He always anticipate "every eventuality" and so nothing come as a surprise, this was a surprise... He had absolutely no clue what to say the moment he panicked, one of the reasons Sansa tricked him.
It is part of his character. its just that he was never put in a situation where he didn't have the upperhand. His priority has always been to survive and rise no matter the means.
No, because all of his secrets were spilled out by Bran, which is something that any intellectual would be totally unprepared for.. Since Baelish is a master at keeping secrets, but against Bran he had none
We will all act differently when put on the spot and on the verge of death. Fight or flight. Survival of the fittest. Until the very end he still tried to manipulate her.
You left out the thing I think I loved best about Littlefinger's downfall. It's a complete inversion of what happened to Ned Stark in Season 1. Ned wasn't a fool, he was just perfectly adapted to life in the North. For Ned, honor and loyalty were the general rule. He took that perspective with him when he went South. Unfortunately, in the south, loyalties are constantly shifting rather than the constant that they were in the north. So, when Ned failed to adapt to the reality of his new surroundings, he became vulnerable to the Littlefinger's machinations. In Littlefinger's case, he was perfectly adapted to a world where people's loyalties were conditional, and could be purchased. Friends (and even family) could be turned against each other with the proper inducement. When Littlefinger went North, he took that way of thinking with him. He continued to play his treacherous games, not realizing that he was doomed to fail. The Starks just don't turn on each other. Arya and Sansa always had issues with each other, but ultimately they would do what their father had taught them to do...stand together. Sure, Littlefinger could cause some disruptions, but he was never going to get the Stark siblings to actually turn against each other. Trying to do so led to his fall at the hands of Ned Stark's kids. So, in both cases, you have people perfectly adapted to their own environment getting killed because they failed to adapt to the new environment in which they found themselves. As has been said before on the show, "When Winter comes, the lone wolf dies, but the Pack survives." We knew that winter had come. We knew that Littlefinger was a lone wolf. We knew that the Stark siblings were a pack. So, the end result was a foregone conclusion.
@@Korijenkins1414 You are misrepresenting the deleted scene. In the scene, Sansa went to Bran for the information. That means that she had to have already suspected that he was trying to play them. Even if she were unsure (which is hard to believe given her "only a fool would trust Littlefinger" comment to Jon), Arya being "escorted" to the hall occurred afterwards. That means that this was all a ploy to lull Littlefiner into a false sense of security. The Stark siblings showed Baelish what he wanted to see, and what he might expect to see in other areas of Westeros. As for the earlier tension between Arya and Sansa, I have no doubt that was real. The two were always quite different, and that caused them to be at odds with each other at times. There's a huge difference between that, however, and actually betraying your sibling. As their father taught them, "In Winter, the lone wolf dies, but the pack survives." As for justice in the North, you're simply wrong. Stark justice could be quite severe. It was trusted, however, because it was never arbitrary nor motivated by an attempt to deceive. Summary justice (and even summary execution) was, however, a real thing in the North. I most certainly stand by my earlier analysis. For as much as people point out that Ned died because he failed to adapt to the reality of Southern ways, Baelish died because he failed to adapt to Northern ones. Just like Ned did in Kings Landing, Baelish continued to operate in the same manner that he did in the South. For both men, the ultimate result was quite final and unpleasant.
@@stanklepoot I like this theory and it's in the vein what Martin writes. Not only that but it means we are done with Baelish which I am glad for. He's done too much damage and to have him around even longer just seems pointless. Lastly, if he was a faceless man, it would seem redundant since A) Arya is one and B) Bran would know.

