodness over the years she has changed and the cast has considered her former behavior as water under the bridge.
Melissa Sue Anderson was so hot n for h eous actress was talented . I also liked her in that horror movie when I was a teenager Happy Birthday to me...she still is beautiful today .
That moment at 3:28 when Mary slaps Nellie.....I do believe that is the ONLY time I have EVER seen Mary do something like that on the show. They establish it very clearly on the show that Mary is the good girl. She's the quiet, well-mannered, beautiful young lady who always keeps her clothes neat and gets good grades in school and doesn't usually get into trouble (she is her mother's daughter) and Laura is the tom-boy with her braids flying free, who isn't afraid to get into a fight or speak her mind. To see Mary haul off and slap Nellie is hilarious because it is so out of character for her.
There was suppose to be a fight between Mary and Nellie. The tension between Melissa Sue and Alison was so bad that they changed the fight to a slap because they feared a real fight would have broken out between the two girls. Melissa Sue threatened to harm Alison during that scene and pull her hair from the roots. Even many years after Little House wrapped up, these two had their moments. Melissa Sue threatened to sue Alison for liable and slander in 2010.
@@Diostillrocks Now I see why she talked bad about Alison here. She didn´t need to say that she didn´t see at other actor´s eyes and that the director had to correct her, and that she was scared. I see Melissa kind of mean in this interview, like she is the best and the others aren´t.
It does sound like he really cared about the importance of their education, but that was not the only reason they attended. It is actually the law in the U.S. that all child professionals, whether actors, musicians, etc, are required to be schooled a certain number of hours a day. That's why whenever you hear about child stars they always say that they went to school on the set, or on the road for musicians. It's definitely a good thing.
Did the interviewer dub his voice/questions in over the original video or something? Because it's very robotic and sounds a lot different in background noise from Melissa's replies.
In reality Mary Ingalls was blind due to an infection (not Scarlet Fever) she was never married, and she lived out her life with her little sister Carrie and died before her little sisters (Laura, Carrie,& Grace) all around i feel Mary's life was so unfortunate and i do not favor the way Micheal Landon scripted Melissa's character, she was a better actress than Melissa Gilbert but because of the books Melissa Gilbert got top billing. As a fan of the show i guess i'll always have sympathy for Mary
Well it makes sense that Melissa G would get top billing and something to look for when auditioning. It was Laura who wrote the books, not Mary, although Melissa Sue was more popular as a teen idol than Melissa G. Per my understanding, Michael Landon and Ed Friendly of NBC were so interested in the books and Laura Ingalls Wilder’s surviving family. From day one, Melissa G took the role seriously and developed a strong father-daughter bond with Mr Landon just like the real Laura and Charles did in the books.
@kaydee1696: How can you say Melissa Sue was a better actress? I think she was definitely good--everyone was good on that show--but Melissa/Laura had a special quality that was both cute, spunky and touching. And I do believe Michael Landon and Melissa G. had a special relationship. Even on the show you can see that play out in the plots. That's just how life is! Michael created and wrote the show and obviously felt a certain affinity for Melissa G.
Melissa Sue Anderson sounds very genuine and caring. I think she probably has always been quiet and down to earth in real life; similiar to her TV character as Mary Ingalls. I bet she is a great Mom! And I can not see her being 'nasty' or negative about Melissa Gilbert as was the case in MG's book about Melissa Sue. Different personalities I guess. Thanks for vids:)
Tarn Sand I completely agree. MSA appears to have a lot of class. The other two going after her constantly in their books and interviews is kind of classLESS if you ask me. MSA was certainly the prettiest girl on the show. I fear that may have caused some insecurity and jealousy in the others. It's possible.
In the first few books, there were times the real Laura was jealous of her older blonde sister and felt left out because Laura’s own hair was brown. The late Laura Ingalls Wilder also mentions that prior to her late sister’s blindness, Mary seemed to get all the boys and attention. It doesn’t surprise me that both Melissa’s were like this for the series’ first seven seasons (even though Melissa Sue’s appearances were limited during season’s five and six, and very limited during season seven, mostly because she was getting tired of the series, still being difficult to work with, and pursuing other projects). After reading Melissa G’s biography a little, Melissa G is happy to say that Melissa Sue is different nowadays, more like Mary, and thankful she had the opportunity to work with her.
It's true, Kids today don't know how much we struggled when we were their age. An encyclopedia was a luxury back then. I had to use the ones at the school library.. That was our Google. And we don't know how our parents and grandparents struggled when they were growing up.
