Little Women is a "coming of age" drama tracing the lives of four sisters: Meg, Jo, Beth and Amy. During the American Civil War, the girls father is away serving as a minister to the troops. The family, headed by thier beloved Marmee, must struggle to make ends meet, with the help of their kind and wealthy neighbor, Mr. Laurence, and his high spirited grandson Laurie.

It’s a very close adaptation of a book written in 1868, and the book was ‘an immediate critical and commercial success.’ When it’s being told 70 years later how can it possibly be ahead of its time? It’s not even the first film adaptation, before movies had sound it had already been adapted twice, in 1917 and 1918.

one thing that always ticked Hepburn off was when people misspelled her name- as it is in the headline- it's Katharine with an 'A' not an 'e' a page about classic movies should know that.

I think the best adaptation is the PBS Masterpiece version from 2018. Excellent casting, keeps as true to the story as possible, and very well acted.

Sarah Hackin Hi! I’m sorry for the late response, I only saw your comment just now. I’m slightly biased because I already loved Greta Gerwig’s Lady Bird, but in my opinion her Little Women surpassed even this one.

Well, I watched this 1933 version last night and it was very good and I loved to see some scenes that aren´t represented in the newest versions!. For example,when Jo visited Laurie or the theater play!!. But not sure why this happens they always have to change the order of the events and miss some important moments , like when Amy changes in Aunt March´s house. And Jo spent more time with Beth... but overall is a great adaptation. The newest versions are good too in their own way. My favorite is the 1994 one , first one I watched with Winona Ryder,Christian Bale,Claire Danes and Kirsten Dunst... but I´m still waiting for one more faithful to the book. I also recommend the 2017 tv series,is 3 episodes, very good too.