Secondly, on the heels of this in depth excellence, and given the reveal of Jon Snow's parentage, you should do a video about what an awesome acting job Sean Bean did as Ned Stark in Season 1, knowing what he knew about Jon, and all of the interplay between him and the other characters, etc.
sean bean definitely killed it. tons of great actors in this sow apologies, but i doubt i'll get to this type of analysis (at least before season 8) because i have over 1300 pages of notes (over 300 videos) in progress, and only enough time to get done maybe 50-60 of them :(
How would you explain that after bran tells him 'chaos is a ladder' littlefinger does nothing or at least suspect that his some of his actions were seen by bran and therefore known by sansa ...
Katelyn Rushe . Sansa knew that Bran was the three eyed raven. He explained to her in one scene that he could see 'everything ' happening all over the world, the past, what's going to happen in the future. He knew about her terrible wedding night. So, Sansa knows that Bran has special powers. If Littlefinger had tried to turn her against her brother, that would confirm to Sansa how evil he is, and that he's afraid of Brans powers and knowledge . Another mistake that LF made was revealing to Sansa what his true motivations were. That goes along with underestimating Sansa, but also in putting his trust in her. Both left him vulnerable to her figuring him out.
Exactly! For someone who claims to know everyone and be secretive about his motives, he told Sansa everything time and time again. Not as careful as people seem to think lol
Arya didn't fully realise that they've grown up nor did she understand that they are playing as adults now when she saw Sansa sleeping in their parents' room as an issue. Jon and Sansa are now the leaders of Winterfell/the North in place of their parents. They are establishing their own command in the world after their parents. Of course they need to assume the positions that their parents once held, including the "master bedroom" of the castle if they were to declare they are now the lord and lady of Winterfell and have people following them in their rule.
The whole problem with this plot is not at all that Sansa outsmarted LF. The problem begins with LF plan. It makes no sense at all. He would not gain too much by it (having Arya dead, and Sansa distrusting of Jon, at best). It was not even thought out properly. He put himself in the front of this plan. He acted the way arya would always find him not trustful - This would only recquire Sansa being open to her own sister. It is dumb. Littlefinger would never act the way Arya suspected him. He would, at least, try to not let her know that everything she finds out is thanks to him, at that moment. Everything he's done was dumb and unecessary. Sorry mate, this whole plot was just dumb writing trying to pass as smart stuff - sorry for grammar guys, english is not my first lenguage.
I just thought Sansa figured it out because Littlefinger played the ask what x want game and Littlefinger said Arya wanted to be lady of winterfell which was the five away that he was playing her, because she’d never want to be a lady.
This still doesn’t answer why. This was one of the biggest fan fiction moments the new writers just threw in for the heck of it. Yes, everyone hates Little Finger for betraying Ned. But that just makes the decision to kill him off fan service. Martin’s Little Finger was way too smart to get caught in his own web.
I think Littlefinger needed to be taken out by Sansa. But they did not set it up well enough. If I were the writer, I would have spent time showing Sansa’s ability to strategize… and to act out whatever Littlefinger needs to be assured of her loyalty and naïveté. She should have been plotting revenge against him, while using him to meet her needs (e.g., Knights of the Vale at the Battle of the Bastards). The whole scenario should have played out like a battle of wits where the audience is confident the victory was earned. Arya calling her “the most intelligence person she ever met” would not come from left field. The idea that Sansa found out everything about Littlefinger through Bran is a disservice to her leadership, intelligence, and cunning.
I think that this entire arc could have been written better. If you rewatch season 1, with the knowledge that Littlefinger is going to betray Ned Stark, you can see the show giving the audience tiny clues of Littlefinger's eventual betrayal. Where as, in season 7, the the show tries to surprise the audience at the very end like "Surprise! Sansa was on to Littlefinger the whole time!" I feel The writers could have thought of a better end for the most dangerous man in Westeros
This was great but the one big clue that you missed was that final talk with Sansa. Little Finger wanted Sansa to think that Arya wanted Winterfell for herself to become the Lady of Winterfell. Sansa knowing her sister knew that this is the one thing she would NEVER want. Therefore his whole premise for her wanted Sansa dead doesn't fit. I think this is the moment when Sansa realizes Little Fingers plan.
Thanks for explaining this. I was always a little confused as to his plan this season. Although I still think the writing for little finger’s plans deteriorated after season and especially in 7. It annoys me that the same guy who said to expect everything didn’t have a contingency plan for if Sansa and Arya were to team up. Especially after Bran already revealed that little finger was in over his head. He could have at least demanded a trial by combat. Not a befitting end for the most cunning player in the game of thrones.

I am not convinced by your explanation that LF is dead. When he hands that girl the coin, she tells him "time's up". It can be heard with the volume up on headphones. In earlier seasons we find out LF spent time in Braavos. Also, Doreah, Dany's hot handmaiden said when she was working in brothels, she described people who could change their faces. Also, the coin LF gave that Winterfell girl was most likely the coin of Braavos. Martin likes to stick subtle clues into the story to show LF is far too clever to let the Stark girls and Bran outsmart him. As soon as Bran repeated the phrase he once uttered, "chaos is a ladder", LF knew he had to GTFO Winterfell.

I'm going to miss Littlefinger.. He had a huge impact on the game and always kept things unpredictable. The manner of his death was very fitting, but I wish they would have let him play until the very end
I'm surprised this needed explaining as the show made it quite obvious which is in a way why a small part of me was disappointed as I loved Littlefingers character and I felt he had a more interesting part to play still rather than his final ploy being to play Sansa against Jon but whatever. The later season is losing some of the slow maneuvering I liked in the earlier seasons but I suppose that is expected with the end of the show coming up in the next seasons. (That being said I thoroughly enjoyed this season and the amazing actors. I think littlefinger's portrayal is one of the best)
With Season 8 coming around the corner, I came across this nice video while watching a bunch of theory crafting videos. Littlefinger is just plain dead. His time simply ran out. There's no room for the game of scheming and political mayhem with season 8 being short as it is. It's now the game of surviving the dead. The theory that Littlefinger paid someone to wear his face, makes zero sense. For a faceless man to wear a face he/she kills that person to acquire it. So why would he pay someone to kill him to wear his face for a trial to be killed? That would mean Littlefinger isn't Littlefinger to begin with. So what would be the point of all of it. A better far out theory would be Littlefinger being a descendant of the Night King, and he was stirring as much chaos to make things easier for the assault.