3:25 - 3:27 Mary's face said it all: I'm so done with you Nellie Oleson. Then WHACK! Nellie went from being a cocky little snot to running off to nurse her now bruised ego.
There was suppose to be a fight, but the producers thought the fight was going to turn into a real fight between the girls. Melissa Sue threatened Alison, someone overheard it and changed the scene at the last moment.
@@Diostillrocks Yes. According to Alison’s book, Melissa Sue told her that she would “hit her for real”, and Alison basically told her to try it. Yes, apparently, the crew overheard the exchange and reported it to the higher ups, changing the fight scene.
I think the cast members who were more like their characters, that is, the late Ingalls family and friends, were: Karen Grassle, Melissa Gilbert, the Greenbush twins, Kevin Hagen, Dabbs Greer, Charlotte Stewart, Karl Swenson, Victor French, Richard Bull, the Turnbaugh twins, and Dean Butler.
And Jim Jeter, Tracie Savage, Bonnie Bartlett, Radames Pera, Brian Part (when Carl was behaving himself and not getting into mischief), Kyle Richards (then, that is), Merlin Olsen (minus the drinking), Hersha Parady, the Labortyeaux brothers, Moses Gunn, Linwood Boomer, Dub Taylor, Ketty Lester, Michelle Downey, Ruth Foster, Steve Tracy, Jason Bateman, Missy Francis, Stan Ivar, Pam Roylance, Lindsay Kennedy (only when Jeb wasn't acting obnoxious), Dave Friedman, Shannen Doherty (then definitely and a few years after, maybe in recent years too), Leslie Landon, and for the most part, Mr. Landon himself.
Besides Katherine "Scottie" MacGregor and Alison Arngrim, I think the other cast members who were not like their characters were Jonathan Gilbert, Wayne Heffley, Don "Red" Barry, Lucy Lee Flippen (I sure as hell hope she's not like Eliza Jane! She looked and sounded normal in "Flashdance.") and Allison Balson.
I meant to say that Child Labor Laws require all working children complete their education up to the age at which they can legally drop out, then it is their own choice, just like with other kids. I did not mean to say that they all finish high school; they finish the minimum required. But of course you are right, the influences from their parents, guardians and adults who work with them definitely make a difference, and that includes the environment that Michael Landon created on his show.
I find Melissa Sue Anderson so pretty and liked her the first moment i saw her in LHOTP. Rather disappointed that there were unfavourable comments on her personality when she was filming this drama.. Always thought Melissa Sue Anderson and Melissa Gilbert were best of friends then.
At one point Allison Arngram tried to reach out to Missy and connect with her over a board game. She asked Missy if she would teach her how to play, but instead of being nice, Missy told Allison she was backwards and kept insulting her. Not nice!!!
Oh yeah. Melissa Sue and her mom were more like Nellie and Mrs Olson, whereas Alison Arngrim (Alison, one L) was more like Mary. But I was under the impression Melissa Sue had changed? Apparently not.
I love watching this I have got the box set and before I had the box set I didn’t miss an episode on the telly and my favourite is Laura Because she’s just like me a tomboy And I miss some of the actors in it when they left and my dad used call me half pint
I remember being in 6th grade during '88-'89 school year, or maybe it was 7th grade the next year, perty sure it was 6th, I'll need to use a lifeline before making it my final answer, just messin', 😂😂😂😂😂, but I went to a book fair at school. It was then I became aware of the thesaurus if I recall correctly. I sure bought it, and I would make it my personal bees to look up different synonyms and actually used some of them. I would die laugh at some of the slang, like, flatfoot for police. In HS, I would use some synonyms, or "big words" to try and fit in with the adults. I need to get a thesaurus again.....
Hola en español x a no TRADUCEN ...A LATINOAMERICA ..ESTA ACTRIZ ES MUY QUERIDA A TRAVES DE SU TRABAJO EN LA FAMILIA INGALLS ....GRACIAS DESDE ARGENTINS
Ahhhhh I’ve read from the other child actors interviews how distant Melissa Anderson was with the others and that surely comes across on these interviews. She’s the only actor/reds to criticize any other cast. Wow so profound listening to her. They didn’t give her much because they didn’t know how deep she could go?
Yeah, kind of arrogant here. And it was awful what she said about the other actress, she should keep it for herself. Reading comments here I see that she had problems with that actress. Looks like she is not the kind nice girl/lady as is shown in the show. Don´t be fooled by the looks!
I’m watching the little house on Prairie now and I’m more like to see her than Laura. It’s interesting how my idea and favorite changes by getting old.
