From “My name is Jinkx Monsoon, I’m 24 and I’m Seattle’s youngest MILF” to this… Jinkx has always held a special place in my heart, and I couldn’t be happier for her, and prouder of her journey.
Aww! That’s a man sweetie, not a trans person but way to go the extra mile and show the rest of us that you’ll drink your kool-aid like a good little boy.
Did you watch Jinkx’s early RU-vid skits while the season aired!? I was obsessed with how entertainingly talented this queen was so young. I need to rewatch them fr! I can only think of the skit around fast food customers I probably watched far too many x’s to still remember💀
@@DeezN00tz99 I did become homeless and I'm also on disability. I finally got HUD housing after a couple of years on the waiting list. Just a small dingey studio apartment. Better than being homeless, but I can never get married either. This is where I'm stuck now forever.
I got to see Jinx perform with my husband and this song had us both tearing up. Theres something raw and real and familiar in Audrey's dream to us, as a pair of queers who grew up poor. The idea of a dishwasher or a garbage disposal was genuinely fancy for me as a kid, and now as an adult, owning a home seems so far away. And I don't really know where I'm going with this, and I know this song and the whole musical is a comedy, but there's just something that really hit me, hearing her sing this and feeling a lot of the same feelings Audrey feels. May we all find our little green place someday.
Perfectly put. I was blessed to play Seymour years ago and absolutely fell in love with the character of Audrey. I sing this song (to myself and the wind) all the time... and more times than not end up in tears. I guess I still hold out hope for that somewhere...
In comedy, pathos , longing and true desires have perhaps more resonance . We laugh at and with the character which can then make their revelations more meaningful
I’m a single mom, and a home of my own for my daughter and I seems like such a distant dream. Nevermind meeting a nice guy who loves my kiddo as much as I do… So this song gets me right in the GUT 😮💨That’s the beauty of this song, and every other musical masterpiece…it fits into so many scenarios and hits many different people in the heart for many different reasons ❤️🩹
Yes, a beautiful interpretation of a song I have loved and heard so many times that I couldn't imagine ever experiencing it as "new". I had no desire to compare it to the renditions I knew; I just wanted to see where Jinx was taking it. Brava!
I demand 1 : A new cast album featuring Jinkx 2 : A filming of this production for release in Cinemas worldwide for those of us who cannot travel to NY in time 3 : DVD/Blu-ray/Streaming after the Cinema release Never thought I would say this, but... 4 : A remake of the Movie staring Jinkx
This is a genuine question, Jinkx Monsoon appeared on RuPauls Drag Race. Isn't the whole point of drag that it's males dressing as females (or vice versa)? If Jinkx Monsoon is female doesn't that mean she had no right to appear on the show in the first place? Apart from that this is a fantastic version of one of my favourite songs.
@@mickram23 drag as an art form has always had trans women pioneering it. Drag is a lot more nuanced than just the typical idea of cross dressing, it's performance art which centers themes of gender. It can be used to celebrate femininity/masculinity and point out the way which those two are social constructions and not biological ones. Like a drag king will walk and move like a man, but seeing a cis woman do that makes you realize how that is learned behavior and not stemming from "nature" or biology. Drag can celebrate gender like in Jinkx's case where her inspiration is obviously people like Judy Garland, Patti Lupone and other old school divas. In her performances you can see how she celebrates the gendered way in which they hold themselves. Basically drag is a very broad concept but most people only know it as "man in a dress" but there's a lot more nuance in it if you study the history of drag performance. Hope this makes sense to you.
Jinkx is trans-femme, I believe, but nevertheless drag can be performed by trans women, cis women, non-binary people, cis males, whatever… It is not just simply men in a dress. 😉
Wow... I've heard this sung by so many other performers but this is like hearing it for the first time. I never quite GOT how sad and touching it is that she yearns for such simple things that we all take for granted in our lives... but to Audrey is a dream. Truly so gorgeous and earnest and DAMN what i would do to see Jinxy's full performance on Broadway 😭😭😭
I saw it. Twice. Got a stage door pic with Jinkx and everything. Jinkx was a wonderful Audrey - heartbreaking, hilarious, vulnerable, edible. It’s always worth the effort to see her perform in person.
Damn, I'm always impressed when people can sing with such emotion without it compromising their voice control. Like even when it's supposed to sound iffy she knows exactly how to let a note waver or let her voice crack so that it pulls on your heart strings instead of sounding like a mistake.