I disagree. All your points (just like the arguments from the other side) are hints, there is no solid evidence. A faceless man with a woman's face is paid with an iron coin for a replacement of Littlefinger (he/she doesn't have to know that he/she is in grave danger) ... sounds quite possible to me though it is not very likely. People can say what they want about his death scene, but after Littlefinger heard Bran's "Chaos is a Leader", he needed to know that he was in grave danger. As a result, he should have done something that protected him. So there are only three options: 1. He did something ineffective that the show didn't show us (yet). 2. He was extremely convident into his influence on Sansa and consciously ignored the danger. 3. He did something that was effective and and faked his death e.g. in collaboration with a faceless man. Maybe in a different way. In the first case something is missing in the plot, that hopefully will be shown next season (if it doesn't, it is unfortunately bad writing). The second case, in my opinion, doesn't go well with Littlefinger's character (I would also call that bad writing). Only the third case would fit well with Littelfinger given the scenes we know.
He was a gr8 character that Littlefinger. As well as Varis another one I really like too. But unfortunately, the odd are very high that he will probably die in the last season.
Great overall analysis....but the reason he is dead is pretty simple....we saw him die, and even *IF* he was a faceless man he would STILL be dead. Faceless men can only wear the faces of people they've killed (or been killed by their sect). They can't be living people.
@Julian Regarding Jaqen H'ghar it is not quite clear what his powers are (and it is speculated the show took liberties it should not have over the book) , but regarding Arya it is accepted via the show and the books that she (and other acolytes) can only wear faces of dead people. The scene of LF's death was so badly written that it would had made me laugh if not for how pathetic it was. Not surprising though, the whole character was ruined several seasons ago (as well as the whole series tbh).
Sansa did say for all those many years in kings landing she learned alot from Cersei. After the Ramsey marriage that was her confirmation to not trust littlefinger. She's been through way worse to even think about turning on ayra and Jon. I would have liked to know what she wrote to littlefinger to bring the nights of the vale to the battle of the bastards but with that being said i just remembered when littlefinger found out sasna escaped winterfell he convinced robyn to unleash the vale to go save her.
Can you do a video about Tormund Giantsbane and what his future looks like in the next season. Maybe he'll get with Brianne and make babies like he said. Maybe he'll go out fighting till his death in season seven. A what if video pretty much on all the ways. On what could happen to Tormund in the next season.
I feel like after Bran saying the, "Chaos is a ladder" line that Petyr would have left town. He's too smart to stay IMO. Hopefully the books make his eventual demise a lot more believable.
You completely forgot that he threw it up in Cersei's face about her and Jaime in the courtyard: "Sometimes, even siblings are known to.... in the same household." "Knowledge is power." She countered him by telling the guards to "seize him and cut his throat." Then she stopped them and said, "I changed my mind." She then retorts his, "knowledge is power" with her own..."POWER is power." Then she walks away having proven her point. LF was very shrewd, but he was also far from perfect. That wasn't wise throwing that up in her face in front of her guards. Even though he was subliminal in his wording, SHE knew and HE knew he was talking about her and Jaime. So it's really not that unbelievable if you remember little details like that.
Why though? No way he believes that Bran’s magical, I can’t see him giving up Sansa and the north because of a cripple who said something he said years ago. Obviously there’s other issues, but assuming he’d just leave the north which was still feasibly in his grasp because of something Bran said? I doubt it
The disgust on Jon's face as Littlefinger regales his love for Sansa and Catelyn is pure art. You can practically see him thinking "EW EW EW STAY AWAY FROM HER"
It's also a great hint that Littlefinger's "poker face" isn't as good as he thought it was, and that there are characters - specifically, the Starks - who could see right through his bluffs and lies and deceptions and see who he really is and what he was really after. Littlefinger was great at using Ned's sense of loyalty and honour against him, and great at playing games with the selfish, greedy, shallow, vain, and corrupt people in King's Landing, but the only person in-universe we have telling us what a genius and brilliant player of the Game of Thrones Littlefinger is, is just Littlefinger himself patting himself on the back every time he gets a chance to tell his captive audience how good he is at what he's doing. Certainly, Catelyn saw through him, Catelyn's father seems to have saw through him, and all the Stark children are seeing through him.

My only problem with this explanation is that I figured that Sansa knew Littlefinger was not to be trusted the moment he sold her out to Ramsay Bolton. When you look at their relationship, it's abundantly clear that Littlefinger was trying to make himself Sansa's only source of support, and the moment that wasn't the case (thanks to Jon, Bran, and Arya coming back into the pack) he would be an idiot for thinking Sansa actually liked him. But Littlefinger's ongoing flaw was that he never fell out of love with Catelyn Tully, and Sansa was always in his eyes Catelyn, his queen.
Well she might have known he couldn't be trusted from the start, but remember she hasn't seen her siblings for a long time. We want her to trust them more than Littlefinger from the moment they reunite, because we have been following their struggles along with Sansa's. We know they are still good people and wouldn't try to harm her. But the thing is she doesn't have this knowledge. She had no way of knowing if Arya had actual intentions of harming her, she didn't know about the faceless men, Gendry or any of her experiences. She didn't know who she was. This was a strange person to her, wearing her sister's face. Of course it took a while before they started working together, for both of them to reconcile who they were with who they are now. She "trusted" Littlefinger for the same reason she lied to protect him back in the Vale. Better the devil you know that the one you don't.
ramsay being who he was was the wrench that ruined what petyr was doing. he had her exactly where he needed her to be until ramsay was ramsay and that specifically ruined any trust that could have ever been there for sansa. the scenes between the death of of lysa and her going off to bolton showed her adapting to him even down to the way she dressed. she *did* like him during that period of time and i'd be hard pressed to believe otherwise. the leaving her with the bolton's is not what threw the trust away. it was him failing to have seen ramsay for what he was hardening sansa's heart toward him, in my opinion at least. i'm still rewatching again in preparation but i don't think petyr truly knew the extent of the damage done from what happened with ramsay, which if it did not happen along with the annoying omnipotent character whose existence i despise in any story as all interesting plot disintegrates in the face of "i just know everything that could possibly have happened so deceit is impossible", would have made petyr's plan much more likely to succeed despite it's apparent unlikelihood in the eyes of most people. arya's bond with jon is far stronger than the bond between sansa and arya, it just comes off that their bond is so strong because the actresses themselves are so close and they wanted to play that up for the fans that love them, in my opinion again. make sansa appear a threat to jon to arya through her own apparent lust for power, feasible wedge to drive through them. i feel it would have been a more satisfying conclusion where brienne's bond to the starks through catelyn convincing arya through combat defending sansa from her brought her to her senses as opposed to bran's omnipotent magic, but oh well.
@@cassidycross3406 yes and no. it's the end game of what petyr started, his goal isn't power for power's sake, it was power to obtain the only person he loved. she died due to his machinations going sideways from unpredictable people (joffrey) ruining the flow of his plan, so instead of abandoning his plan with no real time left he stuck it out and tried to outplay. it had a much better chance of succeeding if absurd omnipotent characters didn't exist, and if an unpredictable person (ramsay) once again didn't ruin his plan by spoiling the trust he had developed in sansa. petyr is remorseless and controlling with a better sense than most characters for the sick levels of depravity people fall to, but still failed to predict those characters when it mattered most as he himself was not like them. my opinion at least. he's not *as* evil as people seem to think he is, he simply lives in a cruel world where power is necessary and adapted to the best of his abilities to pursue love. for how integral his plot was to the story developing i feel the show does a disservice by not making it more clear to the audience. he's cruel and remorseless with *reason*, not for it's own sake. there are blatant hints but they are quick and easily missed. i got sidetracked a bit, the point of this was i can't see him abandoning his quest to obtain both sansa and the power necessary to be with her without clearer indications of his plan being unwinnable. i can't imagine he knew how badly ramsay damaged sansa's trust for him, sansa was more guarded after that and while she made it obvious it had changed, i don't think it was apparent how irreparably it was. and while bran was being his cocky little shit self and hinting at his omnipotence to petyr, that alone couldn't have been enough to convince petyr to abandon his only goal when it's culmination was at it's end as from that interaction alone to realize he's mostly omnipotent would be insane. if you can't tell i despise bran's character both from the way it's done and the existence of such a character to begin with. so yes, if he left then there was no time left to recover, the war was going to end soon, and without a proper idea of how badly his plan was already destroyed i can't see him leaving. this is also speaking from the perspective of show baelish being as smart as book baelish which i felt in previous seasons was true and am trying to give the show the benefit of the doubt with the integrity of his character and fault the addition of omnipotent characters instead making his character seem less intelligent than he was.

