Video highlights of Jimmy McCulloch's career as a member of Thunderclap Newman, Stone The Crows, Wings and the Small Faces. Coming soon... 'Little Wing: The Jimmy McCulloch Story'... an autobiography by Paul Salley.
He was my school classmate 1966-1969. Very quiet, came back from a Decca audition in London with his brother's band One in a Million, we saw photos of him meeting the Stones. Impressed. A cut single was terrible tosh but in 1969 there he was with Thunderclap Newman with one of the top singles of the 60s. Yes, one hit wonder but cracking. Then Wings in mid 70s. If he hadn't joined them we'd still have him around. It opened doors, big doors. McCartney could handle that stuff easily, Jimmy couldn't. Jimmy is the only guy to have stand alone compositions on any Beatle & Solo album & Paul doesn't do that & allowed him to perform it. A great honour & must have earned a few million now in composition rights. Nice knowing you Jimmy.
He wasn’t the only one to have a stand alone composition Denny Laine did as well, although Jimmy was the first as Denny’s before then where written with Paul.
I didn't know nothing about Jimmy until i was watching the repair shop on tv when his relation came on to have his Platinum Discs cleaned up. I googled him straight away and found him here on RU-vid. It broke my heart, but also filled me with so much pride finding out he was one of us [Scottish] and from my home city of Glasgow playing in one of if not the BIGGEST bands on the planet alongside One of the Biggest musicians on the planet. Yet he was so COOL and took it all in his stride when once asked how it felt to be playing along side a music legend, Paul Mc.Cartney. His reply was, nothing really, i just go out there and do my stuff and let the crowd see what i can do..... Great answer.!!! So pleased i found him as i'll never forget "WEE JIMMY" and he was only 5 years older than myself. But what makes it even more special is, that BAND ON THE RUN was the first album i ever bought and i still have it, but knew nothing about jimmy being the lead guitarist.. It's even more special to me now. Keep rockin up there wee man. 🎸🎸♥
Jimmy McCulloughs guitar playing is eternally fabulous...great feel and vibrato, great tone, truly one of the finest..RIP Jimmy and thanks for the great music
@@toothbrush5190 Jimmy was barely 16 when he joined Thunder.New. in '69. He was my classmate & like me left at 15, I joined UK Armed Forces & there's me enjoying Thunderclap & not seeing them on any media & then on tv boosh💥 I saw them & Jimmy. Gob-smacked. Same again with Wings. Very impressed. Doing heavy drugs stupid boy.
Why does it always come down to drugs and comments about him and drugs. He was so much more than that. in my very humble opinion we should be celebrating what he achieved in his short life and not dwelling on his untimely death. Jimmy McCulloch was a genius.
true but he was full of pain and had his demons like the rest of us...what a shame his death was..someone should of helped and did an intervention...what fair weather friends the McCartney and that wife he had were....Denny tooo...stop glorifying these people.....we need to talk about and know how and why Jimmy died....there is nothing wrong with it...he was human just like the rest of us...a shame he never bothered to get married and have children what a gorgeous man ..just like his Brother Jack...
@@annaleonardi6299 McCartney and that wife of his ? Shame on you from everything ive read she was a great wife and mother . im trying to be nice hear but what a Bitch you are the poor lady died of breast cancer shame on you !!!
Jimmy was gorgeous his Brother Jack was too...however like in many photos and shows and interviews JIMMY IS HIGH AS FUCK HERE....I must say he always looked sexy high....
Thank You So Much Mark for posting this Amazing Picture Video, for our viewing pleasure! "Something in the Air" is a perfect song to go along for the ride........Again, TYVM
His soloing in 'Junior's Farm' and 'Maybe I'm Amazed' was just brilliant. He also played on my all time favourite record, 'Something in the Air', when he was only 16. I remember Jimmy's talent very fondly. Absolutely tragic what happened to him. RIP Jimmy.
