I remember these cars with great affection. My older brother had one and he loved it even though it gave trouble from time to time mostly with the dynastart. Great to see there are a few that have survived. I note with particular interest the registration of your car.

That's the sort of car I'd like to have as my first car, a little pal. A great story, thanks ever so much for posting this up!

Looks like the little Steyr Puch engine that was used in the Austrian version of the Fiat 500, and also the later version of the 3-wheeled British disability car, the Invacar.

Worked well on behalf of John Glenn, anyway, who owned one at the time he was selected as one of the original Mercury 7 astronauts.

This is much later than a 1963 car. The front panel trim strip is 1969 or later.

When I was in grade 7 my homeroom teacher showed up for work in a '63 Prinz and I thought that was the buggy to beat the beetle but then VW came out with the 1500 and NSU lost its N. American market.

Chevolet Corvair mini?
@TaketotheRoad
@TaketotheRoad 6 лет назад
Yeah you could say that actually. The Corvair borrowed from many Euro based rear engine cars. But was a lot bigger of course.

The NSU Prinz that I had the engine was a 2 cylinder 500cc not 900cc as this guy says they did do a 1000cc but that had 4 cylinders and the car was a bit bigger.

It was actually 600cc. I had one. Year 1964, I think.

Yup the Hillman Imp was a rival and shared a lot of similarities with the NSU Prinz.