I've been restreaming it. It works better if you watch it like a Netflix show all at once. Which is weird, but it's still good writing. But, TV is shifting how it tells stories. What I'm saying is we should all have Season 8 right now....
I feel this is a plotline from Winds of Winter that Martin told the showrunners about to include, and I can only imagine it would be handled much better in the books with the addition of more detail and POV charchters, but the show just struggled to convey. When the source writing often shows a characters thoughts and feelings, and many characters lie all the time. (especially littlefinger) its very hard to put that on screen, at least now. Seasons 1-4 did it pretty well, but it got out of hand.
@@bridge4 I don't necessarily think he wanted to trick her. I honestly believe what he was planning was, in fact, sitting on the throne with Sansa on his side. probably Catelyn originally, but as she died he's gone for the closest person to her. Her daughter. I really think he had a, from an outer perspective weird, love for that picture. Your version also makes sense, but I think he just started playing a difficult and dangerous game for the sake of realizing his dream and therefore Sansa was indispensable. He had to go for it.
I felt like Littlefinger's biggest mistake was that he didn't correctly guess Arya's motives. He just assumed that she, like most people in Westeros, just wanted power. Wanted to be Lady of Winterfell. However, Sansa knew her sister better, and that was the switch moment when she realized Littlefinger was stringing her along.
I saw that as well. The moment when Sansa realized Littlefinger was plotting to turn them against each other was when she said, "Lady of Winterfell," about Arya, at his prompting.
His biggest mistake was that he lost any purpose and like in the matrix without purpose he would not exist. (Still believe hes alive though and hes fooled even this author :) )
Takes you back to Season 1. Last thing Arya ever wanted was to be a Queen of anything and she despised Sansa for wanting those things. Littlefinger miscalculated big time.
I think it's inconsistent writing on LF's part. If he is this sort of visionary in the political theatre whose parents were from Braavos, how could he not realize Arya was very different than your typical northern girl. Her carriage is at the very least unusual. Her fighting style on display during her practice duel with Brienne screams Braavos. Her utter lack of traceability from Ned's head being removed to showing up in Winterfell should generate a great deal of concern in LF's mind. The only thing he would likely learn about Arya is that she spent time in Braavos. I think it unlikely the House of Black and White would ever give up one of their apprentices for any amount of money. Jaqen was clearly taken with Arya's personality believing she would make a marvelous Faceless man...and he was right.
I think Sansa knew right from the beginning she needed to get rid of Littlefinger without losing the Knights of the Vale, but she just didn't have all the pieces yet. So she played Littlefinger's game. She let him *think* she was paranoid and needed his advice, but she was in control the entire time. The only wildcard is Arya. I do think the Arya and Sansa conflict was legit at first, but I don't think either of them wanted to take down the other. I think they were just very carefully re-learning each other in their own ways until they knew they could trust one another. Then with Bran, Sansa finally had all the proof she needed to take down Littlefinger. TLDR: I don't think Sansa was paranoid or not in control at any point this entire season. I think she was finally playing the game better than anyone expected her to be able to.

Scottish Girl LOL! Great comment. I actually utilize Asoiaf books and GOT as a method of pain control called diversional therapy. If the patient can find a subject that requires intense concentration, it helps block pain stimuli. I have CRPS in my alphabet of illness.
The Lady Olenna Tyrell playing an instrument, especially difficult one does same. All your energy both mental and physical must be focused on the task of mastering the music, and it leaves little room for pain. 😉.

I didn’t find the “rift” between Sansa and Arya in S7 to be that convincing. I think most people never really believed that Arya would actually kill Sansa when push came to shove. The final LF scene was quite awesome, though. I loved Bronze Yohn’s, “I think not.” The Royce’s don’t get enough play in the show.
To me, it had felt like there was some initial conflict there - a resettling as Sansa, Arya, (and to a lesser point, Bran) had to feel each other out after a long time apart undergoing growth in their own crucibles. A little time to get used to what they were now. To establish that they hadn't become part of the horrors that tried them. And then Sansa and Arya put on a little show of going at each other - becoming off balance. Inviting Little Finger to step in to push them... at which point the Stark children simply stepped aside and delivered the cut as would a Water Dancer... never actually off-balance.

