Drone views of the Longaberger Basket factories and the Homestead show a glimpse of what once was a big manufacturing facility and tourist attraction. Also empty is the nearby seven-story, 180,000 big basket office building.

Been collecting old Longaberger since 1994. Love the original baskets and pottery. After Dave passed, those two girls of his couldn't keep it going. Dave had the vision, the drive, and the motivation. I have hundreds of baskets, and use all of them throughout my home and business.

As a former basketmaker from 1997-2007 thank you for buying my/our handmade baskets. I have many in my home that I've personally made and will always cherish them. Dave had a great thing going. He was quite a guy. His business helped me earn a good living and get started in life as a young adult, buy a house, car, independence, etc.. Not many manufacturing jobs could compare to the Longaberger Company.

The old homestead could become the LARGEST Amish goods flea market employing bakers, cheese makers, etc. It is so sad to see the properties just falling into ruin. Neither Tami Lonagberger or Licking County have the ability to keep this national treasure alive.

There used to be so much life and thriving business there. They were going to expand into an entire city. Within 6 months they went from record sales to downscaling and closing.

What if they turned the homestead and barn area into shops and restaurants and built a movie theater with an early American façade and the basket into a luxury hotel
@1320pass
@1320pass Год назад
It already had that. Used to be a great place to visit. But now the outside companies that moved into the buildings want nothing to do with it. They see it as a liability rather than the assets and potential it has.

This is a textbook example of a company that didn’t keep up with technology. They didn’t have a digital presence and so they died. With intelligence they would still be in business with online shopping. The crime is that we currently have a housing shortage and no one has redeveloped this vast estate.

I think they should make apartments or do something with the homestead.

I think people just slowly lost interest in buying baskets. They were really expensive, people had purchased lots of them. People that bought them got older. Some of the products were being made overseas. Lastly some of the consultants had people working under them were broken up. They obviously went elsewhere ! I know of no major basket factory replacing them, that tells you a lot of this was a fad !

After reading the Longaberger book this is very sad to see knowing the history of this company and its founder.

So the mattress company, Malouf: went down and sold the building. Ridge corporation, where I work, was the blue building that wasn’t seen in any shots, which is right by fanatics. They just bought building a, the one seen with the flag pole and the brick entrance 1:26. Just an update for those who are curious

Longaberger is discussed like it was akin to Bethlehem Steel or something. Gee, expensive baskets are not a sustainable business - whaaaaaaaaat?!

It wasn't just the basket making, but the tourism and the companies who made accessories. True, it wasn't a huge corporation, but it was a huge supplier of jobs to the area.

@@russellstephan6844 I wouldn't call 1973 to 2017 a "fad". I would call you an asshat. People sold their souls for cheap CCP garbage and that's all we're left with.

No. It would fall into disaster. I have not seen one homeless community yet that was clean and kept up. If people are not invested they don't take care of. It would take a staff of hundreds of people to maintain this place behind the homeless and who's going to pay for that? This needs to be turned into a tourist attraction to bring money into the state...

How could this not spark the heart of someone who truly cares about the homeless etc. What’s the problem???🤷‍♀️🇺🇸USA???🇺🇸🤔

@Ashley Richards No. The homestead is on Raiders road (old route 16) in Frazeysburg where all baskets were made.

The baskets were very nice, but way over-priced! Too much expansion, too fast without a solid, well thought-out financial plan. Too bad. Central Ohio lost a lot of jobs, when this happened.

What kinda people don't use baskets? Is it the handle that gets in the way? Cause Longaberger basket handles are adjustable and collapse down the sides hence one of the many reasons they are the standard luxury basket.
