Wow, James Brown was his vocalist, Jimi Hendrix his guitar player and Billy Preston keyboard. Then he took the Beatles on tour with him before anybody knew who they were. What a powerful history indeed.
Little Richard is Hilarious, he was born to be a great and fun entertainer. He's very funny, fun, very charismatic, very positive and jovial person. Just love his awesome personality and wonderful laughter
Marseno 214 yeah, a fabulous entertainer. Loved his audience and it showed. He was proud of who he was. No one was going to change that. Extremely unique and everyone was influenced by him. I think Prince was very similar . Effeminate but Little Richard more of a people person.
Marseno 214 😃I love Little Richard what a wonderful person, I wish the world had more people in it just like him! Such a beautiful loving spirit, kind, peaceful and funny etc.The world has so much to learn! Blessings! 😇😇😇
@@robincrawley311 Hi Robin, I love Little Richard too and I absolutely agree with everything you said. Little Richard is very special, one of a kind individual with such great joy, exuberance, zest for life and fun and laughters, great positive, jovial energy that most of us wish to have such a wonderful person like him as a friend. Lol I never get tired of him saying "Shut up", so funny the way he says it with that sassy atttitude. Thanks for reading. Have a fantastic day/night.
Marseno 214 You Are So Welcome! I Love Your Comment, it was So True! What a Beautiful Soul Little Richard Was/Is! He was Delightful, Ooooh I Wish I had the Privilege to meet him, I could have Listened and Learned From Him For Hours. Have a Blessed & Beautiful Day!🌞. 😇😇😇
I’m watching this video on the day Little Richard died (May 09, 2020) and just awed by how much he thanks God in this video. Constant praise. And it made me realize that while God didn’t give Little Richard everything he wanted, he allowed him to see his music and music from the 1950’s come back around again and become re-appreciated, in a better way than it was when it was new. He outlived so many 1st generation rock and roll singers and never left God. Inspirational. I hope an updated movie is made about his life, reflecting that along with his music.
He was Bible scholar who studied in my hometown, he was studying to be a preacher in Huntsville Alabama. My sister and I "found" his grave which is about 15 miles from my current home. It's in Huntsville Alabama. Beautiful cemetery. We went there as part of my birthday celebration! I love Little Richard's faith and humble last place of rest with the Lord. We "found" his grave and visited two weeks ago. May the souls of the faithful departed enjoy eternal rest Brother Richard!
Unfortunately the Liberals in Hollywood would NEVER allow a video about a black man that stopped being gay, especially being in the name of Jesus Christ.
Whoever published this, please keep this available for future viewing. Little Richard was beautiful inside & out, with or without makeup. He outlived Michael & Prince... imagine that. And he died a believer in Jesus! What a life.
Unbelievable, he overcame hate, violence and abuse to become the epitome of the American dream. Through his music he turned evil into love and hardships into joy. God blessed the world with his beloved son Richard who gave us all the gift of Rock ‘n’ Roll. I can only imagine his show in heaven, first thing I do when it’s my time is to get my ticket.
This is the best Little Richard interview that I've seen. God bless him and his wonderful memory and plain-spoken, forthrightness. Tom Snyder could really bring the best out of folks.
The man was entitled and had a right to feel about himself and life any way he wanted. And he has no one to stand before, or kneel in front of, but God now. The God he knew was real, and feared, and did his humanly-best to respect, even though he failed Him daily as we all do. Rest In Peace, Little Richard. Heaven is rockin’ & rollin’ with praises filled with “Wooooooooo’s!” right now 💯
This is one if the more intelligent and genuine interviews with Mr. Richard. I appreciate how Mr. Snyder was honest and open about how racism was in America. Unfortunately it still exist.
@@johnmarino5378 , Racism hasn't overcome its hatred and no one gives a damn but the demons that hate. As a black man, I will continue to stand tall and keep it moving that is the strength of Blk culture.
until he says ''shut up!''.which is also contagious. hilarious. he was one of the very last, true Rock & Roll legends. and after his initial popularity waned a bit, and he toured on the strength of his catalog in the early-mid 60's, he hired (and occasionally fired) Jimi Hendrix
and he has also mentioned more than once, that he thanked God for ELVIS, because it took a white boy to make R&R popular, and ELVIS covered Richard's songs on his albums, which makes any songwriter happy (royalties $$).EP's 'Ready Teddy' still rocks like hell 60 yrs. later(sorry, Lord).
It’s crazy how Little Richard is quintessentially America. He’s religious, he’s gay, he survived Jim Crow, he was the architect of Rock N Roll, he’s literally The Godfather of all modern music after blues.
Little Richard was a force to be reckoned with..just look at Prince..MJ and just compare Little Richard and the Late great Otis Reddings voice. Little Richard left his mark on a lot of artist..rest in peace.
@@thiery1417 Both the Beatles and the Rolling Stones admitted that they emulated the old black US musicians from the 40s and 50s at the begin of their careers. .