Yep, he's dead. You have to understand that Bran has basically been third-eyeing the hell out of him for ages, which is why he knows all these semi-obscure snippets of convo from his past. And even if that weren't so, he absolutely would have, from the dagger scene onwards. So basically, at this point, all of Littlefinger's secret movements in Winterfell and/or beyond are directly exposed to Bran's perception. Any Faceless Man plot would be completely transparent to him. The only real way out of that would be to claim that Bran is withholding some secret, deep knowledge that LF is really a paradoxical savior of the land. But then Bran's taunting with those snippets of conversation would make no sense, and the reactions by LF require it to be him. Even an FM wouldn't have access to every conversation from someone's past. Only Bran can do that.

For me the moment Littlefinger lost Sansa was when ha made her say that Arya wants to become Lady of Winterfell. The two sisters perhaps have never been best friends, but Arya was never the type to become a "Lady" and after seeing her fight Brienne I think Sansa had also accepted that. When Littlefinger accused Arya, wanting to kill Sansa for becoming the Lady of Winterfell, Sansa got suspicious. At least that was always how I thought. The only bad side of Littlefingers death is, that I am missing the "official death sentence" - the proper way it is done: "In the name of King John, King of the noth *title title title*I, Sansa Stark, Lady of Winterfell, sentence you to death for your crimes" .. (or similar). The way it happened, you could call Arya a murder, as there were only accusations, but no official command to kill. But that is really just a small teardrop.
as far as that last part, there was no trial needed. because he was proven guilty by a greenseer arya was only a murderer in the eyes of someone who doesnt believe bran's powers are real
And, now that you mention it, that scene of Arya dancing circles around the bigger and more powerful Brienne was, in itself, foreshadowing of what was coming: that Sansa was about to dance circles around the bigger, more powerful manipulator, Littlefinger. That wasn't the only hint we had that Littlefinger was overplaying his hand: Bran's remark echoing Littlefinger's "chaos is a ladder" is likewise a hint that Bran knew more about the situation than master-spy Littlefinger, Jon's reaction to Littlefinger's attempt at manipulation in the crypts and his threat to kill Littlefinger if he touched his sister revealed that Jon saw right through Littlefinger's motivations and knew Littlefinger much better than Littlefinger knew Jon, etc. And those are just the bits I'm remembering from one viewing of the season, and this video; I have no doubt that a careful rewatching of this episode will reveal many, many other instances of seemingly outmatched characters overcoming bigger, stronger, more powerful, and more experienced opponents.
Close. I think Sansa knew from the beginning of her time at Winerfell. She knew Littlefinger would betray her and when Bran arrived she got all the confirmation she needed of the past. She set Littlefinger up from the beginning giving him the rope to hang himself with with the help of her siblings. He never had a chance. He may be a master of playing the game of thrones but the Starks are better by far now. In the end John is the General, Arya the Spy, Bran the Seer, and Sansa the Politician. Together they play the game better than pretty much any one.
@@Craig_Narramoore that's why i don't like the conflict between aria and sansa in season 7. it just doesn't make sense for sansa to be falling for littlefinger's bullshit when she knows exactly what sort of treacherous, devious scum he really is when she and aria were fighting, i kept expecting to see littlefinger spying on them. i was assuming it was all a ruse to make him think he was winning. but the show runners say the fighting was real... and this weakens the plot for me. that sort of animosity between the sisters just didn't feel earned

They were always at opposite ends & there had to be a lil conflict to help them see each others sides. Sansa was scared of Arya's list of names & who was on it. Arya felt that Sansa had betrayed the family & was finding out if she had really done so. I believe that Littlefinger was also watching the girls through his informants. Give both the girls credit because they were both very brilliant in leading Littlefinger exactly where they want him. I believe Sansa confided in him to keep him close & believing she still trusted him. Where Arya lead him to believe that he was more devious than her. Then all 3 Starks sentence him to death. No it wasn't a Faceless Man because a Faceless wouldn't have known what Littlefinger said to Ned Stark. Ding Dong Littlefinger is dead. ❤❤❤
That so does not sound like GRRM writing. Everyone levels up until they're better than the master at the beginning? He hates that kind of thing as we've seen many times. Littlefinger SHOULD be alive in my opinion, as a viewer watching it seems way too obvious that there is a chance that they will kill him for him not to see it himself.

