Thank you so much. This solved all my problems with a mess of line coming off when I flicked the bail over. I will always do this in the future when respooling mono!
This also worked for me when I went to attach a leader on my braid. #10 line was really curly off the storage / shipping spool so I cut my length, soaked it in hot tap water for 5 minutes and now it's almost straighter than the braid line it's attached to! Thanks!
This does work, also tying your line to something and stretching all the line really good helps and last but not least, Use some line conditioner! Spray it on the night before you are going. The worst times for memory is dead of winter and hot part of summer. I have actually switched over to trilene big game and it for some reason doesn't give me many problems like Many other lines do!
I have one question. Why would you unspool all your line off when the most you ever use is maybe 100 ft. This is what I do. I have a reel i have been using all season so to get ready for next season I will take a rod that has a empty reel on it, I then tie line from the one i have been using to the empty spool and wind it on to the empty one then next season i get rid of it saves on money. :-) But then i don't have spongers furnishing me all my line.
I bought zebco 12lb line, and a new reel on amazon... i spooled it up, and cast a spinnerbait on my yard. MAN oh Man the mess i got on my reel... ill give this a try. THNKS
Same probably im having right now with Zebco ominflex. Cheap but good gosh. The tangles im getting are bad. I get maybe 3 to 4 good casts and i look down line twists like crazy. It just coils up or sometimes just jumps off the reel.
If you're having the trouble as soon as you spool your line up, you probably twisted it as you loaded it on your reel. You can correct this by letting out a long length of line when you're trolling with only a swivel on, or even in a fast running stream, letting it be for several minutes, then reeling it back in. The drag of the water will untwist your line. =)
I’ve accidentally put a whole spool of 6# crappie mono in a pot of water that was on the verge of boiling with smoke rolling off it. It’s fine to this day and I’ve landed plenty of nice fish on it .
Im not trolling mate but you have halved the breaking strain of your line by immersing it in hot water. Line twist is caused by no or poor swivel, and having your drag too light, and winding the handle when line is going out. Ive sold tackle for 20 years and written a couple of books. Dont do it unless you are happy with 8lb test breaking around 4 pounds.
I’m not trolling but you’re wrong. I’d suggest reading books and not writing them. 46 years of experience here, salt and fresh water, 100’s of fishing rods, thousands of fish, dozens of boats, and one wife😂, She’s amazing.