Could you imagine being Little Richard and experiencing his life. He broke thru the racist white southern rule for the black men. Losing you father over a peanut machine holding 50 cents. To having the Beatles want to meet you. Jimi Hendrix his guitar player. Billy Preston playing the organ for him at the age of 14. You just can't make this stuff up. Man, could this man tell a story. I could listen to his stories all day long.
@@tangobango9653 You got that right. I walk or drive everyday and I see young people who have no clue to where the music of today originated from. Most likely have very little interest or knowledge of American music history. They have no idea of how it changed the way we see our world. The impact of guys like LT Richard had a enormous historical value. RIP my friend..
The Beatles adored him. When they covered Little Richard on their albums, they created a whole new introduction to a new generation of kids. I’m so glad they loved him so that we could really know him and love him also.
I'm from San Bernardino, CA. In 1966-67, my boyfriend's dad was a SDA minister and he and Little Richard preached at revivals together. Right around the time if Richards conversion.
I LOVEEEE when he says "I was black and gay, I wasn't no threat to no white man with the white women, they liked me!" And those words that will forever be engraved in my mind ... "I'm not conceited, I'm convinced!" God Bless such a happy, talented yet modest soul. We need more people like him in this world....just plain old happy all the time and sharing that beautiful joy.
Richard Penneman was always a great interviewer. He has the joy and fun spirit in his heart that reaches out with honesty. I think Prince tried to emulate his appearance but there is only one Little Richard. Love this interview. ty
Michael Had a Heart of Gold. Pure. Never Will There Be An Angel Who Was Given to The World By The Almighty to Help The Less Fortunate and. Sick. Why Does The Media Not Talk About The Magnitude of His Help For Charities Around The 🌎. Huh......?
Love this guy since I was 12 years old. I was a kid in NY and snuck into the subway to go to Times Square by myself to go buy his music. I got lost on the way home and got into so much trouble, but it was worth it . I got a few records and photos too. I always wanted to meet him for so many years and finally did last summer near my hotel in Nashville . He was soooo nice to me and my daughter. Long live the KING
He is the man . The King !!!! Nobody can touch him ! Nobody ! When he sang everyone knew when he sang . Oh god Pat Boone 😣 little Richard brought black and white together . Elvis or nobody could sing his songs . He was a good soul and dynamite talent . Bless you Richard
And RocknRoll is not your Forte Tim obviously . Richard went through hell to get where he was . Elvis had the best of everything . Richard had to fight his way because of his colour
"I've been imitating sister Rosetta Tharp". " She is the one that got me started". I'm glad he mentioned her, The real "king" of rock & roll. Without her there wouldn't be any Rock & Roll.
She was an amazing lady.. The video of 'Didn't It Rain' is a testament to her ability to get a crowd up on their feet! She's definitely a giant part of the raw electricity that formed Rock N Roll!!
@@alfmac7886 Was it the video where she came to the stage from a horse drawn carriage, in the rain? That's a great video but did you notice the really Uncool and Very terrible thing about it? I didn't see One person of color in the entire audience! :( Not one!
@@wingwaves940 Yes that is terrible, but I think she was playing in Europe (England?) In that clip.. The English were not as backwards as America and embraced R&B, Blues and Jazz artists with open arms. (Just checked and she's playing in Chorltonville, Manchester England)
OF COURSE LITTLE RICHARD WAS A GREAT RHYTHM & BLUES ( ROCK ' N ' ROLL ) ALSO GOSPEL MUSIC SINGER & PIANIST. HOWEVER , CHUCK BERRY , BO DIDDLEY , FATS DOMINO , JERRY LEE LEWIS , BILL HALEY *( WHO WAS HAVING HITS BEFORE E. PRESLEY OR LITTLE RICHARD. OTHER ARTISTS BUDDY HOLLY , GENE VINCENT , EDDIE COCHRAN RICHIE VALENS. JERRY LEE LEWIS WAS THE WILDEST OF THEM ALL , PLUS HE WAS & IS A MUCH BETTER PIANO PLAYER !! IN THE U.K. & EUROPE THE SAYING WAS ROCK 'N ' ROLL 'S THE THING & JERRY LEE 'S THE KING !! DON 'T GET ME WRONG ----- I HAVE MANY L. RICHARD RECORDS IN MY COLLECTION ---- PLUS C. BERRY & FATS DOMINO ETC. JOHN PEARCE IN U.K.
Been watching a lot of Little Richard footage since he passed and this is my favourite interview. More of the hard life when he was younger comes out and makes you appreciate how far his talent threw him. The music cannot die.
When James Brown passed away Little Richard said "Before him there wasn't and after him there will never be." The same can be said of you as well Richard. You were as unique as unique can be. RIP
Little Richard was Real. I loved his music. He was authentic. Yes, he was effeminate and people loved him because he was Real. He actually was a very handsome man. He was unique! One of a kind. Prince was a modern day Little Richard. He was Confident. Unique personality.