And if he's not, he should at the very least attempt to discredit Bran by painting these accusations as a power play to control the Knights of the Vale (Not to mention every accusation in the trial has a clear defense and if Littlefinger was still Littlefinger, he would've capitalized on Sansa's baseless accusations and 100% evaded justice.) I mean goddam she starts by saying "You killed Lysa" and Lord Royce is literally in the room (to whom Sansa testified Lysa killed herself), yet he says nothing and they don't even show him. After 7 seasons of playing the game so well, it seemed odd that Littlefinger would make such a stupid mistake by not knowing Bran could see his betrayal of Ed Stark. How could he not know that? Of course he didn't know Bran could see his betrayal. Bran didn't come in announcing that he's the 3 eyed raven. Only Sam, Sansa and Arya knew a bit of his powers because he was very specific in how he shoed them. When asked directly why he is the way he is he gives answers that while clear to the audience only confuse everyone around him. Little finger probably assumed that he was being spied on when Bran quoted his words. as a rational man how could he imagine the very supernatural being part of his downfall. He doesn't look like an idiot, his mistake was thinking that his actions were completely secret. Remember what he said to Cersi? Knowledge is power. He had no knowledge of the 3 eyed raven. Bran made the unknown, known. Hence Little Finger lost his power.
eoe123321 In earlier seasons it was mentioned that faith in the old gods was all but dead. The only stuff we here about them in detail is from an old lady in season 1. This heavily implies that this information is little known. The Starks have little idea too and only maintain some old practices for the sake of tradition. Even as signs of the old world keep increasing, people ignore them . Little Finger was 1. Not from the North 2. Not fully welcomed by the Starks 3. He had his spies in Winterfell for sure but unlike the people in the South, Northerners hardly participated in the intrigues of the court and therefore were not ranked high in his priorities until they were sucked into the political games by force. 4. The three eyed raven is never mentioned until Bran's storyline, not even as whispers, not even when the white walkers appear and other old "myths" like giants etc unlike the lord of light that comes up several times before its highlighted. Literally no one but four people know of the 3 eyed raven until Bran becomes one and tells Sansa, Sam & indirectly Arya who has no reason to doubt his sudden nearly all knowing power due to her own experience with the faceless men. I think his death falls in line with a common thread throughput GoT, of "A man's greatest strength is also his greatest weakness" e.g The Stark''s honor is used against them hence deaths, rape, betrayal etc.The Lannister's Pride has made them the most hated family in the Seven kingdoms. Jon Snow's big heart gets him a blade through the heart. Joffery's cruelty earns him a cruel death. Cersei's maliciousness and condescension results in the death of all her children. Tywin's pride = death at Tyrion's hand as a direct result of treating his son not as family but as a disposable tool. Petre dies because his rationality, his game mindset tells him that Bran must know the details of what he says because of a spy, or simply takes it as a coincidence. Bran didn't paint a picture for him like he did for his sisters, Bran planted doubt but not enough to appear as a real threat. He saw Arya as his foremost enemy which is why he tried so hard to pit the sisters against each other. Here were Sansa's siblings coming back one after the other, he already made Jon his enemy, he needed to act quickly before all his work on Sansa went down the drain. That's when he fucks up. Because he's been teaching Sansa how to play his game she's starting to see him for his true colors, he knows nothing about Arya or her goals, immediately assuming like in the South, Arya and Bran will want her position and can be used to sow paranoia in Sansa and make her trust him more. He treats her like a Southerner, forgetting that she's a northerner, that in the north she has an upperhand because she knows the people and her family better than he does. He became a game player on the wrong chessboard, his tactics would have ultimately failed anyway without the supernatural interference. Its war time, the moment the North smells a traitor they get rid of them as soon as possible and when you prove your honor (something Little Finger never did) they stand with you to the death.They don't dally with mind games. Because the northerners are mostly straightforward people. Arya wants to fight, Sansa wants to be a lady, Ned to do right by his friend, Jon to do right by the living, Bran to fulfill his new identity. Little Finger has been playing in a world where people change their goals and loyalty so quickly that he underestimated the firm core of the North as nothing more than naivety, like a pro baller among amateurs. That's what really got him in the end and I mean, it was only a matter of time, Bran only pushed up D Day by providing immediate proof.
There is a bit of poetic justice in Littlefinger's lack of conception... Littlefinger suffered nothing until his own death as far as I can tell (not counting the loss of his brothel)... Bran suffered from the moment he got shoved out that window, and went on suffering to gain a power Littlefinger was utterly unworthy of... And for all of Littlefinger's talk of "conceiving all possible scenarios" he never conceived someone could actually do that and more... which undid him.
Pride, overconfidence, arrogance, and greed can make idiots of us all, and Littlefinger had all of the above in excess. He'd gambled and won over and over again throughout the series, but his winning streak wouldn't last forever. This is the episode where, at long last, he thought he had a winning hand, overplayed it, and realized all too late that he was up against better players who, against all odds, had a much stronger hand than his.
It didn't make him an idiot, the game was not fair to begin with, how are you supposed to out-smart an omniscient being? Besides that, how could he "knows" or even imagine someone can see everything? You just wouldn't believe it that easily. Remember we the audience knows things the characters don't.
Hate to point it out - not that I think anyone is right or wrong, I have no idea what's going to happen - but even if Little Finger had sensed what was happening and paid a Faceless Man to die in his stead.... that would still be Sansa killing a Braavosi in Winterfell, which the Titan would still represent. In fact, if we're going with the Titan being the giant referred to, I would probably say a Faceless Man would be described as "savage giant" even more than Baelish would. Both can be, I'm just saying, an assassin is more literally savage than Baelish's figurative savagery. Savagery is blunt and unsophisticated. Dothraki are literal savages. The Hills tribes are literally savages. Baelish is Machievellian. Even though his machinations results in death and destruction, it's indirect and sophisticated. That's not literal savagery. But the Faceless Men are. So I'm not sure the point about Baelish's sigil means what we think it means. Or at the very least, it doesn't, on its own, contradict the Faceless Man idea. And it could be intentional misdirection. Or it could be correct. We'll all find out soon enough. Just a counterpoint.
Do people not realize that Arya is also a faceless man? If the person she killed was just a faceless man disguised as Baelish, she would know. Certainly she'd be like, "This isn't right" when she cuts off his face.
How would she know before she killed him that he would or wouldn’t be a Faceless Man? It’s not the same as when she was confronted by Nymeria who would know whether she was a Faceless Man or not.
I liked your commentary of the events, however I think you are making it way more complicated then it has to be. I think if you watch Ep 7 when Sansa and Littlefinger have the conversatikon about playing the game .... that is actually when Sansa realizes what he's doing. Watch her reaction when he starts presenting senarios to her about Aria. The conclusion was that Aria would become Lady of Winterfell. That was the give away .... that was when the bells went off for Sansa IMO. Everyone knows Aria had NO INTEREST in becoming a lady or anything like that. She had NEVER wanted it .. or as Aria would say a few times in the show ... "That's not me". She has made comments like this throughout the show. She said this to her dire wolf when she asked the wolf to come with her ... and then she said, "But that's not you" or "That's not who you are" .. but the point is the same. I believe during this game Finger played with Sansa, the ultimate conclusion simply didn't work. She knew Aria wasn't interested in what seemed to lead to ultimately becoming the Lady ... I think it was at this point, Sansa started to play the game with respect to LittleFinger .. it was at this point she saw his plan ..for sowing distrust between her and her sister, but it was also what opened her eyes to how he had been manipulating everyone in the same way ... pitting people against one another.
The thing that bothered me most about this storyline is that Sansa needed Bran to figure it out. Sansa heard her Aunt Lysa spill most of the details about how littlefinger had plotted all of this... so she already knew
A faceless man wouldn't have been so convincing in claiming they loved Sansa and her mother, and knowing all the details. And would their ruse remain undiscovered after death? No, I don't think so. Baelish's shock and reaction seemed genuine to me. It was him. Bran's arrival took away his control.

