Nena Mtz saying people make mistakes is a weak excuse for a situation like this. All Actions have consequences no matter mistake or not. If you’d put yourself in Jo’s shoes trust me, you would not be defending Amy. I get it if Amy was 7, but guess what she was 12 years old, someone her age should be able to control her anger. I have 2 older sisters I’ve been really angry with them before, I wanted them to feel my hurting before, but I could NEVER bring myself to do something permanent.

That is an astonishing non-apology from Amy. “I’m sorry, Jo, but it’s not like I could hurt you by burning one of your dresses and I really wanted to hurt you.” I can only imagine the temptation Jo felt to march into Amy’s closet, take out all her dresses and shove them in the fire. And her hair ribbons and stockings and anything else. Obviously, Jo wouldn’t do that because, aside from just being wrong, the family is poor and they probably wouldn’t be able to get new ones for Amy but still.

I am siding with Jo on this. I understand what it feels like when your hard work goes to vain. Amy literally ruined her hard work and Jo has to start from scratch all over again. I think Laura Dern's character was very ignorant. Like yeah I get it Amy was a kid but you need to teach your kid how to respect other's work. But again this scenario took place in the 1800's. Women's work/masterpiece was not respected as much it is in contemporary times.

Amy’s actions were unforgivable, but we can’t just forget the reason that she did it. Throughout the book and movie, Jo was mean and cruel to Amy, and sure, Amy could’ve handled the situation better, but she was TWELVE years old, so we shouldn’t act as if she’s a terrible person simply because of a childish mistake.

I agree. She's great as adult Amy, but they should have cast a younger girl for Amy as a child (as in the 1994 version). Especially this scene lost its meaning: Amy being annoying to go to the teathre and Amy burning the manuscript to spite Jo make sense only with a childish Amy.

@alel3544
@alel3544 3 года назад
@@susanalopez5052 True, and that's why this scene doesn't make much sense, because burning Jo's book can be believable only if Amy is 10-12 years old. It's a childish angry reaction: Florence Pugh is really great as Amy, but this scene is not believable with a teenager Amy, from the menace to Jo till the burning of her book. I prefer the 1994 scene, with Kristen Dunst. The apology scene is also better, while here she doesn't seem too sorry and she even tries to justificate herself.
@susanalopez5052
@susanalopez5052 3 года назад
@@alel3544 I personally like this better. Sure the 94 version is more accurate but I don’t think book accuracy makes for a better scene. To me aging her up makes her request of going to the theater less unreasonable as its less “no we dont want to babysit you” and its more “No, we don’t want you there”. And I like how in here they don’t make any excuses for Amy. In this version she did it not because of innocence, nor childishness, but pure anger petty-ness and revenge. And I just love how its overall way more brutal, Jo just goes all in and gives her a good beating. Plus I think it’s a more poignant lesson about forgiveness for go Jo forgive an un excusable cruel act, over forgiving a childish mistake. Idk maybe I also just like the added drama

I love how this movie showed how someone can mature and grow. Also, despite a 12 year old being mature enough to not do this, I do appreciate how it shows the sibling dynamic in this scene. Especially when Amy almost drowns and you can see they still care about each other. Also, just to play devils advocate for a moment. I feel like jo and Amy are so similar that if the roles were reversed and jo was younger and kept at home, then she would have acted similarly to Amy. I think in our day and age we don’t really understand the value of a book written at that time. It was so much more than pages and words it’s a way to remember. I way to express and explain. Even if you write in a journal today there are so many ways to trap a moment in time. Also putting yourself into a book isn’t metaphorical it’s literal. It’s an extension of ones self. While what Amy did was wrong her headspace is understandable. Beth is really quiet and stuff and most nights she's trapped at home with Beth. She begged her sisters to take her out of that stuffy house and they laughed in her face. I get the frustration. She took it too far but I still symphasize with her

Amy is the youngest in her family. She clearly got petted a lot. Having 3 teenage sisters to join drove her to act mature, but in reality she's 12, mentally and emotionally!! This complicated thinking makes Amy do things that come with consequences her youth can't handle. That's why she burned the book, her teenage sister stopped her from having a "teenage" social life while being 12! So what does she do?! Amy turns into a cruel little shrew!

Even though what Amy did to jo was very mean you have to understand that Amy here is young and as humans sometimes our anger gets the best of us. As Amy put it’ll loved her writing but Amy loved socializing so when jo took that way from her she felt that she had to take something jo loved in this case it was her writing. This was also a very good lesson for them to learn I liked how jo said “ life’s to short to be mad at one sister “

i dont think people realize that amy WAS sorry in this scene; it takes so much strength to admit that you did something so cruel and hateful, and as a youngest sibling, i get her exactly. she meant exactly what she was feeling, and it makes complete sense. now, i will say that as a writer, jo was completely justified in not forgiving amy. just because somebody is truly sorry doesn’t excuse what they did.

Being 12 is not an excuse. I am around that age myself and to even think of doing something like that to one of my siblings makes me feel physically sick. It does not matter if you are at the age of 12 you still have a conscience and the ability to think. Amy needs to learn that her actions have consequences. If I ever did that to my siblings I think I would at least get slapped,reprimanded, and punished.

As writer I can understand the pain of all your hard work just being pulled out from under the rug but I also understand what it is like to be a younger sibling. You want that validation from your older siblings brother or sister and sometimes you don’t act rationally and don’t always think clearly and do things out spite for them when they reject you. Amy just wants to be like her sister and watch her succeed but when Jo who tells her she can’t go to the theater with others and was mean to her about it she acted out. It also comes from Jo having a lack of understanding of Amy.
