I met Brian Thompson, Shao Khan, at Pensacon a couple years ago. Dude was the most polite, soft spoken and chill guy lol. He was very knowledgeable about his craft, I got to talking about MK:A and he was just rattling off names of cinematographers, talking about different locations they shot and talking about his experience with the actors. Honestly the kinda guy to down some beers and just talk with about shit. Got his signature on a Shao Khan pic of course.
I thought the final fight with Khan was pretty good. Just wish the other rest of the movie was worth seeing. It's not. It's bad. Bad script, bad acting, Kang was the only bright spot. @@richardbrown2334
My friend who we forced to watched this movie admitted that it started to get hype when the song kicked in but then it killed it, but I like your explanation.
Haha jsut wrote comment "Igor Zimin Igor Zimin 0 seconds ago Did anyone else felt some kind of uplift in mood and goosbumbs on back when music started playing at 2:23 ? :DDDDD so cringe, just like in childhood" literally went reading comments, people write the same things :D
The movie was ridiculous, granted, but 12 years-old me thought Liu Kang was the most badass guy ever. And I still do. Probably the greatest depiction of a video game character, still unsurpassed.
In the original timeline (which this movie was based on) Liu Kang was the main hero of Mortal Kombat. MK4 came out the same year as this movie and the canon ending is Liu Kang beating Shinnok and becoming a 4-time MK Champion. Now with this stupid current timeline, he's a vengeful jobber who fights for the Netherealm just because he accidentally got killed by Raiden. He was only a 2-time champion now before he died and before all that Cage family BS. Look at how weak they made him in that garbage 2021 movie.
Same here!! Exactly 20 years ago(second semester 7th grade) when I started getting into Mortal Kombat snes games And eventually THIS movie. (After playing with my cousins on the SNES on a trip to Mexico for Christmas 2001) I thought this movie was THE SHIT! Now I realize, it's SHIT!! Lol. I started practicing the moves from the movie. Basic roundhouse kick, jump kick, etc......lol. Started becoming obsessed with martial arts. Wanted to see more martial arts movies. I also came across a website that listed martial artists. Ranking them, 1 being the best and so on.... Number 1 of course was BRUCE LEE. Who I had never heard of before (Early 2002) Looked him up......he reminded me of Fei Long from Street Fighter!! Eventually learning that the character was a tribute to the martial arts legend Was shocked to see that he was around in the 70s( when he finally got where he wanted to get....after learned a little more about his life. His struggles in Hollywood, etc....) And even more shocked /surprised To see on IMDB ....DATE OF DEATH!!!! "How is it that died so young???!!!" I just thought to myself. Come 2 weeks before 8th grade, I was watching Jaws ....in a Spanish channel . During commercials: "Next week, we have a special presentation featuring martial arts legend BRUCE LEE, John Saxon, Jim Kelly, Kien Shih......ENTER THE DRAGON" Come the day it was aired, within 30 seconds....I was captivated!! The opening shot of the monastery, the colorful temple, the music, and of course, Bruce Lee's screen presence!!! THIS....was the of martial arts movie I wanted to see!!!!!......... when I became obsessed with martial arts , thanks to MKA. I had gotten a blank videocassette and recorded it off the TV. Made it a habit for about 2 months to watch it as soon as I got home from school during 8th grade. Watching/ Listening to it while I did my homework! Good times, 2002
Yeah, he was a great Liu. Looked like him, did a great job at the fight scenes (the fight against Shang Tsung in the first one was great, excellent choreography), and acted quite well. When he freed his brother’s soul or when he first saw Raiden and faced him at the temple, his acting was excellent imo. Not Oscar worthy, but very good, specially for a movie of this kind. A great casting choice, he even acts fairly good in this horrendous (but strangely, very likable) film.
this movie is notorious for having cgi that looked like bullshit in an era when CGI that hasn't aged well. that speaks volumes to how shit this movie was lol not cgi related but i still can't get over how they reused the shot of Rain getting hit into the fire pit for Liu Kang kicking baraka off the platform. Just the funniest shit ever
Mr Mavvy oh the “it’s so bad, it’s good” card. Ya, I can respect that opinion when it comes to this movie. I was thought you were thinking this movie is unironically good. I feel the same way about Dimitri Vegas’ Sub-Zero in MK11. So bad, it’s good.
I'm such an MK fan that I still think this is great. I can understand from an objective point of view that the graphics are terrible etc but as soon as you hear that 90s MK music, it doesn't matter!!!
It's more than just the graphics. It's the plot, the script, and the fight scenes. And what do you mean it doesn't matter. Good music has to go with a good movie. This however, is not a good movie. The only thing good about this is the theme song. But like I said: The plot, script, And fight scenes are trash. You got the nerve to say "For the time graphics were next level." Indiana Jones, and Terminator movies we're better than this.
Even though this movie was considered bad, I still watch it for the nostalgia. Especially love the Elder Gods showing up, humbling Shinnok and their declarations always sends a shiver down my spine.
@@axelnilsson5124It's the same place but Shao Kahn had his generals and a whole squad of ninjas with him. There were only 5 good guys against a whole army and technically Raiden being a god would have been punished since he's a god and can't compete without giving up his powers. It's the same place as the beginning of the movie only difference is it's night instead of day.
It really is. As terrible as it is, it at least sticks to the MK story and has all the characters we know. When I was watching the hbo MK movie, I spent the entire time trying to figure out who tf Cole is.
That animal fight scene was absolutely mind blowing. I wonder how they made it look so realistic. Do you think was 2 puppets like off star wars or cgi so cutting edge it was 30 years a head of it times. Either way, mind blown
Love how most of Liu's moves are actually inflicting minor damage to himself in this fight. True its worth it as Kahn is taking tons more damage but still interesting
# 0001 To be fair, with all the crap Liu Kang went through in all of his fights since the first movie, I doubt any of his "self minor damaging" moves are damaging him at all.
When I was a kid and watched this 100 times I got hype everytime at this part....it’s jus something about that music....by far one of the top songs of the century
Whats worse is they can & do do better with visual effects in the tv shows. But this was a rushed job due to the guy rushed to fulfill a contracted obligation for at least two movies & a director/producer not being very experienced with multiple location shooting. At least two of the core actors either too busy with other projects or not liking the script for their character. They seemed to have cut & paste alot of stuff focused to much on the action sequences.
So freaking true as even watching it on cable T.V. it look just like what you said it was on your comment. As it look so dull and boring and low budget movie it should have went to home video instead of the big screen.
And they BOTH came out in 1997. Clooney's stunt double was Chris Cassamasa from the first MK film and later MK: Conquest. That was the reason he didn't reprise his role in Annihilation.
I remember watching this movie as a kid and it was like Endgame for me. Looking back on it now, it's so hard not to laugh 😆 it has the best line though "Too bad YOU will die."
Lol idc what anyone says I loved this shit when I was a kid. Yes I know it’s a shitty movie but it’ll always hold a special place with me. I thought it was so cool 😭😭😭
Even if decades has passed since the movie came out, I love the action implemented in it, definitely in one of my top 5 movies so bad, so good list. The way the elder gods yelled out Mortal Kombat line as the music played in sync. 🔥🔥🔥🔥💯💯💯💯💯.
I loved this when I was younger, I don’t care it that it was a bad film, I’ll still watch it again to this day. I like at around 1:35 after Liu Kang makes Shao Khan realize that he can actually be killed because of his wound, that “oh shit” face he makes before he cries to his elder god father lol love it
I love the Mortal Kombat Movies, if the new one doesnt have Music to Match the Energy of the 90s then I dont wanna watch it. The music holds up even to this day.