That gives a bit of credence to the idea that it IS possible :)...................but I think based on what we are shown and how long is left that LF's fate is as it appears. Bran's CCTV destroyed his edge and he'd been scrambling a bit for a couple of seasons before that anyway. From the time he left King's Landing maybe. What do you think the mechanics are when a faceless man dies wearing a face? I'm not sure whether the face (and deception) remains in place after death because they just seem to slide on and off on the show. If it's magic then does the death of the faceless man break the spell? I never read the books that far.
I don't know if I am the only one who realises it but in both the books and the show, it is quite obvious that the Faceless men are ONLY able to wear the faces of people who ARE already dead. They 'harvest' the face of dead people ONLY after they are dead. Nowhere in the books or show did a Faceless person ever appear with the face of someone who was still alive. Typical example is how in both the books and show, Arya wore the face of a total stranger in order to kill Frey. Just before she killed him, while pouring wine for him, the old man said he'd never seen her before and asked whom she belonged to. One would've thought she'd have worn the face of someone he knew as that would have made her chances easier because she'd have had him trusting her the more but she did not and it was because she could not. Fast forward to how she then used his face after she killed him and then executed her plan to poison the rest. I feel she could have done it all at once by using a face like the Kingslayer's with the idea of a visit on his way somewhere and still gotten them to drink poisoned wine or something. In summary, she had to use a random face to get to Frey. Kill him first and then obtain his face and that is why Little Finger could NOT have paid a Faceless man to wear his face for him. It is just not possible. Also, in the books where they give more detail about the Faceless men, they had one job; to kill and that's that.
I thought Sansa was already showing her strength against Littlefinger when she cut him off mid-sentence much sooner and said something like it's just assumed it would be something "clever" The girls had also already pledged that they wouldn't let anyone get between them. The "theory" that the girl is a faceless man *IS* really stupid. When I first heard of it I knew it was really idiotic... The faceless men get paid to kill others, not to go on suicide missions.
The most important thing for a faceless man is to serve. It has been established in previous seasons. Arya gave him his own name. ;-) The only stupid thing is how LF got himself killed by a not very smart girl. He knew Sansa learned how to manipulate convicingly and he knew she did not trust him after he sold her to Boltons. Sansa did not even pretend to like him. It would be stupid to tell her what he really wanted. Imo he wanted to destroy all great houses and become an emperor so telling Sansa he wanted the iron throne would be a lie. It makes sense he would plotted like that cause he had no more things to do at Winterfell and needed to move back to south to make another plans. It only makes more sense for him to be considered dead when the game is almost over.
Littlefinger's actions made no sense and were out of keeping with his character all of Season 7. Let's ask what the simplest answers for are - that he's alive through some elaborate theory, or that it was just bad writing. It was bad writing. He's dead.

In the very beginning of GOT episode 1, Jamie and Cercei are seen looking at John Arryns body and talking about "if he had told anyone what he saw (jamie and cercei sleeping together) then their heads would both be on spikes by now." So I assumed it was the lannisters who really did kill John arryn? How can little finger have killed john arryn....if Jamie admitted to killing him?

His death was way too anti climactic. Kind of like how Loki died to Thanos. Theyre both basically gods of mischief, why would they have such dumb and avoidable deaths? Both have to be alive, theyre too smart to die like that.
Tony If GRRM has written it, I’d say definitely. But it’s clear they didn’t know how to write LF, didn’t have anything for him to do, and we’re rushing to wrap up subplots as quickly as possible to get to the end game.
After watching a few times, I tend to believe it was a trap for Littlefinger. I think all three Stark children knew what Brandon knew when he knew it. Since Brandon’s visions came in fragments, they needed time to put all the pieces together before passing the sentence. They knew he was dangerous, so they played along knowing his tendencies. Arya’s.training with the faceless would have prepared her to spy on Littlefinger much more subtly, but she wasn’t to sell him on the discord he thinks he’s sewing. Sansa played her role to keep Littlefinger spinning while they built the case against him so they could get rid of him yet keep the nights of the vale in the fold. The way it played out felt way too elegant to be good fortune.
yes it was a trap for Littlefinger. But in no way he would have stayed in Winterfell to play pointless games with Arya and Sansa and loose his head because of that. He's always proven that he's more clever than that. He didn't even argue his case by using his cunning talent turning around the truth the way he needs to. fucking stupid.
As at least one commenter has remarked, since Arya has been trained as a Faceless Man, there’s a good chance that she could have recognized the presence of the disguise, if the person before her were not actually Baelish, but instead one of her fellow FMs, wearing another’s face. (And, by the way, if Baelish were still •alive•, whose face would a FM wear to impersonate him?) Another factor that makes the Baelish-is-Alive hypothesis implausible is the close scrutiny Bran/3ER has evidently been subjecting Baelish’s past acts and interactions to. Bran is not omniscient, and he can miss things if he doesn’t know to look for them (e.g., Lyanna Stark’s wedding to Crown Prince Rhaegar Targaryen), but he surely has been paying especially close attention to Baelish’s recent maneuverings at Winterfell, in his retrocognitive trances. It seems unlikely that he would have totally missed a switch whereby someone started impersonating Baelish.

