here's a small detail, cow tipping, if you are crouched and press e on a brahmin (can't be caravan ones) you can tip him over, thousands of hours in fallout 3 and 421 hours in FNV and i never knew about that until a week ago.

I sometimes wonder just how many more secrets and bits of lore have yet to be found and how many years it will take to find the rest.

JE Sawyer adapted old songs to fit New Vegas he didn't exactly create them from scratch, he performed them though. "Streets of New Reno" is rewritten from "Streets of Laredo".

I think people don't realise that Will Wheaton voices the robobrains as his voice is so heavily altered. However if you listen carefully, you can hear Whilton's style through the voice alteration.

Bonus Fact: Dick Chaney has played less Fallout titles, than men he's shot in the face.

New Year - New Vegas.

I can't believe that they had 18 months to make this, and they still had more detail than fallout 3 or 4, with enough time to put a smiley face on the new Vegas sign. I just hope fallout 4 new Vegas remembers to put our friend in the game.

Josh Sawyers performance when doing the Fallout inspired renditions of classic folk songs always brings me great joy and melancholy for the good old days when the series was better. Still don’t know how to play caravan

I always thought something was odd about that atomic wrangler girls voice. Everytime I heard her say that Horny line I felt like something was wrong.

The Rangler's crier was most likely a child, early in development which would warrant the child voice actor. However, most likely due to internal reasons (like morals) they changed the character into an adult. They may have also been trying to avoid censorship laws thar may be brought into question if the character was a child.

One of my favorites that I only learned about this year: Two Step Goodbye + Khan Trick = Explosive Dirt!

"The Streets of Laredo" as sung by Marty Robbins is on of my favorite songs ever. Although I knew about "Home On the Wastes", "The Streets of New Reno" is an amazing surprise.

The song that plays at the Abandoned Highwayman location is Gold Slouch, the theme for Redding in Fallout 2. Gold Slouch is also a nod to the popular theme song for Flagg from the miniseries The Stand.

I like how you have a 5% chance of collecting star caps when you drink regular bottles of sunset sasparilla. It's the only way I've ever collected 50 caps. Also related, whenever you craft a bottle of sunset sas from scratch, this same effect applies, thus there are potentially unlimited star caps in the game.

I am sometimes shocked by how many people don't know the significance and the homage that the statue of the Arizona Ranger and the NCR Ranger shaking hands has.

I like the fact of "The streets of New Reno" being a testament to how good Marty Robins music is.

I feel like it would be a really cool bit of lore if they had made it that easy Pete was one of the original vault dwellers from vault 34 but didn’t go to Nellis with the boomers. It would be a cool add on to his explosives knowledge. It would also still leave room in the timeline for his working as a miner.

I suppose having Fallout as a Special Interest is good for going “Oh yeah! I knew that!” at videos like this.

Something else I find really neat about the Lonesome Drifter’s New Reno song: it is actually a variant on the very old British folk song “The Unfortunate Rake” aka “The Unfortunate Lad.” The song dates back at least to the 19th century but could originate as far back as the mid-18th century or earlier. It is very fitting to use new lyrics on this tune as most people who sing it will change the lyrics to be about whatever subject is relevant to them, be it a soldier, sailor, farmer, or even a cowboy in the Lonesome Drifter’s case! Brendan Gleason also sings a really neat rendition of “The Unfortunate Rake” in the film The Ballad of Buster Scruggs. It’s so cool that a tune with such rich history made its way into New Vegas as a hidden gem! Really interesting to imagine this folk song surviving the apocalypse and still being passed down 400+ years after its creation. Great video as always; crazy how there is always more to uncover about this amazing game!

That Streets of New Reno track sounds like an adaptation of the Marty Robbins song Streets of Laredo. Its really cool they were giving Robbins some of the attention he deserves.

Some of the light poles in Freeside and Outer Vegas have "TES-04" stamped on them.

What still freaks me out to this day, I downloaded the soundtrack onto a cheap MP3 player a couple years ago while on a camping trip, I was walking down the street of Portland Maine, and I hear a street performer singing the exact same song I had listen to like 20 minutes before. The new Reno one.

Hey Mantis, I remember the stream where you talked about this stuff. The smiley face was something I actually did not know. But that is a very interesting little detail. I believe I was the one that told you about the voice actress being only 13 at the time (or maybe she was even 12 depending which day her birthday was and when the lines were recorded, because keep in mind this game had 18 months of development time so the recordings could have happened any time along that road of development). I brought up some little-known facts in the video I uploaded yesterday if you care to check it out. One new thing I even discovered myself during that playthrough is that you can kite the Bighorners into attacking the Vipers at Bonnie Springs, and that way even at level 1 you can clear that area out and get the loot with the Bighorners doing all the work for you. And of course the little known-fact that its possible to get there at level 1 in the first place, but I covered that a long time ago.

Amazing video as always Mantis! Im suprised you didn't include the fact about Benny's voice actor, Mattew Perry, was a HUGE fan of fallout 3. He even appeared on the Ellen show to talk about it. He apparently played so much he needed to go to a hand doctor. He also have Ellen a signed copy of Fallout 3. Its on youtube if you're interested.

If you crank up your movement speed enough you can run into areas where there are crucified NPCs and watch them jump onto the crosses. The crosses are more or less coded as chairs.

