For alleged “fans” there sure is a lot of ignorance in the comments. It takes a minute of googling to know this Seymour’s name is Lee Wilkof, he originated the role, he’s a year younger than Ellen and Rick isn’t here because the movie came out in 1986 and this was filmed in 1983. Now can we talk about their talent or are we just gonna repeat “who’s this?” “Why does he look so old” 🙄
@donnalynn2
@donnalynn2 4 года назад
He does look older than her by a lot whether he is or not. Sorry but he can't hold a candle to her. He's God awful. Don't know what the producers were thinking casting him but if I had paid a bunch of money to see him in that role I'd have been pissed.
@KerryLuckett

Thank you, Kelly. I think people lack context for understanding cultural artifacts that existed before they were born.
@Omonohoshi
@Omonohoshi 4 года назад
@@donnalynn2 Actually he can sing. It is because of his looks, that you feel he is a bad singer. And you are making a judgment call that stereotypes a person into a certain role. People on Broadway have paid their dues, regardless of how You feel about it. Anyone who is on Broadway has sometimes waited years. And for the role he plays, he actually is good. IF you look into the history OF the Seymour. He is a bit of a loser, who no one really cares about. So he embodies the role perfectly. Just because YOU probably would not give him the time of day, does NOT mean he is "God awful".
@Omonohoshi
@Omonohoshi 4 года назад
@Parker930 That is a bit harsh. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. You probably would not like some of the music Donna likes, so she just expressed her opinion. While she doesn't really know music...it is still harsh to say anything about someone's appearances, regardless of what they said. Explain why she "missed the point", instead of attacking her. This is so common now, people just telling others to "stfu", instead of leading them to a different opinion. IF you do not have time to be informative, why are you here?
@Omonohoshi
@Omonohoshi 4 года назад
@Parker930 No worries...I felt the same way you do. There were many times I wanted to "clap-back" at peoples' nastiness. But did not. I usually do not post much on RU-vid because of that very fact. That there are way more nastiness than actual good comments. Someone always wants to create drama. I usually scroll past, this time I just couldn't. I have no idea why either, lol. Maybe because Lee Wilkof (thank you Kelly, for the research which I was going to do. :D ) Sounded good to me, of course since I did not see this in '83, and saw only the movie version with Ellen and Rick, I was a bit thrown off, but knowing the Black and White version and the musical '86 version, I thought Lee was perfect for the role of Seymour. Which I explained to Donna. Nothing is ever a waste of time if we are passionate about a subject. Frustrating, yes...many times. lol I feel you a good person (not that you really need my acknowledgement), especially with your post. If you have the knowledge then share it. We are all teacher, regardless if we want to be or not. lol

She's the BEST Audrey, and ALWAYS will be. The original performer in this case is the (& will ALWAYS be) BEST perfomer in the role. And she was great in the movie version too with Rick Moranis. It's absolutely amazing to see Ellen and the other performers doing this performance from the same year the original show was running. It pains me that no video of the actual original play was made. The movie is wonderful but it's really eye-opening to see its true origins in the play.

@@Oncearanger88 I've seen a homemade recording from the bleachers of the original play but it wasn't the original cast. By that point in the run the original cast had been replaced, partly I think because the original cast had gone to do the play in London by then.

I just decided to tap-into u tube Little Shop of Horrors last evening, only to hear and see this SMASHING performance. I AM a musician Myself, and I feel moved by the performance....especially this version of the song Suddenly Seymour! Lol.

I think this performance seems every bit as good as the one with Rick Moranis. This is some good work!

Obviously the people putting down this Gentleman for his looks, age, etc. Have no idea what this song or this play is about. Sing it a little louder Ellen, for the people in the back... "Sweet Understanding!"

Ellen Greene gives me chills in this performance. She did amazing in the 1986 film, but that one? Doesn't compare at all to this performance

An applaud, to the two actors, operating the Audrey to puppet. One with the legs/roots and the other the gigant snout

Agreed, but it was actually just one puppeteer! They used their arms for the pod and their legs for the roots.
