@@HParadoxa and that's insane to me. I'd go ape sh*t. Not disabled so I can't even BEGIN to get it. All I know is that as a black woman, I get peeved about someone touching my hair w/o permission. I couldn't imagine what I'd do if someone tried to pick me up 🙄

I remember one time in highschool a girl said “omg your hair is so pretty” I turned around and she was still holding onto it. I was like, thanks but can u let go? Lmao she kept holding it. She was black. Very weird and uncomfortable . I can’t imagine people running around doing that to her

I don’t have dwarfism but people often thought I have it because I had really staggered growth and am still quite small today (4’10) and kids used to call me midget, slap my head or hair style when it was styled up because it was so within reach, all the time, and it really did make me feel like I was part of circus, entertainment, or too cute to have a personality or a different species who required less humane interaction with.

Same happens to me, and happened to my mom too. I'm 4'10 and she is 4'11. I'm in highschool and still get treated like a child because I just so happen to be the height of a middle schooler. Its so degrading and insulting to be honest. I hate being called "Cute" by the same people who are literally the same age as me- but they would be considered beautiful.

I wasn't aware of the "M" word as a negative thing until a few years ago. I just looked up the definition and the source didn't seem to imply that. As in any use of a word, if it is used in a negative way to degrade a person, then it isn't acceptable. Thanks for helping all of us understand things better.

Right, I always thought it was a medical term. I always thought dwarfism refered to someone with a normal sized torso and shorter limbs (like people with achondroplasia), and the m word refered to someone who was proportionally small. I suppose that’s just another form of dwarfism though

It used to mean just miniature people, but people started associating the word with the use of little people for entertainment that was usually demeaning/dehumanizing.

My parents generation used midget and dwarf interchangeably. I used to watch a lot of the shows on TLC and have read a decent amount about dwarfism so when I learned that midget is now considered offensive, I told my mom because she works with the public. I'd hate for her to unknowingly offend someone thinking that she's using the correct terminology. But I agree with Cristian. In almost any circumstances, there's no need to refer to someone by their characteristics. Just call them by their name. People don't go around saying "hey average height person!" It's kind of silly that these things are even an issue. If we could all learn how to treat others how we want to be treated these problems wouldn't exist.

I'm 4'10" and I don't have dwarfism but I have been called the m word alot. I usually just very nicely tell people not to call me it because it is offensive. And I guess I am on the tall end of it from what I read. That is where I laughed. Kids gets curious though when you are an adult and the same height as them so they ask a ton of questions. I just answer them as best as I can. But when I was walking through my nieces school for kindergarten graduation I never so great as I did then. I was amungst people my own height, it was great.

I saw Vern Troyer aka "mini me" in Las Vegas 2006. Exception, he had a body guard pick him up take him to mens room. The guy held him to height so he could pee what a G he was. I peed next to him. Then he was carried back to a vip table of beautiful women.

More people need to see this. I had a roommate once that had no care for little people. He played if off like, no I dont hate them. Then posts snapchats of him giggling and secretly recording them. I used to tell him you need to stop, they are just people trying to live their lives. Then he was a bellman at a hotel holding a little person convention. I saw his snaps from that first day and ripped him a new one that night for being such an insensitive prick. Let alone breaking confidentiality laws by revealing the guests staying at that hotel. The same way people shouldn't assume a black man is criminal. We should be smart enough to know people with dwarfism do not exist to be a joke.

When he says to talk with him like any normal person and don't bother his height or anything reminded me a funny scene in last year. There was a shop close to our school and my home. I frequently went there with my father or with my friends. Once i got asked if I'm some kind of nurse because I'm always with a blind man(my father) or with a wheelchair girl(my classmate). And that realised me that for me it is the most basic thing to be with them but for someone else it is strange.

This a wonderful video! Im 4'3, with multiple epiphyseal dysplasia (MED). My mom and grandma and I are the only ones in the family with it. Its very important that people understand that where just humans trying to live our lives as well. We're no different than you all just bite sized 😌🤣

I have a job where I am in contact with thousands of people every year. I get to interact with them for 20 minutes or more. Everyone has become an individual to me when I walk up to them. I love to talk to them I love to find out about them and see how I can connect with them. Every human is a human to me. I no longer see that they are different than I. I see that they are the same as I. They're a living breathing human beings such as I. It's truly that simple and that is simply the truth

honest question from a rather tall person (184cm which is roughly 6 feet). How do I talk to a little person? Do I kneel down? I can imagine that staring up all the time gets rather uncomfortable but I wouldn't want to be offensive by kneeling to get to a more comfortable height. So what would be most appropriate?

Just talk to them how you would with any person or you could ask them if it ok for you to kneel down but yeah just talk to them as you were with any person.
