@Maria Sjoeblom You are so right! (sorry, I don't have a European keyboard with "Umlauten". Didn't mean to get your name wrong. ) Greetings from Maui, HI (formerly Vienna, ein alter Wiener...)
Feb 1972, Brisbane Australia. My first rock concert. Led Zeppelin - cost $4.40. Took my little brother. Remarked as we got to our seats: I wonder if we can hear them well from here!! No worries about that!! Greatest concert of my life to hear them live and I have been to a few @73+. Memorable. Jimmy requested complete quiet for one song; did not get it; off stage they went; back in 5; got complete quiet. Will remember till I die. What a start to my concert going!

The Beatles aren't included!!! Where's Strawberry fields? Aretha, CCR, The Who, Elton John, Jimi Hendrix, Joni Mitchell, 10CC's I'm not in love... And this is just what first comes to mind.
Yep...and many great songs... Every favorite list is different. I think this is a solid list. It would not be mine exactly. But, nevertheless, a great list. :)
These songs changed every aspect of life in the days they were created greatest hit and changed the jam slow high low chill deep muddy haha these songs brought us to where we are
It is a personal list. But aren't they all? If the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame released a list of 25 greatest songs wouldn't it be just a personal list also? So really it's just 25 great songs.
Was watching a list of the #1's of the 70's. What an amazing variety of genre's. It was a creative time for music. Soul, Rock, Dance, Country, Crooners, Orchestral and Pop. Never be another time like it.
@@this0033 ...well as long as you are prepared to discount...expert opinion/other musicians/peers/public opinion/longevity & ability to appeal to new generations/standing the test of time/album sales/single sales/No.1 hits/originality/groundbreaking sounds & techniques/ melodic variety/using variety of elements in their music e.g. melody, texture, timbre, rhythm, harmony then I guess your opinion must be valid because it is so well thought out
@tokkievonksteen It all depends on what a list of 25 greatest ever songs are based on. Is it album sales, is it how many weeks at the top of the charts, is it how many radio plays, is it what impact a certain song had to inspire other artists or other styles of music. After viewing this original Top 25 greatest songs ever list, it appears the list is compiled of songs that were popular through out late 60s early 70s that were mentioned and I can't think of any reason why Born To Be Wild was not in this list. And maybe you were born sometime after the 70s so you are probably not familiar with the evolution and popularity of hit songs. And for that matter, there's really no way you can include all the great songs one way or another. I happened to be a rock/heavy metal fan, but heck I also like the old Motown sound. Big fan of certain Country music also. So anybody's Top 25 list is obviously gonna be their personal preference. Power to the music forever 🎸
It is absolutely IMPOSSIBLE to make a list of "25 greatest songs ever"! And this choice is simply ridiculous (not least because it only contains songs from British and American artists) - perhaps apart from your numbers 1 and 2, which I agree with.
I can't believe that not a single song by Yoko Ono made the list. Her stuff is the best; when i have stereo wars with my upstairs neighbor - within 20 minutes, he comes down, apologizes and offers to buy me a beer if i shut it off.
"All Along the Watchtower " Hendrix "You Really Got Me" Kinks and so many more. Beatles, Cream, Yardbirds, Allman Brothers ect. This list needs more thought than you have it
Everyone knows that Monster by Steppenwolf is the greatest song in American rock an roll history , everyone knows that White Rabbit by Jefferson Airplane is the greatest song in rock an roll history , everyone knows that Inna gadda da vida is the greatest psychedelic song in rock an roll history , everyone knows that the greatest Canadian song in rock an roll history issssssssssssssssssss , American woman .
Let's think about it for a moment, music is just sound but it has been made into complex art and people's lives have been saved by it, music is fucking amazing
Here’s some just off top of my head that could kick out some of yours. Whiter Shade of Pale. All Along the Watch Tower. 25 or 6 to 4. Good vibrations. You’ve Lost that Lovin Feeling. I Want You Back. Somebody to Love. Billie Jean. Gloria(shadows of knight). Twist and Shout(Beatles). Thats 10. 1 more to state my intention of clicking on any of these lists. Won’t Get Fooled Again.
1 Stairway to Heaven 2 Freebird 3 Bohemian Rhapsody 4 Hey Jude 5 Kashmir 6 Dream On 7 Love Hurts 8 Sweet Home Alabama 9 Miss You 10 Another Brick in the Wall That’s my top 10 anyway.
Good choices, but i would add at least one from The Beatles or Hendrix. And... - Gimme Shelter - Suspicious Mind - Along the watchtower - Let it be - Moonage Daydream - Wind of change - Back in black - Don't stop believin' - Hey Jude! - The Passenger (Iggy Pop) There!
I agree that Hey Jude, Yesterday and A whiter Shade of Pale should be between the 5 greatest ever. However, I miss Good Vibrations and Sympathy for the Devil.
Apparently the Beatles and Creedence Clearwater Revival Didn't play in this guy's town? And the number 3 song ,are you kidding me? It shouldn't make the top 1000.