The beauty of this performance really lies in how lost in the idea of pure happiness comes and then the sudden return to reality we get. Jinkx really allows themselves to get lost and brings the joy in Audrey up until the character remembers that this is just a daydream, not something that could possibly happen to her. The acting is so on point and its honestly something I am so saddened that I'll never get to see in person. This is one of my favorite musicals and Seymore is one of my dream roles to play. I'm so glad we even got to see this on stage
WHO IS THIS BRILLIANT WOMAN??? I only just discovered Jinkx Monsoon, but she is insanely talented. Little Shop of Horrors is a wonderful musical & film. Though, I have to admit, despite feeling deeply for Audrey's situation, no performance of her character, of this beautiful song, has ever genuinely brought me to the verge of tears. This broke my heart in the best way. The talent this woman has is otherwordly- not to mention, I'm OBSESSED with her entire aesthetic! I, too, have an affinity for the darker side of fashion & she wears it BEAUTIFULLY. She is slaying existence. I must follow her on all platforms👑 I officially stan!!! 🖤💐
You can find her debut on Ru Paul's Drag Race. She's perhaps less commonly known by her male name Hera Hoffer. She's a drag performer who is genuinely brilliant.
I had heard others talk about Jinkx Monsoon's talent but now I'm lucky enough to have seen it for myself. To sing this with heartache and touches of comedy and with such vocal skill ... genius. Surely one of the great performers of our age.
I had the privilege to see this show live last week. Jinkx was the reason I went, but every single actor on that stage and behind was incredible. Bravo!
Ohhhh Jinkx. I think this is the best I've ever heard you sing. And that's saying something. Branch and flower as ever, you buoyant, sterling dynamo🤩🥰😍😘
She's a comic belter. Give her an Ethel Merman or Carole Channing show, she'll blow your miiiiinds. Somebody put her in "Mame", she'd destroy as Vera Charles.
I’ve felt the lyrics of this many times in my life, and means a lot to see it played out on stage from a person I relate to. What does it feel like to be lovers with a guy but only in secret, while all your friends parade around school with their girlfriends and boyfriends? What does it mean to grow older, seeing your friends settle down, get houses, marry, have kids, knowing that this probably isn’t on the cards for you as a queer person. It’s so interesting that this song was written for a woman, but these are also feelings that lgbt people have felt for centuries. Talent aside, I think that’s why this performance is so outstanding.
I adore Ellen Greene’s version and I play the Broadway soundtrack when I clean my home. This auto played for me today ❤ I’m so happy it did 🌷 Well done Jinx ✨ you have done an excellent job 💕 x
I've loved this musical for a long time and I've always loved how performers and the audience interpret Audrey. The things that always stick out in my mind are these interpretations: Ellen Greene's Audrey sings this song with a deep seated belief that it'll never come true. Kerry Butler's Audrey is more optimistic, honestly believing it can happen for her some day. But what they both have in common is they don't seem ashamed to be believing this when singing it to the chorus girls. Jinkx did something I've never seen since I got the feeling her Audrey seems embarrassed to be dreaming of this, like she's beneath it. Leave it to Jinkx to bring something so brand new to a role that's so beloved.
I've heard this so many times from different performers over the decades. They've just managed to completely revitalise a well trodden song like it's the first time I've ever heard it!
OMG!!! What a performance! Literally crying right now...I never thought I'd love anyone else playing Audrey other than Ellen Greene, but after this performance...
Jinkx’s life dream is a gain for Broadway and the West End. A treasure for us in the audiences and between Alex Newel and Lady Monsoon, the world witnesses the fantastic revival of an art form that has long been uncelebrated. BRAVA! MOLTO BRAVA!!
No one will ever wipe the memory of Ellen Green's transcendent rendering of this song, but My God, this comes close. This is amazing and had me on the edge of tears... so real and touching!
There is something about this rendition that plucked every heartstring and brought me to tears. You are a force, Jinx. You are ground-breaking. You are a special human.
Amazing. I've always been impressed by how this song needs a such a powerful voice that's obviously being held and controlled so much throughout and Jinkx nailed it.
So, I'm from Barcelona, and I've never seen Jinkx before this video. I heard about the casting and thought "mmm... that looks like a celebrity stunt cast". A participant on a Drag Queen contest... it sounded strange to me, didn't think it'll be a great decision. But boy, oh boy, I was wrong. This is an AMAZING performance. I really think Jinkx makes for a great, great, Audrey.
Just incredible! What a phenomenal talent Jinkx is! So glad she's finally getting her time to shine. She really deserves this and has worked so hard for so long! Congrats Jinkx! Wish I could make it to NYC to see you
Jinkx my husband and I saw you in late April in little shop. You were everything we hoped so see. You have extreme talent, you’re a force to be reckoned with. We love you!
I need this on Broadway, People need to hear this, this needs a Tony nom, this deserves a Tony win. I have watched this many times over a few days and I can not cry each time.
i saw jinkx monsoon perform this live, and the way she puts so much love and care into her performances is so amazing. she deserves the best, and i'm so happy to see her as audrey, she was AMAZING 💗💗
Only heard of her in passing until I saw that episode of the new Doctor Who season, but she has a very Bette Midler vibe with how she speaks and carries herself. I like that.
Howard Ashman was a treasure. If you didn't know there is a documentary on Disney+ called Howard he wrote the Little Shop of Horrors musical and then went on to write the songs in The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin. He unfortunately does of Aids before Beauty and the Beast was released. You are stunning Jinkx.