I recently found out that Ulysses follows you around in Lonesome Road.

This is one of the few times that I both “put a like on a video of I didn’t know something” AND found out stuff I didn’t know. The smiley being the biggest one, I played NV exclusively for YEARS on the 360 and never noticed that detail..

Little known fact about Mantis - mantis was born Gregory David TKsmantis in a small rural town in Pennsylvania to a nice loving mother and father. His father David was a computer programmer for the local church and his mother Patricia worked as a elementary school teacher. Mantis eventually grew fond of the fallout series but before this he was infatuated with the farm animals such as cows 🐮 all around him as this was rural PA. Mantis is loved by so many people so don’t ever think your not !

I was surprised to learn that there are companion dialogue lines where they comment on the final battle, because I only played the House Always Wins ending, but you can't bring a companion with you when you trigger the endgame quest for Mr House...

Here’s a fun secret, go to the gun runners and have any gun that the vendor also has. We’ll use the “lever action shotgun” as an example. Equip the shotgun and shoot it until it’s down to about 10% condition. Now sell that gun to the vendor, then go into his inventory and buy back that same gun. You’ll notice that you have a mint condition version of the gun! It’s a great way method for buying anything you want and still getting back every cap, plus all of the vendors. Just make sure that once you are done, you actually buy back the low condition version, if you wish to do it in the future. Otherwise you’ll have to re-ruin the gun to do it properly. The lower the condition, the more caps you’ll make back every time you buy and sell the gun.

"Begin Again" The song was created by Obsidian Entertainment sound designer Justin Bell (music and text setting), creative lead Chris Avellone (lyrics), audio producer Mikey Dowling (lyrics), and was sung by art intern Stephanie Dowling.

I like how I watched a WIRED video on an FBI Agent breaking down the body language of gangsters and once they got to the inspiration to Benny (which I didn't know that at the time) I commented, "Looks like he's about to steal my platinum chip."

10:51 - Let's see... For me, I didn't know that there are little random events that can take place on the Strip. I was always so focused on going to specific locations that when I noticed something was different years later I was stunned. So far the only ones I know about are 1) The NCR Monorail Station where it's normally fairly featureless, but sometimes a pair of NCR soldiers will be bickering about having to deal with someone having plastered anti-NCR graffiti on the wall. Afterward, the graffiti will be covered with white paint. And the one that made me realize other things could happen 2) There's an event where three drunken female NCR soldiers have stripped down to their underwear dancing in the Ultra Lux fountain surrounded by Securitrons trying to get them to leave before an NCR MP arrives to take them away. (Not all the dialogue is in the vid) - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-zWQ8LVyr6aw.html I also didn't know that it was possible to not have Dean Domino try to kill you in Dead Money until like a month ago, so I actually found out about and experienced the ending where you and Father Elija bomb New Vegas *WAY* before I ever saw the "good" ending, much less about Dean not killing you. (It's so stupid that it's tied to a speech check that screws you over if you *succeed* when it in no way indicates that you're overtly threatening him. Not to mention the fact that it's possible to talk down other characters like Christine and Dog/God even if you were a dick to them initially). Speaking of Dean and New Vegas, although the line "Just because I work in entertainment doesn't mean I'm a moron" is played regardless of the player's intelligence level, if you have a low intelligence character and pick the dumb dialogue the dumb line will have extra emphasis on the word "I'm." - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8XllttBJi98.html The voice actor for Dean Domino, Barry Dennen, passed and had previously voiced other video game characters such as Fatman in Metal Gear Solid 2, and various characters in Dragon Age: Origins, Darksiders II, Grim Fandango, and others. Also, if you directly kill or lead the love interest of Jack from the Boomer's territory to her death, the character will immediately run to the workshop, be found on the bed and will refuse to speak with you. Presumably heartbroken and depressed by what transpired. Edit: Oh! Another thing that I found hilarious; I always found Honest Hearts to be the weakest DLC by far, especially when it comes to story, and there's an ending that encapsulated that notion perfectly for me: If I recall correctly, all you have to do is attack one of the members of the Dead Horses or Sorrows and you'll get the objective to find the map and leave. Normally, as a player, I would kill other people, but if you leave all the major NPCs (Waking Cloud, Daniel, The Burned Man, and Follows Chalk) alive, then the ending will only say that "your involvement tipped the fragile balance of power" talk about the Happy Trails Caravan, and then immediately end with absolutely no mention of any of the tribes or characters.

What I learned from this video: I will never look at the Atomic Wrangler criers the same way ever again...

Man im 25 now and still enjoy hearing stuff about New Vegas and to think if we didnt get all this cut content how crazy the game would have been we can only imagine

There's one bit of weird meta-game trivia that stuck out immediately about House (or, more specifically, about Rene Auberjonois.) There's some superficial similarities between House and Andrew Ryan from Bioshock (which doesn't mean anything on its own. Both characters were based off Howard Hughes.) However, Andrew Ryan was voiced by Armin Shimerman. Auberjonois and Shimerman both starred in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, playing the station's Constable and a shady bar owner respectively. It doesn't really mean anything, but it is an amusing coincidence.

I like to think that the reason the Atomic Wrangler Crier is voiced by a child was because of how dark freeside was supposed to be, and that they ran out of time due to the release date, making it a very forgettable place outside of being the entrance to New Vegas