Garbage is no. 3 but AC/DC is no where to be found? Back in Black is the number 2 selling album of all TIME, Fact, not opinion. 20 Freaking million albums sold. Has anyone even heard an garbage songs in the past 20 years? Its not 1994. Back in black, You Shook Me All Night Long????? Come on! Even Michael Jackson if nothing else, Billy Jean, Thriller.
Intersting list. How did you make this list? What were your selection criteria? For example, Where was the Fleet Wood Mac,? Perhaps, Unchained melody, Elvis, Rod Stewart......The list can go on and on....
Time has come today-Chambers Brothers, Carry On-C S N, Hey Joe- Jimi Hendrix, God only knows-Beach Boys, Beatles, Iron Butterfly, so many to choose from. Procol Haram-Conquistador, is my fav.

No Beatles, Animals, Kinks, Yard Byrds, ELO, Alan Parsons, Buffalo Springfield, Zombies, and The Moody Blues?????!!!! This list is your FAV 25; NOT GREATEST EVER !!!
A lot of the commentators here are missing the point of this list. It was never supposed to echo your opinions or validate them. I already know what I like. I came here to find out what someone else likes to listen to. Thanks for sharing.👍
@@Alex-fb2bs they literally change the sound of pop music..idk what music today will sound like without them..they are inspirstions for many other legendary bands
I've followed music for years with a passion and picking a top 50 let alone 25 is hard at the end of a long day I keep returning to Tin Soldier by Small Faces
Honorable Mentions: AC/DC - Highway To Hell, The Police - Every Breathe You Take, The Kinks - You Really Got Me, Television - Marquee Moon, The Clash - London Calling, Sex Pistols - Anarchy In The UK, Ramones - Blitzkrieg Bop, The Stone Roses - Fools Gold, Blur - Song 2, Oasis - Live Forever, The Beatles - A Day In The Life, The Jam - That's Entertainment, The Cars - Just What I Needed, Talking Heads - Psycho Killer, David Bowie - "Heroes", The Strokes - Last Nite, Elvis Costello - Alison, The Pretenders - Brass In Pocket, The White Stripes - Seven Nation Army, Radiohead - Paranoid Android, Patti Smith - Because The Night, Uriah Heep - July Morning, Electric Light Orchestra - Mr. Blue Sky, The Knack - My Sharona...
Sorry but not one Beatles or Elvis songs? I was too young to really appreciate both groups but now I know great music when I hear it! My number one chouce is... "Imagine" by John Lennon! Even today most people know the song and want peace on earth! ❤❤❤
The greatest song ever written was "Blowing in the Wind." It may not be anyone's favorite song, over something you play at a hockey game, but there was never a better song written. It makes you think and it makes you feel, and of course sing.
@@herpaderp-bp4pe Love the Beatles and The Who, as well as many other artists. As I said, "Blowing in the Wind" is not my favorite song by any means, but I don't think there has ever been a better written song, and it works on all levels. Which ones of The Who are you think of?
Maybe you should listen something from Beatles, The Zombies, The Animals, Grand Funk Railroad, The Sweet, Slade, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Blue Öyster Cult, Iron Maiden, AC/DC, ecc....
Here’s how it should go 25.) Let It Be- The Beatles 24.) Dream On- Aerosmith 23.) Don’t Stop Beliven’- Journey 22.) Paranoid- Black Sabbath 21.) Back In Black- AC/DC 20.) Free Bird- Lynyrd Skynyrd 19.) Smoke On the Water- Deep Purple 18.) Sunshine of Your Love- Cream 17.) Yesterday- The Beatles 16.) All Along the Watchtower- The Jimi Hendrix Experience 15.) Gimme Shelter- The Rolling Stones 14.) Whole Lotta Love- Led Zeppelin 13.) Sweet Child O’ Mine- Guns N’ Roses 12.) Another Brick In the Wall Pt.2- Pink Floyd 11.) Imagine- John Lennon 10.) Purple Haze- The Jimi Hendrix Experience 9.) Good Vibrations- The Beach Boys 8.) Hotel California- The Eagles 7.) Smells Like Teen Spirit- Nirvana 6.) Layla- Derek and the Dominoes 5.) (I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction- The Rolling Stones 4.) Baba O’ Riley- The Who 3.) Hey Jude- The Beatles 2.) Stairway to Heaven- Led Zeppelin 1.) Bohemian Rhapsody- Queen
Rick Nieland Smells Like Teen Spirit is one of the greatest songs ever written I like it Is it one of my top ten favorites No but it’s a good song And it’s proven to be one of the highest selling songs of all time
A classic rock radio station stated here in Santa Fe a long time ago. They considered Stairway to heaven to be the greatest rock song ever and played it for 24 hours straight on their first day.
Lucky you. When I lived in Charlotte years ago when a station changed its format it played Sledgehammer by Peter Gabriel for 24 hours. To this day I get convulsions when I hear that song.
