By the early to mid 1900’s, Little Manila in South Stockton became home to one of the largest Filipino populations in the country. There were many firsts for the Stockton area because of the Filipino community from churches, shops, and clubs, according to Terry Torres with the Filipino American National Historical Society.
What use to stretch for several blocks off El Dorado Street to Downtown, not much remains of Little Manila. Most of the buildings have been torn down as urban development and a highway moved in.
ABC10 reporter, Ananda Rochita provides an inside look at what used to be Little Manila in Stockton.

Thank you for your documentary. The Philipino people of California need more recognition. These hard working people are the backbone of the country. God bless you and your families.

My grandfather had a pool hall there way back when. He made the journey to America in the early 20's and landed at one of the docks in fisherman's wharf SF. He was the kindest man I've ever known and loved America deeply.

Hey how do Filipino Americans get confused if they are Asian or not? The Philippines just hosted the Asian Games. The Philippines are one of the founding members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations. The Philippines do not compete in the Pacific Games with other Pacific Islands nations. The Philippines do not join Pacific Islands Forum like other Pacific Islands countries. If they even spent 1 minute to look it up, they'd find out the Philippines is in Southeast Asia.

It’s Asia but nothing like oriental culture because a lot of Spanish and American culture. A lot o the culture is similar to Island culture in visayans islands but yes it’s still part of Asia.

These filipino immigrants would have been treated differently if they were blonde with blues eyes
@Duquedecastro
@Duquedecastro 4 месяца назад
That’s impossible, they would never have those features. Mexicans, Italians, etc could be blonde, but not Asians

Filipino heritage in Stockton is weak, that is why Jolibee and Seafood City etc are not existent in Stockton and will not thrive there.