Completely wrong. 1. No one knew Little Finger better than Sansa in entire got. After Boltons event she didn't trust LF , that's true 100 percent. She fears LF even after Snow's return, cause John was like his father, and obviously not smarter than LF. She must be waiting for moments. Actually she became smarter then. 2. When she revealed Arya properly, then she and Arya claverly planned, Arya indicates with the dagger, Sansa's eyes filled with tears with joy not in fear ( conflicts to many viewers). Now Sansa dare to plot a trap to eliminate LF. Their conversation was bluffing, they both knew LF had ears, spy,and how much dangerous is Bellish and how much power he had got( vale). 3. Arya enters , door closed, all northern lords are gathered,John isn't there .... Arya" Are u sure u want to do this?" This conversation confirmed that they trapped LF, the scenes before that misguided many viewers just like LF. " You told our mother this dagger....belongs to you." another statement that confirmed my theory. How Arya came to know that d dagger belongs to PB????? 4. Arya's another statement after reunion with John " She's the smartest person I ever mate". 5. Again watch the screenplays, Sansa trust LF and asked about Arya and then want to charge against her and suddenly changed her mind.. these is nonsense.
Anyone else think that the Night King will go South before he takes Winterfell? I know he probably has a decent army, but King's Landing is the Holy Grail for the Night King. The Night King could get an unstoppable army just from the rats of King's Landing. Imagine how hard it would be to defeat him if he has 1 million Wights. It's ripe for the taking too, the only worry is the cashes of wildfire, but I think the Night King could take the city with 50 Wights and Viserion easily so there is no risk in attacking King's Landing and all the settlements along the way. Also the Night King could fly to King's Landing quickly. There is risk attacking Winterfell because that's where all the Dragonglass and good guys with Dragons are. It makes sense for the Night King to add to his forces as much as he could before attacking Winterfell because once the Night King's army passes Winterfell, Winterfell won't receive any more reinforcements, aside from a stray Main character that might show up. I also think that the Night King's army bypassing Winterfell, could be a potential trap to lure Jon Snow and Danerys to the open battlefield where the numerical superiority of the Wights could be fully utilized.
OK In the last episode I think the girls are doing exactly what Arya said Lying so well that everybody thinks you're telling the truth esp LF This is evident to me on two occasions..When Arya said that Sansa was too busy knitting to be aware of what was going on in the Yard and when Arya said she often wanted to know how it would be like to wear pretty clothes and have Pretty hair etc Well Sansa never knitted - she was a seamstress and Arya knew the difference and also Arya wanted to know what it would be like to be a Lady Since when????NEVER It's not her remember Sansa and Arya knew LF betrayed their family They had first hand knowledge Remember Arya was Lannister's cupbearer and LF came in betraying her family .They just needed Bran to flesh out the story and get the facts straight

I think he is alive. Because G R R Martin believes in serving surprises and would be the most shocking moment of season 8. Moreover I am much satisfied by the theory that he false his death and put another person on his place. A person said in the comments section that a faceless man can only use a face that he had killed or been killed by his servents, but we all know that being faceless is more than putting a skin. It is a black magic or something. We have also saw in the past episodes, during Arya's training, when she continuously pulling faces from a dead body and at last she saw her own face, even when she is alive. This theory may be wrong but we know that he is such an intelligent character that should have to be careful when he came to know that bran knows the past " chaos is a ladder" incident. Why he remains in winterfell after all this. The show is known for the surprises and will be the biggest surprise when fans came to know that littlefinger is still alive. 😙😙😙😙😙😙😗😗😗
When Arya first got the iron coin from Jaqen, he said to give it to any man from Braavos. Surely this includes Petyr? Maybe he is not completely unknowing of the supernatural.
They way they killed Littlefinger was so lazy and dumb. I mean how does Brans "visions" mean anything in a court of law? And even if it did, why wouldn't Littlefinger at least call for a trial by combat? Everything about his death just seemed so forced and lazy. Littlefinger was cheated

Yes She was so swift just like Greyworm, ( Episode 9 Battle of the Bastards) she so fast, when she cut his throat.. She made it look so easy...that was soooo sweet! Why would Littlefinger stay in the North when nobody likes him and he already knew nobody there trusted him? Sansa didn't trust or like Littlefinger after what happened with Ramsay? Likewise, Arya and Sansa were clearly never going to fight. His entire plan devolves from moving people around like chess pieces to hoping that an entire family of now hardcore survivors will turn on her because Littlefinger 'conveniently' keeps acting as a courier and go between for them. Also, again, no actual evidence he did anything, he didn't ask for a trial by combat, he didn't try to argue as now, an effective highlord, what his rights were and he threw himself on the mercy of a woman who a season ago said he was a snake and was going to use him until he had no more use. This is idiotic. Especially when you look at his plans to start the war and his method to kill Joffery.
Let’s not forget that the last season will be all about war. No time for conspiracies and scheming. So, the very character of Baelish doesn’t even belong in that mix. In a sick and twisted way the character of Baelish may have served to make Sansa the strong queen, or queen of a house whatever, she is destined to be! Since the Starks only have one lady now. He helped her become a fierce wolf. This is kinda reinforced in the seasons finale when she tells Arya ‘ I guess he really did love me in his sick twisted way ‘ ( inaccurate quote I know ). But yeah it’s very common to see characters in books live and die and all they achieve is effectively making another character stronger, regardless of the means it was done. Whether intentional or not. Depends on the grand scheme of the story it’s vision and the writer himself. And seeing how the show is clearly influenced by a lot of different real life figures/ events, as well as other books and movies .. not very crazy to think the ONE character ALL viewers wanted Away from Sansa from season1 till now is the same character that essentially made her this complete strong lady in an oddly satisfying way.
I always loved little finger. He was of course a true piece of shit as far as being a good person goes....but he played the game of thrones better than anyone. While others were enjoying moments of peace and prosperity during the hardships across the series he was never out of the “always plotting” state of mind. He was constantly plotting while others only plotted when necessary.