His playing in everything is amazing!! :D So awesome that you remember him! Ever see him play live? Now THAT would have been something of a VERY fond memory!! :D
Amen and he was gorgeous like his Brother Jack NO one seemed to help Jimmy nor have him sent to rehab this is a disgrace;;;;Money does NOT bring true happiness God bless his soul and his family....God bless you and yours
He wasn't ready for the Big Doors that McCartney's wake opened. He'd still be with us otherwise health permitting & I'd be able to say "Jimmy, not seen you since our school days mate.." & he'd be playing in a Beatles tribute band & we'd catch up.. Nice knowing you Jimmy.
@@HaFannyHa what did MACCA do or not do to help? When one threatens one’s life while under the influence, I wonder how motivated anyone would be to correct what Jimmy wasn’t interested in removing from his life
Kid was genius on guitar & super vocals . I think Paul shout have seen the drug problem & stepped in & helped him. Not blaming Paul, he just should’ve seen it & helped
His solo on maybe I’m Amazed live is incredible and Beto has it in his top lead breaks of all time. I was luck to see Wings in 76 and 79 and Jimmy was awesome..
Greetings from Texas I was only 14 yrs of age when Jimmy Passed away I think I understand why now you commented at tha tpoint ..someone had commented in the video to the song which is in another video that Jimmy looked like he was under the influence of opiates here,,,,where was Paul n band/ what about his beloved Brother Jack and his parents/ why on earth didn't anyone send him to rehab? this is very sad to watch so are other clips of Jimmy in other videos...He was gorgeous such a shame such a great loss God bless his soul and his family
Greetings from Texas...furthermore this last band he was in..they were no help to Jimmy and just kept suppling him with drink and drugs...this is a disgrace.....
To me, he was an angel. I've always wondered : Why did Jimmy leave Wings ? Pour moi, il fut un ange. Je me suis toujours demandé : Pourquoi Jimmy a-t-il quitté les Wings ?
@@chuckyoneill9029 : It's true that my initial question was a little clumsy, especially since I know the story of Jimmy and his addiction. I had asked this question to generate exchanges in order to go further in our reflection on Jimmy whom we all love. Thank you for understanding and thank you for your comment.
Ive always thought "Beware My Love " lacked a blazing red hot guitar solo to really make it a real ass kicking tune...i think it EVERY time i hear it.Jimmy was silent! Maybe Fauls fault.Luv the tunes where he did deliver (Juniors Farm,Cafe on the left Bank (favs)).Too basd Fauls composing abilitys took such a dive,,,would luv him to have kicked out classic rockers forever.I didnt apreciate "Say Say Say,Ebony and Ivory,Silly Love Songs, london Town.Poor Poor lazy work.Luvs touring Composing stinks IMO.Lonnnnnnggg time fan."McCartney 2" was xlnt...maybe that was the last great 1.

Penis marking service only 14 years of age when can be passed away I just turned fourteen a month beforeit's all were disgraced Paul McCartney control Jimmy according to what I'm reading with music wives Jimmy really was at more of a heavy Walker that's for sure way above his time beyond the man was considered prodigy guitars for crying out loud anyway like I mentioned him and Jackie both look similar gorgeous gorgeous men both inside and out phenomenal they were however they were exposed to too much stuff at a very young age and nobody bothered to be a mentor to goes to or somebody should have went with Jimmy on tour that's for sure should have been sent to rehab what a disgrace breaks my heart but what can we do but make peace with all of this shame on the McCartney's
@@anaparada7219 Jimmy was in the music business way before he was hired by McCartney, who looked out for Paul and the Beatles? Life is tough, and I have a lot of friends, who went the way of Jimmy, and they weren’t rock stars, just regular ordinary people, drugs and alcohol are dangerous, but Jimmy was an adult? McCartney gave Jimmy the opportunity of a life time, and Jimmy was great in Wings! But his drinking and drugging, took its toll on his relationship with Paul, and he ended up leaving wings, but why blame the McCartneys, Jimmy made more money in those few years than he had ever did, and it was his obnoxious behavior that sort of ended it for him, and the McCartneys, Paul liked and respected jimmys talent!
So sorry your right some how I swore I saw Jimmy name on the album my mistake. Dave Spinoza was the other guitarist, Still the best produced album I think.