He was gay, not a feminist, he was most, an incredible man that always walked and spoke his truth. Yes, The Beatles loved him, as they loved, Chuck Berry, that's where they got their Soulful beat. All incredible musicians. They sure don't make music like these fine men did. Little Richard was Born to be a STAR!! GOD BLESS HIM!🙏🙏♥️♥️
Ruby Redd yes you are correct. I should have said effeminate. Being effeminate doesn’t always mean ones gay though. It could have been an act but doubt it. It doesn’t matter anyhow, he was able to communicate to an audience.
Ruby Redd did you know that Little Richard had a son? I just found out. Although not unusual for gay men to have kids too. He was incredible personality! His famous saying “ Oh Shut Up ! “
Great to see Richard toss off names like Elmore James, Sonny Boy Williamson, and Guitar Slim, his contemporaries that are largely unknown to the mass audience today.
Every Little Richard sentence used to tell a story had another story behind it. A unique man who lived an extraordinary life. I think you could have invited him to dinner and let him stay a week just to continue the conversation. If you listen to later interviews it sounds like he found peace and happiness. I hope so. He surely brought a lot of happiness to us.
I am very grateful to see Little Richard in this interview with Tom Snyder. A wonderful show, I just love this living legend. Now in regards to Little Richard washing pots and pans at that Greyhound bus station, I got a secret to tell from my grandma when scrubbing stuck on food. You put water in the pot, dishwashing liquid, and place it on the stove, you use med. heat and let it simmer for 30 min. The pot will be easier to clean.
I also learned a hack for getting stuck on gunk off pans. It's simply this: put a drop or two of dish soap in the pot and used dryer sheet with warm water. It does something to the residue.
I so love Little Richard but I wish he would tell me what it was like being with the great Jackie Wilson he too was a great entertainer. I feel so many has forgotten him
Love the way He explodes in laughter. It's contagious. What a personality. Such a sparkling energy. I'd love to have a conversation with him and laugh a lot.
This was a great interview with Richard....I recorded it on a VHS tape that night....he was very down-to-earth and Tom did an excellent job with his interview, love all the stories about the Beatles touring with him ....miss both of these gentlemen....Rest In Peace Tom Snyder and Little Richard : (((((💜💜
I loved Tom Snyder - he was the best interviewer of all time. I still miss him to this day. Little Richard - omg - what a great man. Loved him, too. This is a fabulous interview - 2 greats together.
So, so true. I miss hosts like Snyder. He did his homework. And he let the guest answer the questions, and genuinely was interested in their answers. His guests were diverse. Iggy Pop was a guest on his show for goodness sake. Wow.
Tom Synder sounds bias to me and critical of how Little Richard looks. Especially when he says he looks like he is dressed up as Halloween. And he referred to him as color boy when that is old stuff. The identity is either Black or African American. Little Richard waa actually a handsome man even in his makeup. It was mostly for him to look different although he was gay as he admits. I love his music and his talent but glad that he gave his heart to the Lord before he passed almost two weeks ago. RIP talented and gifted man. Your music will live on in every generation.
He was magnificent. Rip little Richard!!! (He had become very religious by the time he died. He had become a serious 7th day Adventist preacher). He was a brilliant artist & a great storyteller!!!
Richard was a delightful man and an incredible talent , a national treasure rest in peace Richard.....thanks for the fun .excitement and art you gave to the world..
RIP to the central figure in pop culture: in George Harrison's words, "It's all his fault." Nobody -- not Elvis, nobody -- was as determinative. We would have had a form of rock -- it would have been intense, and it would have crossed ethnic lines -- but the radical, performative, flamboyant, glam, punk energy -- THAT wouldn't have happened. So: no Prince, no Bowie, no Hendrix, no Stones, no Kanye, no Queen, no Iggy Pop, no VU (indeed maybe no Warhol), no disco, no hiphop, no Beatles, who began as a leather band in German whorehouses. The transgressive thing would have been absent. It all would have Clapton, the Beach Boys, Ike and no Tina... Jazz would have had a far bigger role, and country. He was an absolutely amazing person, to think of this and do it.
Love this interview. At 12:03 we learn the original lyric: "Tutti Frutti" was not followed by "aw rooty." Interesting that Little Richard is 64 but looks much younger than 60-yr-old Snyder. Loved Tom's way of interviewing and Richard's frank and still-so-confident answers. He was truly a pioneer of 20th century music.
The man was legendary even before his accolades and awards.. A living breathing black unicorn! My life was made so much more colorful and vibrant knowing this man's wonderful music.. RIP and God Speed to Mr.Richard Penniman's beautiful soul!! There will never be another like him.
Little Richard and I have so much in common. We both experienced the second slavery and our fathers sold bootleg liquor to feed the family because sharecropper slaves never received pay for their labor. Little richard overcame so many obstacles. He was truly blessed. Thank God 🙏
I loved, and still love Little Richard and I always will. I’m especially fond of Elvis Presley and it’s so refreshing to hear him give Elvis respect he deserves. Richard will always, to me, be missed.
