As we head to the central region of Kansas, let us dive deep into a chapter of the story that is American immigration. Throughout the 19th century, news of of the Great Plains' agricultural potential was quite exciting for those who sought new opportunity. The prairie which covered most of the Sunflower state was becoming tilled into rich farmland, and attracted not only Americans from back east, but in addition foreigners willing to make a much longer trek. Communities composed of unified ethnic stock sprung up wherever the next open batch of land remained for settlement, sometimes as a result a whole village would relocate from the Old to New World. Lindsborg was settled by immigrants from west-central Sweden, leaving their homeland for the available area within McPherson County. Although these folk accustomed themselves to the new American way of life, they still held onto their Swedish cultural heritage the best they could with each subsequent generation. Farming and milling became the primary means of life, which isn't surprising at all, since the town acts as an island upon an endless sea of wheat fields, extending far beyond one's visual limits. Walking through this town makes for an easy understanding of how the culture of Lindsborg's founders translates into today's time, as one can near constantly come across the intricately hand-painted Dala horses and other culturally Swedish memorabilia. An intriguing enclave in Kansas, near-invisible to the giant world of tourism, may just be your new favorite small-town destination.

Some insight as to the future of growth in Lindsborg. Theyre actually building out new developments, and just finished building their first community funded early childhood development center to accomandate the growth and rising number of families coming to the town.

Fantastic video! Just got it and couldn't help but watch it. It's a very beautiful town right in the middle of Kansas, and just like you said, it is really well kept and well preserved. It certainly reflects everyone's ownership pride and sense of community. Thanks for a very informative and well done video. Great job and best of lucks always! You really deserve to have a much, much larger audience and I have a hunch based on the quality of your videos, that you will get it much sooner than later.

Yes, sadly there’s a lot in Kansas, too much for one excursion, just like any other state. Someday I’d like not only like to explore the places you mentioned but also some western Kansas destinations like Fort Larned or Dodge City. Long live the Sunflower state!

Do you often see Swedish tourists there? I’m from Sweden but i couldn’t really find any videos of this town in Swedish

ACTUALLY, only a very small handful of Swedish settled here, it was really about 95% German farmers and Lindsborg is not really Swedish and is way over hipped About the only thing there that is Swedish is a small shop making horses

There is some merit to what you say. I did recognize before arriving here that much of central Kansas and the adjacent lands around Lindsborg’s limits were split among many different immigrant stocks, as I also mention in the video. The Swedish were indeed only a small fraction of the total population, yet I will add that approximately 30% of today’s population is of Swedish heritage/origin and many of the traditions are kept alive such as the local Hyllningsfest. When most of America’s Swedish heritage lies up north near the Minnesota/Dakotas area, Lindsborg can still be a fun little capsule of Swedishness in the center of the US worth a showcase.
