I applaud this movie for the simple fact the 14 year old girl Marsai Martin produced it using her own production company. Either good or bad, I think it’s a huge accomplishment to have a major motion picture under your name and business at that age.

I love movies that are full of tropes that Korey hates... those are the best D.T. reviews. It's CRAZY that we got 2 BIG movies within 1 week. Literally a week ago we got Shazam! Now we got Little.... not even spread out a month apart or anything, just 1 week.

I feel like these kinds of “kid-adult” movies will become a trend, especially when they don’t require that much effort to produce. So by the time Shazam 2 comes out, people will be sick of them and be extremely critical on the movie. It’ll be a shame if that were to happen.

Although I agree with most of the criticisms, just saw the movie today, I do appreciate seeing a young black girl be a main lead in movie. Plus the acting wasn't bad on marsai, issa and regina's just the script cause you know will packer isn't that great. By the way black women don't have a problem with black men dating white women, it's when you do and then drag black women. Also her name is Issa Rae and she is doing great things in the media for black people a little show on HBO called Insecure. Great review though still love you guys!

IDK why Korey & Martin are surprised the movie was going to be bad, you could tell that from the trailers. I liked Regina Hall ever since Scary Movie (even though she typically plays the stereotypical "loud angry black woman" role) & to me, Tiffany Haddish is a new knockoff version of her.

spoils throughout: I watched it and didn't like the pedophilia jokes(they did it with 2 different adults in the movie). I just didn't feel like it was appropriate or that they needed it. I get they were trying to copy that aspect of 13 going on 30, but in that movie, it still maintained the optics of her as an adult, even though she had the mind of a kid. The joke doesnt translate in this version where we physically see the age change. I dont like playing that for laughs it just creeped me out everytime it was done. In general the move was fairly bland. It was disney sitcom level quality, and not big screen quality. The exposition right off the bat was so ham handed that I found my self shocked at how bad the writing was since that was what it opened with. (spoiler: she literally just explains that "I'm going to be the bully when I grow up, because I was bullied.") This is bad writing for 2019, and it seems like too many black movies (like tyler perry and girls trip) always seem to have mediocre themes and writing. Especially if its woman, then its guaranteed to not even feel remotely modern or funny, and may be riddled with stereotypes as well. I realized that the person who edited the trailer would have probably made a better director/writer for the movie. They corrected all the issues with the pacing, and made it seem like a much more put together movie than it actually was. Even my favorite joke from the trailer managed to be boring once I saw the full scene. I get that only a kid produced it, but if they wanted to truly help her see the project through, they should have done a less sloppy job with its actual execution and critiqued and made edits for a refined final story. there were moments that didn't make any sense, and were just plain inconsistent. For example, the ending. Why were those children there? Why did they start dancing? It was also unclear what the "boss"'s profession was. Looking at the visual cues thrown in your face you would've thought she was in fashion(like the fashion designer from 13 going on 30) and not in tech. I found that extremely distracting. I was not really convinced that any of the people in the company could really do any of the actual work they were acting. The intern's idea pretty much did not make sense conceptually, and the boss did not act like she knew any stem stuff. I thought as a kid she liked science and then grew up to be a fashion designer, not an app developer/ tech company. It was really unclear, and the boss did not speak or make reference to her work for most of the movie. Its like it was written by someone who didn't do any prior research into tech but just wanted to dress up some black actresses and call them tech professionals. this aspect was extremely disappointing and sloppy. I did not feel convinced by any of the middleschool stuff either. The way bullying was proyrayed seemed so outdated and unrealistic. I found myself skeptical, because they didn't really "sell" the idea of the middle school environment well enough, especially for 2019. I also did not really like the joke in the movie where (spoiler from her on)) the adult boss insults this indian lady's kid by calling her a boy and then going on to call her a transgender. There was a subliminal racialized undertone I detected and it felt off. My last issue was some of the fashion. It was so bad, literally all the outfits were bad. I did not like that weird lepard thing issa was wearing. It was hideous. I also did not like regina halls wig in this movie. It looked so bad, and it took me away from the movie because it was unclear whether we as the audience are actually supposed to be in on the terrible style the boss had. Then they made fun of the afro(one of the unrealistic outdated things I was talking about) and there were other black girls with afros in the movie. It felt so culturally disconnected and oblivious. It wouldn't be so bad, but just picture this, time is an important aspect of the story because its an adult going back to middleschool in 2018/9. Hell, the overalls she was wearing in that scene she was made fun of-- that's trending, more than the weird pink suit that everyone gushed over her when she wore it. The taste in humor, in clothes/style, it was just so off. Many people say this is meant to appeal to children. I'm in my 20's and there is no way this would appeal to kids with how culturally disconnected some of the aspects are. And yet its still to poorly executed for adults. This just means they themselves are confused about their target audience. Many times the acting was extremely bad. Like in the beginning of the movie, during the horrible exposition, the parents spoke like robots, as did Marsai. It was a really bad intro, I can't emphasize it enough. I also felt like the story jumped all over the place so much, that by the time we got "resolution" they ended up feeling rushed as they didn't have a proper build up. The scene where the nerds finally show their stuff? That scene was so anticlimatic and disappointing. I didn't really feel like the situations were fleshed out properly, yet the movie was also so long. The child protective service lady could've seen the social media posts, but the social media part didnt even go anywhere. It didn't feel like they were finished writing the movie to be honest. And like, feature films are supposed to have a crew that determines the fashion and such, the same way you dress the set. This was the worst wig and fashion ever. And you could really feel the low budget at times, like during scenes where you were supposed to feel hype, they ended up anticlimatic. I give the movie a 2. I still think this was good for Marsai. I hope she learns and grows as an actor. Though if I'm honest I do not watch the show she's from, as I hate sitcoms 90% of the time, and black sitcoms are even worse as they always put steretypes or have colorist setups.

No. It was bad from the beginning. Regina Hall's character was way over top and unbelievable. Cartoonish and unfunny. I wanted to like this film cause I loved the trailer. I tried so hard, but I didn't like it.

All these female reinventions of classical films with male protagonist always bomb because they lack the talent, commitment and weren't trying to push a narrative but rather make an entertaining film.

Only reason I ain't trip on Certain cliches and loose ends of this movie is because I recognize it's attempt to show black ppl in different setting and stories outside of the hood and strip clubs, etc.. its a cool laid back funny family movie.. nothing to be taken too serious or read too deep into.

Not sure of what to think . The main adult character is a " bossy , cool, sexy , beautiful looking woman " . Who turns into her kid version . Who looks as " Little Ugly , Nerdy Betty " . And behaves as her pretty , sexy adult version .
