Hey Luke I'll give you a few pointers that was given to me when I start to chase the ghost now I can find them fairly easy. Learn your river travel around using your sound mark out rock bars, snags, trees fast moving water and bait if you have bait the big fish are normally not far behind. If you have side scan on your sounder set it up use it mark out different structures you'll start finding fish. I found crusing around at low time and looking at banks and deeper pockets. Good luck love the vids mate hope this helps

In a highly pressured area never overlook fishing man made structures , especially at night These spots tend to get overlooked by the more experienced fishermen in favour of local creeks Spots like rock walls and jetty’s fished at night with live bait will produce quality Barra
Hi Luke love your videos your a real die hard fishing man you don't give up that's what I like about you look forward every Tuesday night for your oresome videos cheers Phil Vasssllo
Love your style of video man great edits, good content, love how you engage with your audience. I'm actually learning some much from you and others on how to make good quality fishing videos. Thanks, love ya work.
Your persistence and attitude are second to none. Your videos are really interesting to watch and the way it's shot, edited, and produced is a credit to yourself. Keep up the good 👍
Great to meet you today Luke at the Cairns show ( me and my girlfriend) We watch your videos and their awesome! My misses calls me the worst fisherman in Australia as I’m yet to catch a fish but I’ll keep watching your videos and I’ll keep trying 😂 lovely to meet your beautiful family and will keep up to date with your journey around Australia. Will definitely miss the cairns content but good luck on your next adventure!
I’ve found Bushman’s 40% DEET is most effective on sandflies. All the brands give some degree of protection but the 40% DEET seems to really knock em around. 👍
Hey Luke Not sure if you’ve tried this concoction but half baby oil half detol mix and spray can even add a bit of lavender oil to kill detol smell works great on midges I’m guessing you have plenty of baby oil 😅
Mate. Will suggest again that you set your drag correctly for the tackle setup and then fish. Leave it alone when fighting the fish. If it runs, it runs. This is why you are busting your line or pulling hooks so often. Set it correctly and leave it. You have no way of knowing how much drag is ‘too much’ when you are hooked up and messing with the drag. Good luck mate!
Great video bro. Just remember to clear any scales on the hook end after you hook the live bait. 9/10 the barra will burst out of the water once it hits your line. Be ready! Hope you catch your first barra soon. 🎣 😁
When you bring the cast net in, give it a few jerks and bring it in slower to close the circle, because I’ve notice you bring it back in way to quick at times and the circle doesn’t close and the fish get out easier
Your storytelling, editing and design of your videos is really appreciated 🤟. I know the feeling of losing a fish and catching a catfish in Cairns!.. good catch will come again soon!!
Love your content bro this channel and your family one so awesome 🙂 you have inspired me to get out and explore and most of all just have fun 🤘 I got some rods and am learning everything and cannot wait to catch some fish 🙂
Lol "is this it? Ah its a catfish." I know your pain haha I have a special short metal bat in my tinny that i use to send them back swimming upside down
Good on you Luke, watched your whiting catch n cook,,try BBQ charcoal and cook fish in unsalted butter, salt burns butter quicker ,nice whiting catch good one
@@lukefalzon good on you thanks am well , wasn't picking on you, but try cooking fish in the unsalted butter it's much nicer than oil for flavour of fish, try put fillets in a bag with the Deb instant mash potato, pad it on through the bag ,then put in the fridge for few hours to set ,then fry in butter,it's only batter mix anyway ,am butcher by trade, mate told me this trick sounds shit ,but is very good , thanks for sharing your adventures ,,,sand fly bites, soak chopped up lemon s in vinegar half n half in fridge for a week , strain it into spray bottle , will stop the itch after bites n is cheap
Hey Luke just acouple things when your going for live bait and barra the incoming tide is alot better instead of the out going tide. And when it comes to keeping your bait alive for longer it’s not just the fish swallowing the scales but the more water in the bucket means the water will Need to be oxygenated more so just have enough water in the bucket to cover the fish.
