[LIVE] 12 Shinies in FireRed/LeafGreen's Safari Zone for Safari Week 2020

Safari Week 2020 was super fun. It was a mixed bag overall. In total I did 108,650 random encounters, finding 12 shinies overall meaning I had an average of 9,054. The first part of the week seemed like I was going to have the mother of all Safari Weeks but two bad droughts pushed my average up (and motivation down if I'm honest). Still, to find 12 shinies in 1 week is pretty insane so I'm very happy with my haul. I'm gutted about that Venomoth but I will be back here in the future to try and see the elusive Shiny Chansey in 3rd Gen!
Safari Week is an annual event hosted by AbsolBlogsPokemon in which shiny hunters pit their sanity against the cruel mistress that is RNG. If you'd like to participate, be sure to follow Matt on Twitter; / theabsol Safari Week is usually hosted during early June so look out for that in the future!

Watching this was a fantastic way to spend 40 minutes and 13 seconds!! Great haul, Steve. That latter half of the week was BRUTAL, though! -Your Gamecube setup looks soooo good. Some of the crispest 3rd gen capture I've seen! -I can't believe those Paras keep fleeing from you. I'm glad you finally caught one, but it seems to be at the expense of a trip to Paris!! -That Venomoth is an absolute beaut, definitely the highlight for sure!! Seems you weren't exempt from this Safari Week's curse of the 3-shake fake, either. -Going to massive numbers for a fail always sucks!!! 2/3 of my 20k+ safari phases have been failures as well. -Major congrats on the normal Exeggcute at 27:30

That Venomoth was a real beauty. My heart stopped on that third shake, but it hurt more with the Nidorina and then the Exeggcute, I could tell there was real anguish in your voice! Especially with Exeggcute where you said "I *really* want to catch this!" and it instantly fled.

Thank you, really appreciate that. I use Adobe Premiere. I used to use Sony Vegas until around 2 years ago and there has been a noticeable increase in quality in my videos from then I think. Premiere is just a better program and exports videos faster for sure.

Nice haul this year! Shame the Venomoth didn't want to stick around but congrats on the Paras reclaim and Adamant Rhyhorn in particular. Currently 1500 RE's deep into a Firered hunt in the Lost Cave myself. I'll be content with anything but I really want Haunter or Murkrow. (Was hunting Dewgong a while back but since it was a repel trick hunt + hunting on a single copy it was taking super long to get encounters, hopefully a more relaxed hunt will give some better results) Good luck on your future hunts!

Even though it's painful, I do love shiny encounters in the Safai Zone. It's that extra bit of risk that makes it really exciting. This was probably 10 years ago now, but I was roaming the Safari Zone in one of my Fire Red files and within a couple hours of eachother I encountered a shiny Nidorina and a shiny Exeggcute. Neither of them wanted to stick around and let me catch them, but it makes for a good story!

Seeing Sonikks here reminds me of how I wanted to capture Pokemon in the Safari Zone...After a bit i encountered a Shiny Chansey. I didn't know what a shiny was and thought the green looking Chansey was a color glitch...so i let it go. Not to far off a Shiny Ryhorn appears thus making me think the glitch persisted in the cartridge. Years later I realized my grave error...oh well, nice shinies my man!

I am indeed sir. I was still trying to get used to it as much as possible throughout the week and eventually got it right on the final day (typical). The scale is set to Area by default which I don't care for nor do you I believe. Bilinear wouldn't look right but eventually I got there. Got it right for the future anyway.

I’ve been hoping to find a shiny since i was a kid. I’ve only once caught a shiny magikarp.. but since everybody has a red gyarados it didn’t count for me. Do you just walk around the safari zone or is there a technique? If you run out of steps does it restart the random encounter count?

Congrats on all the shinies. I’m intrigued, were all of those 108650 encounters quad hunted? Over 100k encounters for not consistently quad hunting would mean a mad amount of hours a day hunting surely 😮

I’m a novice when it comes to this stuff and though I checked out that link it was highly complicated to me... lol though I am using all authentic hardware is there something I need to purchase, configure or download to achieve this quality of game play straight from my GameCube to my Tv monitor ?

I use authentic hardware too. You need a way to get Homebrew on your Gamecube (Swiss). Take some time to read through all of that and you'll replace the awful Gameboy Player software. I recommend joining the Discord for help if you need it too. Look at my Gen 2 Tauros video recently for Gameboy Interface software look as well as my Roaming Entei in Crystal.

Funny story when i was little i found a shiny Rhyhorn. I said "this rhyhorn looks odd" i ran from the fight and looked at rhyhorn in the pokedex and said "went that was weird".