I once did a five hour car/auto trip, where the played it for the whole trip, I became really, really bored of the repetition. It is a great song, but I still prefer Bohemian Rhapsody, maybe because of that memory or torture of listening to it time after time.
A list of 25 greatest songs ever with two songs by Queen, two by Black Sabbath, two by Pink Floyd, only one by Rolling Stones and absolutely nothing by artists like The Beatles, David Bowie, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Van Halen, Supertramp, Men At Work, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Bread, Carpenters, Michael Jackson and ABBA (yes, many of the most talented artists are not rockers)? A personal list, indeed. In my list, I would include also artists like Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Jefferson Airplane, AC/DC, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Grateful Dead and Eagles. And there are many obscure bands which have released just one masterpiece, like Babe Ruth and Silverhead. In fact, I like hard and sweet rock, blues and country. And like to find out musical masterpieces of great artists I did not expect to be so interesting, like I did when reading Nile Rodgers' autobiography.
yes, you are right. Blondie and Garbage nice songs but please......and the most of the songs are the most commercial of the bands (it's seems that this is made by someone knows only the most commercial songs) queen we will rock you? ....... and no The march of the black queen, no Ogre battle , no sheer herat attack......and so on. Garbage better than Bowie ???????????..............
Born To Be Wild - Steppenwolf Fortunate Son - CCR You Shook Me All Night Long - ACDC Purple Haze - Jimi Hendrix Jumpin Jack Flash - R. Stones Runnin With The Devil - Van Halen All Right Now - Free Won't Get Fooled Again - The Who I Can't Drive 55 - Sammy Hagar Bad Company - Bad Co Stranglehold - Ted Nugent More Than A Feeling - Boston Eye Of The Tiger - Survivor Feeling That Way/Anytime - Journey Freebird - Lynyrd Skynyrd Slow Ride - Foghat Space Oddity - David Bowie Bloody Well Right - Supertramp This Flight Tonight - Nazareth No Matter What - Badfinger Juke Box Hero - Foreigner Enter Sandman - Metallica Street Of Dreams - Rainbow Cum On Feel The Noize - Slade Stairway To Heaven - Led Zeppelin Pink Floyd needs a list of their own My personal favorite ! 🎸
@tokkievonksteen Oh well the music died about fifteen or twenty years ago for me. Except for maybe a nice resurgence of Country music maybe. Example I'm a big Chris Stapleton fan. But there's really nothin new in rock that excites me and I hate Hip Hop, so I'm quite happy with my 60s, 70s, and 80s rock/ metal collections to listen to. I grew up with all these great bands and have such great memories of cruising around in my muscle cars with the 8 track stereo blasting away and what I'd give to just go back in time to enjoy one of them days again. I feel blessed to have lived them three decades a young person growing up and I sincerely believe they were the three best decades in America will ever see, especially when it comes to the music.
I'm amazed by all of the negative comments about this list. It's not that I agree with the list - it's just that I'm amazed that so many people seemed to actually expect someone to come up with a definitive list of the top 25 greatest songs ever.
There’s a fine line between personal choice and general consensus that this list unfortunately went over. I get having your own list, but this is just ridiculous. It’s just a personal list, not taking into account anything else
I’m 70. Grew up in San Francisco and LOVE your choices. Thank you so much, 15. Hit the Road, Jack. Pre-WOKE days when people spoke clearly and didn’t sound like pre-washed Goblins spouting Newspeak day and night🤪
I think you made a mistake labeling the video. Even though music is very subjective, it's IMPOSSIBLE that The Beatles, Michael Jackson,, Aerosmith and AT LEAST 50 + WELL KNOWN songs didn't get to be on your list. Honestly, where, how, who (and ALL the "W" words) rated these songs? It'll be really interesting and dangerous to find out.
seriously # 3 WOW. never have even heard that song once in my 51 yrs on this rock. know the band. stupid girl was a bigger hit than that crappy song. and no. 7 hell no !!!!
Honestly, if I never ever hear Stairway to Heaven or Bohemian Rhapsody again, it’d be fine. Nobody who ever lived through when those songs were big probably feels the same. Radio, which was all we had, played those songs every half hour. And almost anything off of Rumors can go too. They’re burned into my subconscious lol
No Dire Straits ? No Scorpions ? No Metallica ? mkay. And Stairway to Heaven deserves to be 1st, even though it's not my fav from Led Zep (Since I've been loving you is more powerful).
Good selection thank you ! But "My Top 25 greatest songs ever" would be more meaningful. It's a kind of arrogance and lack of openmindness to think that the greatest songs ever have been all composed in english and in the last 70 years. Music is at least 40 000 years old (See prehistoric flute) and know no human frontier. Let's open up our heart and mind. Let's dance and sing !
WTF?!? No Beatles or Beach Boys. “Push It” by Garbage ?!? I would rather hear Push It by Salt-No-Pepa. Plus this person can’t spell check. “Smeels like Teen Spirir” ? 😂🤣