All the grind for the barra is going to make it worth it in the end. Also, when in the estuaries and creeks, start fishing the structures. The barra and jacks live under there and attack the bait. Also, where there is bait, there is usually something bigger eating the bait. How has it been being a new Dad the 2nd time over mate? How's Alex, she looked radiant after giving birth.
Fark man, that sucks, catfish really had us all fooled that you had finally done it. I will happen one day I'm telling you man. I haven't met anyone who pereserveres as hard as you and I am sure as anything you will eventually get one. Just letting you know Luke, when your line comes back curly and twisted like that it means the hook has pulled, if you bust off it is usually a clean cut and your line should come back straight. A snell knot usually holds up well, have seen you release a few lures before so I reckon it might be a problem with your lure. The head shakes on that fish at the end certainly resembled a Barramundi's head shakes, due to the structure of the mouth it usually brings the rod down in that manner. Great video, certainly was entertaining. It sucks losing a fish regardless of what it is, I'm confident with perseverance and a bit of research and analysation of the creek systems (that can be done via google earth) you will get one sooner or later.
@@lukefalzon Hahah all good mate, Been getting out 'n about recently for a few missions. Been getting trout, redfin, Salmon. I always find the best thing to do before I go is utilise google earth to look at various spots. As the old saying goes Lukey, do the miles, get the smiles. Good luck mate and look forward to the next banger.
You're videos are awesome, I'm on the same grind to try catch barra. Nothing ever seems to come together, but just have to keep trying. A really good spot for live bait is near the airport on high tide. Drive out to the airport and it's on the right just before you enter. Worked for me when I was visiting Cairns earlier this year. P.s You should do a land based fishing mission out at those flood gate/overflow things in Chinaman Creek out on the flats. Be careful of crocks there.
go abit out of the inlet and stay on the right side then there should be a creek on your right, follow it up till you see a flood gate, heaps of bait fish and thats where i caught my barra, GOOD LUCK!
I think you are getting a lot of bites on the live bait, just move the hook further back on the fishes back and I can assure you will get more fish on like that, love when you post just a shame you always lose the big one😅
Hey mate if your using small livies set your drag firm .. an when your rod takes off get a wind on in the rod holder .. you need to get that hook set not give it a chance to spit it
Go too bcf and get a pryml bait bucket so you can keep your livies in the water, keeps clean water for them too breath and let’s scales and other debris get out. They are $35 brother
Great video Luke. The inlet is hit or miss sometimes for live bait, and the fishing can be hard too, I’ve caught plenty of Queenies, grunter, small mouth nanagai and GT there, but never a barra. I hope you keep pressing on and get one
love the vids man keep em up, Im thinking of doing a trip up there soon just got my Ps might make the journy from melbourne see If I can catch some good barra. also dont give up that easy man gotta push threw those ones that get yah.
5:00 I think that hook is a bit too big for that size of mullet and it's too far up. You're allowed 3 lines maximum so you can flick a lure while you have 2 livies on.
Yes brother ❤it kind of surprise’s me to know you still haven’t got one. But far out they don’t call it catching hey, fishing it is! Onya dude go hard.!!! ( fyi this comment was sent at 0:39 )
@@lukefalzon Tasmania brother! Was up fnq not too long ago can’t wait to get back up. Get down here one day bro I’ll take you tuna fishing & shit out the Hippolyte rock area. Tuna, swords, makos, stripeys, blue eye etc!
Rig your line up so the sinker sits further up the line so that way it give you bait a bit more freedom to swim around of the bottom but when you have your sicker at the hook the bait just sit at the bottom and doesn’t go anywhere and use a 8/0 octopus hook with size 3 or 2 sinker
hey falzon need to get bait at basicly the low tide, then go find some mangroves or snags and fish the incoming tide in a creek at some snag with live mullet. Go on the bigger tides to
Hey brother, you need to go check out the Daintree river, fishes really good for Barra, jacks and finger mark when using live bait…. I can give you some marks just say the word bro
I think you need to use a better net. I forgot the name but it's the pulls the bottom weight to the top, trapping the fish better. For your net, i suggest using it not at deep water and let it hit the bottom. Sorry for my bad English.
